I didn't like Asymmetry at release. I listened to it once or twice but didn't get it, so I left it, lamenting the fact that the band that had produced Sound Awake had gone bad.
A few years later I decided to give it another chance. And damn. It hit me like a f****g train.
I now believe it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever created. Nothing changed except my perception. I wasn't ready for Asymmetry, but now I'm just glad I get to live in an era where works of art like this is created.
    Thanks Karnivool.

Same experience here. Really goes to show it’s worth revisiting an album, song or even a whole band you used to not like.

Ditto here. Though it didn't take me that long to get the vibe of Asymmetry, but it sure was a wild trip after the first two albums. And this was like 10 years ago.
Karnivool has been my favourite band for the better part of my adult life. The arrangements are just amazing. Insane dynamics and truly groundbreaking instrumentals, it's the most mindful music I've come across all these years.
And the vocals and lyrics are something else. It's basically poetry, it's not at all straightforward and can be interpreted a number of ways, and even after all these years I get immense joy from listening to their albums.
I still discover guitar parts I haven't been able to isolate because it all blends together so nicely. And lyrics wise my most recent discovery is that the first two albums mostly convey themes that fit the individual and his/her experiences and struggles, while Asymmetry to me paints a broader picture of societal themes that translate very well to what we see going on in the world today.
They've released these over 8 years, from 2005-2013, and I am not at all surprised they have a hard time following up with their fourth release, as they have produced more miracles in these few years than most acts could hope for in decades.
I was lucky enough to see them live in 2023, had to book a trip to London, but it was well worth it. When they drop the new release, I will be sure to catch up with them on their european tour!

I had this friend who died from pulmonary embolism (lungs filled with fire?). In the daytime we had her funeral (a cremation), a couple of hours later I went to see Karnivool live and they ended their set with this one. One of the most powerful music-experiences in my life.....

Musicwise - doubtlessly yes. But I don't like the camera. Seems like they don't know the song and are overchallenged by the various song parts. It's like "Oh, that drum piece was good - I've got to film the drummer!! ... oh, too late. Maybe the guitar? Oh, damn it - now I want to film the bass!" :D So they just hold onto Kenny because filming the singer is all you've got to do in modern days. But not in bands like Karnivool...

    • @luisfaraudo2953
      @luisfaraudo2953 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

lorkhan610 Totally agree with you, the camera work is not that great and pretty damn obvious, like you said; but the definition of the video itself is pretty good, and of course, it's never a bad thing to see this awesome musicians doing their thing from a "close range"..

Karnivool is pure magic. I challenge people to find me a band this diverse in their soundscapes and do all of them so l well
there’s plenty of bands out there that do a lot of soundscapes and they’re good at some and not good at others. These guys are just authentic and weird and none of it sounds contrived. It’s amazing.
I didn’t fall in love with their first album. I fell in love with their second album and then when the third one came out, I was just blown away. I just couldn’t get over how good it is. Couldn’t stop listening to it still. After falling in love with the second and third album I went back and listened to the first and understood it in a completely different light and I see how amazing it is as well but the path they took in their progression was just absolutely perfect for me
I think can imagine at the very least why they haven’t put out another album because it’s gotta be hard to write anything that sounds good. After writing all the content they’ve written absolutely beautiful. I do think they’ll come out with another album. I just hope that they stay as committed to their authenticity and their art. This is Life like find me another band that does all this And does it this well and then does it as well live. It’s unbelievable. I challenge anyone to literally tag me with another live performance of another band that does something as eclectic, diverse, dynamically speaking, and performed and executed on this level please I would love to hear it. The challenge isn’t one of fuck you it doesn’t exist. It’s please show me that I beg you. Sorry this was a ramble. Talk to text while I’m driving, but I just can’t plead and beg someone read this someone tag me someone find something this good

The music of Karnivool is like a musical Big Bang - a creation of the universe and, in equal measure, an end to the universe. It's profoundly deep both musically and lyrically - an emotional explosion that caresses the mind and soul. The sonic landscapes they craft feel like the genesis of something monumental, and yet, there's an undeniable sense of closure in every note. Karnivool's artistry is a journey that transcends the boundaries of mere sound; it's a cosmic experience that resonates with the very essence of existence.
I've found myself immersed in a world where each note is a celestial body, and every lyric is a constellation of profound thoughts. It's as if their music possesses the power to create and unravel the cosmos at will. Karnivool has become not just a band to me, but a cosmic force - an entity that defines the very fabric of my musical universe.

    I think there's a pulse
    But I don't remember feeling
    Anything close to this
    And I don't know if it's worthwhile
    But I hope so
'Cause I don't feel so well
No I don't feel so well
I've gotta keep a grip on this
But the rising tide could still
    Pull us underneath
And leave us to the ocean
    Either way
I'm starting to feel like something's wrong with this poison
'Cause in my veins it's burning
And I hope you hold a place for us
    Far enough away
From all the flames they like to tell us burn
And I hope you hold a way for us
But I don't really know you
    I don't really know you...
Why the hell did I seek the truth?
Of all I see in its reflection
But part of me regrets it
And I just wanted to see
    Now it's clear
    We're alone in this
It's your funeral, it's your dying day
    So make amends
For the end will leave us nothing
It's your funeral, it's your dying day
So make amends, one last stand
    Then leave with nothing!
    When I breathe again,
Will my lungs fill with fire?
When I breathe again, I hope it's ok
    Will I see again?
When the smoke clears, who will still remain?
When I see again, I hope it's ok...
Chemical fires will signal we're dead
Chemical fires will signal we're dead
Chemical fires will signal we're dead and gone
Chemical fires will signal we're dead and gone
    Chemical fires will signal we're
    Chemical fires will signal we're

I just found this and the alpha video and have been utterly obsessed with watching them. Quality is lightyears ahead of the moshcam vids of these guys live, and obviously Karnivool is incredible regardless

Australia and Chile should be closer as countries, diplomatically, economically. Southern Hemisphere for the win! Though Chile, you win in the Telescope category. And your mountains and fjords. Doing a big road trip from north to south of chile is definitely high on my bucketlist. Also, whenever i see footage of live shows in Chile, they are always insane! You guys are all crazy!
