And although she'll likely suffer the fate of her namesake, and will sadly soon be gone, her memories will live on. She's forever number one, the first CVN and by far the most decorated. I am the widow of Delbert D. Girty. I was 7 weeks pregnant when he was killed by the explosion. It was a beautiful ship I was aboard the ship in 1967 and again in November 2012 for the decommission ceremonies.
