Sorry to spam your comments but the reason why a lot of games and other media do not call zombies zombies is because there's a (false) idea that none of the characters called the zombies such in the Romero movies, so it because kind of a "tradition" that people making zombie movies do to try to seem "in the know". The issue is that Peter calls them zombies a couple of times in the Cannes cut of Dawn of the Dead. Possibly also they were called it in the original Night of the Living Dead, I don't remember that film very well as I never really liked it (Savini's remake is better).
