I'm in the middle of trying to replace my water pump(I got the part for the fan clutch as well) and the fan clutch bolt is giving me a heck of a time. Also this helped me SO MUCH. I have the right wrench and it came eith the tool but the pulley had no bolts so I was just turning and turning and finally found a bolt to stick in and hold it in place
For what it's worth, changing the fan clutch fixed my overheating problem, even though the old and new clutches didn't seem much different in the amount of restriction I felt when moving them by hand...
I just did my "new to me" 2004 Durango 3.7 . It sat in a garage for a large part of it's life with only 112,650 original miles. After careful work on plugs and coils, on kinda maiden voyage she did get warm, almost hot for no immediate reason. No water leaks. I figured thermo or pump as she did spend most of her time idle. Took me 2 tries then Ebay for the lower rad hose. On to the next pain in the butt part. The Shroud / fan removal :((((( The fan took a few waks. If I ever meet the IDIO? who designed that I would treat HIM TO SPOILD ANYTHING!! So me being a bull in a china shop kinda guy I got out my jigsaw and wedged out an arm hole on each side of shroud. Had a piece of wire around the fan nut to hold in place while I "using my new arm holes" gently aligned that darn fan.. And On her next maiden voyage she seems to be running mid on the gauge.
Thanks for the info. I have a 05 Dakota 4.7 4WD that's been getting hot and loosing water through Radiator cap. I replaced radiator cap. Still loosing water through cap. I removed the thermostat and cut out the center to remove the core of the thermostat and I'm still loosing water, I think through radiator cap. I ordered a new thermostat, water pump (just because of the mileage, 263,500.) and new fan clutch. I will take a look at the bypass hose as well.
I have the same heating issues, only when going up hill in the mountains . I have the same make and model vehicle. Did this correct the problem? Thanks for the video, I feel I can do this and save some money.
"So I got this back on.." Not showing a lot of your work here bud. I came to see if there were any tricks to dealing with the fan shroud and you didn't even get yours out.

My dude! You saved the day with those screws on the pump. What was taking me an hour was done in 5 minutes.

Thanks for insight on my fan clutch

It did fix the problem. but you need to buy the oem fan clutch as the autozone one will stay engaged and the truck sounds like a jetpack.
I have this issue come up today. 118 outside, up a steep grade for almost 8 miles. Did this fix your issue?
Did this fix the temp issues?
What size bolt did you use to hold the pulley??
Just stuck what ever fit didn't thread them in.
good info,
Did you have any issues with your dodge sounding like an airplane after changing the fan clutch?
I have the same problem but it only does it for the first few minutes
Congrats on the sub count ! Great days to ya !
You the man. Took about 10 minutes to replace. Other methods did not work. Your solution was easy.
Left or right
Is there a way I can get it off even with the engine belt off
I'm sure you can if you have the tool to hold the water pump pulley while you loosen the fan.
Did it fix your overheating issue?
It did but the jet sound from the fan was so annoying I traded for a 2016 Ram 1500

Me too. Was hoping to see someone show me how they got the fan in and out.
