You know what makes me happy? Knowing that one of these fine games is bound to be somebody's first video game. One of these is bound to be what gets a new gamer interested in gaming. A lot of us remember our first game with fond memories.
I think my first game was Rayman 2 or Mario 64. I was 4 years old, when I played those with my Dad and my Bro, so I'm not sure, which of 'em were my true first game, but I remember both to their fullest. Play them nearly every year one to two times and it is everytime a blast.

@@samyargo9752 depends on what all your "100%" entails. i've 100%ed world of light, beaten classic with every character, have every spirit except for one, and only have 1 panel to complete left in "challenges", and iv put in probably about 60-80 hours.

Is anyone else getting just a little tired of hyper realistic graphics in AAA games? Just saying. Point being, it's an art style. It's not going away. One art style isn't more or less valid than another. There are only so many ways to make a game look, and the primary two are hyper realism and pixels. If you're not sick of hyper realism then there's no reason you should be sick of pixels either.

Masterpotato I see, for me this was defo GOTY. It had everything a Singleplayer experience need to have. Rdr2 falls back simply because of the clunky mechanics and that shitty Online mode with microtransactions on a Beta (Ffs).

I remember back in the summer when I bought Celeste, I ended up staying up until 2 in the morning, just to see where the story went. It was so good and I’m glad to see it on this list.

@Mojoe Idk. I was hyped for Octopath but I was left fairly disappointed. Had a decent battle system with excellent bosses, art style, and music. But I legit sank 60 hours into a game with 8 short stories (2 of them were hardly stories to begin with, and there's 1 in particular that went from the best to worst in a single chapter and it made me mad) that had like 5 minutes worth of cutscenes each. I also can't get behind the idea that these characters get together and become forgotten during the others' story bits. DQ11 has pretty much everything franchises like Final Fantasy really need to get back on its feet. As it is my first DQ game, it gave me quite the first impression. But the downside to it was the soundtrack wasn't all that great, had good tracks, but had some actual bad tracks.
Spider-Man for the PS4 is my favorite game of the year! 😀 (AND Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse is my favorite movie of the year, so it's been a good year to be a Spider-Man fan!😀👍)
I like the game but I haven't played a more repetitive game this year, I still love it because of the charm and gameplay but they really need to step up their game for the sequel.
Great list! I haven't finished my GotY list up yet, but I already see a bit of reshuffling going on compared to yours. Genuinely, most of my top 4 (Spidey, Dad of Boy, RDR2, and Smash, obviously) could easily jockey for #1. 2018 hasn't been 2017, but it's still been fantastic!

I've been living abroad since June so I haven't really gotten a chance to play a lot of the amazing titles that came out this year. Yakuza Kiwami 2, Smash Bros, Mario Party, the list goes on. I've played a lot of amazing indie titles thanks to Steam, but I won't get to experience a lot of the great triple A titles until next year once I'm back in the states. Great list, Jirard. My personal favorite of this year was spider man. I just feel so much nostalgia playing that game, it brings me back to when I used to play spider man 2 as a kid. I love it
I'm right there with you Beard Man... I have Smash Bros. Ultimate at the very top of my list as well... Just ahead of God of War, Spider-man, & The Messenger! (I also had Super Mario Party in my Top 10) Such a great year for video games! Just a few hours in to Smash and I knew it was my game of the year. Now I have dozens of hours of game play under my belt, 20+ hours invested into the Spirit Mode, and it's just as fresh & exciting as it was in those first few play-throughs.
I know right! 2018 was AMAZING for gaming! So many fantastic games, like Fallout 76, Shaq Fu A Legend Reborn, Metal Gear Survive, Detective Pikachu, Nintendo Labo, Super Mega Baseball 2, LEGO DC Super Villains, Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridon, No Man’s Sky for the second time, and Final Fastasy XV Pocket Edition. Sure, there were some REALLY bad ones like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but for the most part, 2018 was packed full of wonderful games! Another great top 10 list! Keep up the good work on the channel, and I can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2019!

I only own a switch so I haven't been able to play many games on this list, but I can't wait to play them once I get more time and money. There were a lot of good games this year like God of War, Spiderman, Red Dead Redemption, and even Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Here are my favorite games this year. Super Smash Bros Ultimate Mega Man 11 Kirby Star Allies Mega Man Legacy Collection 1+2 Mega Man X Legacy Collection Undertale (For the Switch) Super Mario Party Dragon Ball FighterZ Spyro Reignited Trilogy Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze and there are other games I really loved playing this year.
I actually did a university essay on how Smash Bros' "Everyone is Here" motto is indicative of the community of gaming on the whole. A solid pick that represents something so huge.

Dragon Quest forever overlooked, DQXI was easily the best JRPG this year.
@Mojoe Idk. I was hyped for Octopath but I was left fairly disappointed. Had a decent battle system with excellent bosses, art style, and music. But I legit sank 60 hours into a game with 8 short stories (2 of them were hardly stories to begin with, and there's 1 in particular that went from the best to worst in a single chapter and it made me mad) that had like 5 minutes worth of cutscenes each. I also can't get behind the idea that these characters get together and become forgotten during the others' story bits.
DQ11 has pretty much everything franchises like Final Fantasy really need to get back on its feet. As it is my first DQ game, it gave me quite the first impression. But the downside to it was the soundtrack wasn't all that great, had good tracks, but had some actual bad tracks.

I like the game but I haven't played a more repetitive game this year, I still love it because of the charm and gameplay but they really need to step up their game for the sequel.

Great list! I haven't finished my GotY list up yet, but I already see a bit of reshuffling going on compared to yours. Genuinely, most of my top 4 (Spidey, Dad of Boy, RDR2, and Smash, obviously) could easily jockey for #1. 2018 hasn't been 2017, but it's still been fantastic!

Of course, it is debatable which is the best year in each person's opinion (not for 2016, that year clearly sucked).

So Super Smash for you was how BotW was for me. I cried when Link stood at the cliff, and just looked over Hyrule.. And I see that Pokémon Let's Go didn't make the list at all. As an avid Pokémon fan, I actually get it. I'm hoping the 2019 games will be of a different calibre, and that they have depth and after-game. Good video, bro! I've been living abroad since June so I haven't really gotten a chance to play a lot of the amazing titles that came out this year. Yakuza Kiwami 2, Smash Bros, Mario Party, the list goes on. I've played a lot of amazing indie titles thanks to Steam, but I won't get to experience a lot of the great triple A titles until next year once I'm back in the states.

My personal favorite of this year was spider man. I just feel so much nostalgia playing that game, it brings me back to when I used to play spider man 2 as a kid. I love it
I'm right there with you Beard Man... I have Smash Bros. Ultimate at the very top of my list as well... Just ahead of God of War, Spider-man, & The Messenger! (I also had Super Mario Party in my Top 10) Such a great year for video games! Just a few hours in to Smash and I knew it was my game of the year. Now I have dozens of hours of game play under my belt, 20+ hours invested into the Spirit Mode, and it's just as fresh & exciting as it was in those first few play-throughs.
My favorite was smash followed by Monster Hunter World followed by Sea of Theives

I know right! 2018 was AMAZING for gaming! So many fantastic games, like Fallout 76, Shaq Fu A Legend Reborn, Metal Gear Survive, Detective Pikachu, Nintendo Labo, Super Mega Baseball 2, LEGO DC Super Villains, Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridon, No Man’s Sky for the second time, and Final Fastasy XV Pocket Edition. Sure, there were some REALLY bad ones like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but for the most part, 2018 was packed full of wonderful games!

GOW 4 changes the entire game but doesn't forget its roots
Being a long time fan of franchise I am finally happy for kratos having happiness
He isn't the beast he used to be
But its because he withholds his anger rather than letting it flow
Its story driven but can be painfully challenging (Sigrun in GMGOW)
And nifelheim and muspalheim gives a lot of fight options
There are some story based side quest like dragons; lost souls; valkyries
I have also played new game + mode; where things get really interesting in hard mode like enemies get some new attack patterns
All in all its a good game
If you don't prefer it as GOTY; I can understand but to say it completely sucks is absurd

DQ11 is not even close to Persona 5 in terms of gameplay, music, story or style.
It is a great game, but pretty shallow in comparison.
I know all about how great Persona 5 is I platinumed it, dismissing DQ11 as tedious makes Liam an asshole.

You are my hero for putting Mega Man 11 here. That game just absolutely nailed it - couldn't BELIEVE how good it was. It's a better new MM than MM9 (or 10) was.
I literally have been playing world of light for the past 4 days nonstop, and I still didn't see that coming for #1 on this list for some reason lol. I like the pick though, and the list overall. I only own a switch so I haven't been able to play many games on this list, but I can't wait to play them once I get more time and money.
And on a side note, thanks for making all the completionist videos you do. It's been a blast watching you over the years and I can't wait for more in 2019

Smash Ultimate is a completely different type of game than Spiderman and God of War, Spiderman and God of War are definitely of a higher quality than Smash Ultimate, the sound, animation, art style, production and gameplay are all of a higher quality in Spiderman and God of War than Smash Ultimate as a fact

It's true that God of War and Spiderman are better from a technical stand point but Ultimate was a more enjoyable experience to me.
