The Go2 is impressive but it does not do everything the video shows (yet). Unitree has issued a disclaimer that some of the tricks the dog performs in the video are not or not yet possible.
The $1,600 price is for the BARE robot in China. Import duty and shipping to the US adds like another $1K to the price. And then it is the BARE robot. You do not get the upgraded computers that enable the behaviors seen in the video. But still, the price for the basic hardware is impressive
yes, this. I would kill for one, but its not worth it at that point. Its better to buy Petoi's Nybble and Bittle unless you really have a hardcore use for the Go2.
I had been working to design a robot joint that could be built for about $80 per joint (12 * 80 ~= $1000). The BLDC motor, the driver electronics, and gears are really hard to do at that price point. But it looks like they did it. If these sell for $1,600 that is better than I could do if I built one myself. So what is left? Only the hard part: Programming it to do something more interesting than the canned demos.
For everyone excited about the $1600 price point, that is the price for the “Air” model which doesn’t support the “side follow system”, “voice”, and ChatGBT code generation (no CPU). I imagine it’ll just be a basic remote controlled dog for $1600. The pro model with the above features is $2800, nearly double that price

It needs 2 folding arms on its back with hands so it can carry things, open things, make food, do laundry etc. And legs that extend so it can reach high places.
It's a LIDAR sensor. It spins for the same reason RADAR antennae spin-to provide 360° coverage. Engineers design moving parts to be as light as possible, since more mass needs more energy to spin, so it shouldn't have enough force to cause injury to people or animals, but I still wouldn't stick my finger in there because it might damage the part.

And when it comes to stairs, the robot needs to be able to analyze them and plan its motion so that it could speed up the steps if needed instead of that slow creep. If it's meant to follow me for whatever purpose that would serve and I walk up steps, it can't be 30 steps behind me as a carefully plots each step knowing that each step is the same distance and height as the last... Things we take for granted especially when I watch my dog race of stairs at break neck speeds

They fit inside a car or its trunk. Try that with some of the early customer service robots.

I'll also need an "additional organ" installed on the robot as well as a pump that will give it the ability to "urinate" on things with malt liquor from a 40oz bottle "bladder". Gonna need it to have a variety of voices too, but they'll mostly be those of big cats. Lastly, the beast will need a small vaporizer installed at it's posterior with a reservoir of ammonium sulfide which can be triggered at will.

It does not come with all of the features. Unitree has confirmed the robot cannot do all the tricks it demonstrates in the video
