I'm primarily a streetfighter player but love grapplers. I'm always amazed at the amount of grapplers in KOF games. They have enough to create their own wrestling game
After my buddy Fred passed away I took on the mantle of being a Grappler or in this case a grand hugger! I'm glad to see some of our favorite characters showcased here ( T-zok, Shermie and Clark) as it brought back so many good memories!❤

I still think Clark is the better man. His toolbox of command grabs for any situation which if followed up by an flashing elbow can be canceled into Super is just to good IMO
Unironically Orochi Yashiro's offense is stupid risky, whereas Clark has safe on block enders with gatling punch, and while O.Yashiro has the buttons of Yashiro, he doesn't have anything safe to cancel them into anything. While canonically he is the strongest, in game it is Clark (for XV)
My favourite team while playing kof97 1. Yashiro(orochi) 2. Shermie(normal) 3. Leona(orochi) In those day people used to play with iori(orochi) and use quick jump moves but i used to defeat them easily with grapler Shermie.
Gameplay wise, I like Clark from 99-2002. His ability to connect his spinning backfist to a napalm stretch, and his rushdown tackle with different options afterwards was a great addition to his usual Argentine Back Breaker. But lore-wise, we can't deny that Clark is second to Orochi Yashiro here. It took Clark and Ralf to subdue Orochi Leona, and Yashiro tops her.
That only leaves the rushdowners (my favourite category) your lists are a triumph as always shoryu 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 and then make a ranking video about kof based on story (each entry individually , regardless of saga) btw still waiting on that top 10 husbando list (don't forget)

Actually, it was DATA EAST who was the pioneer of making a grappler that wasn't a muscular huge dude. DATA EAST made Fighter's History in 1993, in that game there is a female character called Ryoko Kano. Ryoko not only was the first grappler that is small but also the first female grappler in fighting games. It is funny because the same 1993 one month later after Fighter's History release date, ADK released World Heroes 2, in that game Ryoko Izumo made her debut. Another female grappler that is small and unlike Ryoko Kano, Ryoko Izumo is quick! Both gals, Ryoko Kano and Ryoko Izumo were based on the same famous female real life judoka.
Glad to see someone who remembers World Heroes 🥲 Muscle Power is very charismatic. "NUMBER ONE!!" I prefer Ryoko Izumo. One of my favorites grapplers in fighting games. She is small but quick!

Meganinten0078 I always assumed the 2 Ryokos were the same character. Never played them in the arcades (which is why I made that comment) though. Oh well. SNK got G-Mode rights (after Data east had gone down) on Fighter's History. They can claim THAT Ryoko now too.

I give you credit for having the fortitude to not put Blue Mary #1 Shoryu because I know that is your waifu! lol. I was wondering how high Clark would get! That's the first grappler I ever got good with and he opened me up to grapplers. But of course, Orochi Yashiro HAD to be #1. He is so powerful and his speed as a grappler makes him unmatched. Great list Shoryu!
What amaze me with O.Yashiro here is that he can deal as much damage as your typical Grappler like Zangief from Street Fighter or Potemkin in Guilty Gear games, but you notice something scary about him here: he is fast as heck! He can literally run toward you to dish brutal beatdown of throwing here and there across the screen. Really scary!
My personal favorites are Shermie, Clark, and Goro Daimon. I'd also put Orochi Yashiro, but that would be unfair since Yashiro is already one of my favorite characters. Grapplers, where they introduce you to the ground.
What SNK needs for KOF: a King Of Monsters all grapplers team as subboss. We already had Cyber Woo in Neo Geo Battle Colosseum. And Ai & Yuki can combine to be Atomic Guy. Just one more.. Super Geon! Lorewise, the 3 are friends too.
What I like about Hinako besides the fact that her body doesn't look like a traditional sumo wrestler, is that she is a very feminine and cutesy female character. Very polite and kind towards others 😊 Nowadays female characters in fighting games are tomboys or $€×y gals. Speaking of that, I hope one day we see Ryoko Izumo (from World Heroes) in a King of Fighters game. She is the pioneer of the 'pure heroine' gal (yes, even before Nakoruru) Edit: Would also like to see Kisarah Westfield in a new game. Like her moves in Aggressors of Dark Kombat 😊 Kisarah mixes wrestling with judo and cheerleader techniques.
Even though I'm not a fan or Hinako I still find her super cute and charming. I like her more now after her inclusion in KOF XV as I think it is the best version of her so far.
Also I agree we should see World Heroes characters in KOF. That would be beyond awesome! Kyoko is great and I honestly believe that Yuri Sakazaki was inspired by her just like I think Charlotte from SamSho was inspired by Janne from World Heroes. Do you agree? And I too LOVE Kisarah Westfield btw, especially the very first version of her. I would also like to see Ai from Neo Geo Battle Coliseum join KOF as well. I don’t usually play Grapplers that much more of a Zoner and Shoto and or in this game’s case the Protagonist characters occasionally but i guess I’d be something like this. 1. Goro Daimon 2. Antonov 3. Orochi Yashiro 4. Blue Mary 5. Ramon 6. Tizoc/King of Dinosaurs 7. Shermie 8. Vice 9. Clark Still 9. Angel 10.
I think the only way to get Vice in a good mood is to share some comics with her 😅 (She is a comic book fan) Makes me wonder if other characters also likes comics. I remember an official popularity poll (about the characters in KOF Maximum Impact 2) and Clark was in the top 10, the second male character with most votes (Rock Howard being the male character with most votes)! No wonder why Clark got one of the best fights in the KOF Destiny show.. Btw, it is funny how Clark's alternate costume in the Maximum Impact games is him being full wrestler 😂
I do not agree with the honorable mentions, because their fighting styles are not based on grappling techniques like the rest in this top. Ralf is a powerhouse who relies on his powerfull puches; Chang uses as weapons his massives body and strenght, alongside with his steel ball and the taekwondo he learned with Kim; Dolores attacks are based on her earth element powers; Yamazaki... well, he just wanna break your bones and he will use everything that hurts on you. I was expecting Clark to be the number one in this list (followed by Daimon very very close), but Orochi Yashiro was a pleasant surprise. It makes sense O. Yashiro be the first and Clark the second.
Clark is always my go to grappler on any KOF Series, unless it's KOF'02 then I'd choose Orochi Yashiro. I believe he's a better grappler in that edition

How Can Orochi Yashiro be at #1 if his Super Max moves was a Heavy Strike Punch. he should be at #3 Daimon should be at #2 His Super are all Grapple (except his HSDM at 2002 that he need to strike the Ground) and Clark should be #1. Undebatable, his moves are mostly Grappling. in KOF 2002 he has no Strikes except from normal moves.

If a character has a command grab, grab super with INFINITe possibilities, and lvl 3 grab super which finishes with a move that takes grappling to inhuman lvls, shouldn't you add them to the list?😂

If a character has a command grab, grab super with INFINITe possibilities, and lvl 3 grab super which finishes with a move that takes grappling to inhuman lvls, shouldn't you add them to the list?😂
