Gyokko got bodied so hard he skipped his backstory. But we do get it in extra material. His human name was Managi and he lived in a fishing village. His parents drowned in an accident, and when Managi saw their probably bloated corpses, he thought they were beautiful. He also had a habit of killing and skinning small animals to use them for artwork. When a village kid called him weird, he responded by straight up killing the kid and stuffing the body in a pot. When the parents found out he was almost lycnhed and left for dead. Then muzan stumbled upon him...
Yeah Gyokko is definitely one of the more evil and unsympathetic Demons we’ve met so far, Hantengu included and he’s almost more screwed up than him.

His story is what confuses the hell out of me about Upper Moon rankings. Muzan says that they are ranked based on the amount of humanity that is left. There is no way Gyokko has more humanity than Kokushibo and Akaza right (Douma could be debatable)? Technically Gyokko being no.1 would make sense but thank god he isn't.
The gap between 6,5,4 of the upper moons is decently big. But the gap between them and 3,2 and 1 is insanely big.

Muichiro wiped the floor with Upper 5 so badly he almost seemed like a joke. It looked so easy you almost forget that almost every human in this universe except for a Hashira would be the joke in any other situation, Gyokko just got the short end of the stick this time.
My brother thought the same thing but is was with all the 12 kizuki especially the lower moons? He said all the 12 kizuki so far have been either to weak for their rank or just plain fodder (referring to the lower moons aside from lower 1 and 5)
@@Six-kz9gl I hope he didnt say upper 4 was fodder, because that guy is a menace. If the MCs werent scripted to win theres no way anyone anywhere is figuring out all the steps to killing this guy with finality while avoiding all his death-clones snd various gambits
@@zeroescape he mostly just said the lower moons were fodder but he did have some complaints that no hashira other than the rengoku has died to a upper moon yet (he hasent seen the manga)
The whole point for Gyokko was to distract Muichiro. Else, Hantengu wouldve been rolled by the squad with 2 hashira. That makes Muichiro the only hashira in Taisho era that single handedly beheaded an uppermoon

11:10 If you go back and watch the fight between Gyutaro and Tengen, Right before he dies, he says "I have to unleash the circular scythes" It was an attack he was prepping before he got his head cut off, thats why his body "exploded" its not a feature of the upper six.
I love that tokito just rolled and smoked the upper 5 like it was nothing and next episode we get to see mitsuri pop off too im so hyped

Even in death Rengoku finds ways to interfere from beyond the grave. Being an inspiration to his friends and his sword guard saving someone's life.
Tokito definitely won the roast battle
It was funny seeing Upper 5 get slain before when could get information on his back story, which I hear wasn't as tragic as who we've seen so far when compared to upper 6 and lower 5. If was also nice to see that Rengoku had an impact on the mist hashira as well before his time came to an end
When talking about how easily he killed an upper 5, they forget he should have suffocated in the water trap, if not for the help of a little boy saving him.
Once out he is going 100%, while G is still playing bc he already beat him once
Its true...ppl seem to forget this part TT Muichiro almost died quite a few times. The fight wasnt easy by any means, it lasted half the season 💀.

He's not as flashy as sound Hashira Tengu but Mist Hashira Muichiro did an amazing job on killing this demon and he also got his memories back and thanks to kid he was able to free himself from the water prison and kill him. He's one of the strongest Hashiras out there and I hope in the next season we get to see others Hashiras.
This episode really starts to show the hierarchy when it comes to the Hashira. While Rengoku and Tengen put up formidable fights against their opponents, they still struggled immensely and were incapable of awakening the mark and overwhelming their opponent unlike Tokito who managed to pull off both these feats.
You need a sun breather to unlock their mark first so that’s why rengoku couldnt. Akaza stated that rengoku was close to having the ultimate technique, transparent world, he just needed his mark to manifest.
That’s not true. No where in the manga did it say a sunbreather needed to unlock their mark first

12:39 kenny you also have to remember what muzan said in ep 1 of this season the only reason gyutaru was ranked as 6 was because his sister held him back (personally if it was just him id say hed rank as 4 in terms of strength)

you've probably seen this said before and it just hasnt caught up since you (understandably) record a bunch of episodes ahead of time, but the breathing forms the demon slayers use dont have actual elemental effects appear in the world, but amplify the body in a way that is fitting of that style. That's why any time someone does refer to something only a specific breathing style could do they always say it's *like* (fill in the blank). It's *like* the area is covered in mist, Tanjiro moving *like* water, etc. The closest was probably Zenitsu, since he moved so fast against one of the spider demons that Tanjiro actually heard thunder, but everywhere else they still say *like* lightning. Also there's a pretty funny video (~10seconds) about how demon slayers look since you can't see the breathing styles.

Gyokko's easily one of the most deplorable characters in this series, even among the demons, so seeing him get DESTROYED this episode in such a (deservedly) disrespectful manner was very satisfying. Like, we didn't even get his backstory; that's how much he was disrespected. 😅
Edit: Side note: Brent Mukai, Gyokko's English VA, had already been great as the character this season, but he REALLY goes off this episode. Once Gyokko's art was insulted, he got PIIIIIISSED.

Fun fact muichiro is stronger way stronger then tengen and he has mark also that's why gyokko got defeated that ease if there is muichiro in entertainment district the legendary fight of tengen vs gyutaro is not there muichiro 7th form is enough for daki and gyutaro
Yeah, the mark makes a HUGE difference in one's ability.
If Rengoku and Tengen had manifested there's, Rengoku might've lived, and Tengen might not have lost an eye and hand.

I think the thing not watching slice of life/romance/school themed anime is that you don't get basic knowledge like japanese names are written in characters that all can have multiple complete meanings, so with the mu in muichiro it could've meant different things both bad and good

Mist Breathing is entirely based around making yourself appear hazy and obscured so the enemy misses, so Muichiro is effectively the best dodging Hashira, although he doesn't dodge, he just makes the enemy miss and Gyokko lost because Muichiro was the worst match up for him since Muichiro is undoubtly the BEST DODGING HASHIRA, making Gyokko's Kekkijutsu kinda inefficient and don't forget that Hashira's insult to the Fifth Upper Moon made him extremely arrogant and thirsty for killing and made him want to kill him so much that he forgot that he was fighting Hashira with the mark and started to attack without thinking, also tokito was already dying before that little kid gave him air
Tokito sure is strong but that doesn't mean gyooko is weak

When season 3 came, everyone hyped Gyokko and downplayed Hantengu...wherein Gyokko was a disappointment...a letdown while Hantengu proved to be the MVP villian of Season 3

Muichiro certainly made the fight against Gyokko look easy, but it definitely wasn’t easy. Before he got the mark and new sword Gyokko had him poisoned and suffocating. Muichiro needed saving in the first half of the fight because he get out of the pot. Even with the mark it took an episode and a half to finish Gyokko off and Gyokko displayed powers that would’ve ended most other slayers. The moment the fight was over and the mark dropped Muichiro was cooked, it took everything he had to beat Gyokko however easy it looked.
Now imagine if Tengen got a mark🥺

This isn't really much of a spoiler, but the Top 3 of upper moons are in different planet compared to the other 3 upper moons. Like I think Akaza alone soloes Hantengu and Gyokko. The top 3 are actually very more powerful. So you guys have to be ready for some god-tier animation and fighting sequences when the time comes, some part of which I think is in next season.
In terms of raw strength gyutaro is stronger than gyokko but what made gyokko upper moon 5 is his instant kill moves that kills most demon slayer in one misslip. He just got missmatched being paired with tokito and got boddied hard. What use are the jaw dropping attacks if you cant hit the enemy

Top 6 ranking was not based on who is stronger but who has lost more humanity, muzan said this earlier this season, gyatoro would have been way stronger if it weren't for Daki.
No, the upper moons are separated by ranks to differentiate their power. Therefore, if one of them was not satisfied with their position, they had to defeat the other in a battle.
Gyutaro was the youngest upper moon of all, he possessed less Muzan blood and did not devour as many humans, so he was the weakest of all, although he was an incredible hand-to-hand combatant.
Gyutaro's humanity (i.e. his love for Daki) led him to make stupid decisions, such as letting his sister fight first or doing whatever she asked. But if he wanted, he could challenge others, something he never did since canonically his "development" only led him to reach rank 6, no more than that.
@@l0velessoul funny because Muzan literally says it in the story but I guess you know better. Also Douma became rank 2 without having to fight Akaza so they don't need to fight eachother to increase rank.
@@valentijnrozeveld3773 They do need to fight, it's said in the series, it's called a blood battle. Douma did fight and beat Akaza in battle for that rank. And like the other person said, Muzan only mentioned humanity in the sense of how Gyutaro lost because it got in his way and the way many of his demon subordinates are dying due to their humanity as well.
@@natalimoina He literally says: Do you know how the upper ranks are ranked? And I tried to look up a battle between Akaza and Douma and couldn't find anything. Ofcourse I recognize that defeating a higher rank in battle and absorbing him is also a way to increase your rank but I'm just going off on what is said in the show.

It's the only way to get a higher rank, that's explained in the Upper moon meeting. Pretty sure there's also more information about it in the fanbooks too.
