oingo boingo is seriously one of the most underrated bands of all time...i know they received a large chunk of fame and have a seriously solid grassroots following but you never see them on top 100 bands or anything like that. they are so influential and have such a distinct sound that nobody can even imitate. oingo boingo will be missed!
Dave, your comment from 2011 is still as true today in 2022 as it was when you typed it. As big as they were (and they WERE big!) they are seriously under-appreciated. Got to get the Professor of Rock to find out why....
Best live band ever, I've been to hundred (yes hundreds) of concerts, and no one beat Oingo Boingo. Okay maybe Led Zeppelin but that's another story...Elfman is a genius....insane energy....
When I discovered Boingo in 1980 they still were playing relatively small venues like Wolfe & Rismiller's Country Club in Reseda and the Palomino in, iirc, Huntington Beach. I saw them as many times as I could and am grateful for every occasion.
When Boingo performed, they poured their heart and soul into the show. Concerts were always 2.5 hours or more, compared to other acts I've seen these days who play for less than 2 hours. The fans would dress in costumes and the whole concert was an "event", often taking place near Halloween. Not a Halloween goes by that I don't wish Boingo would reunite and tour my town again.
Yes we do know how lucky we were and if you lived in Los Angeles you saw them every Oct 31.Not only were they fun, the crowds were also nice and fun. Can't remember all the times I saw them, but watching these brings back alot of memories I went all three farewell concerts at the Universal Amp theater near Universal Studios The costumes and puppets all the Día de los Muertos items were all part of it, yes I am over 40 have kids.....
It's a different kind of Trip 15 years later watching while sipping the Morning Coffee... than... just entering Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre after pounding Mickey's Big Mouths & Colt 45 Malt Liquor with a ton of good looking 1980's women around you & adrenaline running thru your veins! We lived for this! LOL! How is Mr. Elfman's Hearing loss? Perhaps I am suffering from hearing loss too from being a Fan? Anyway's thank you Oingo Boingo for the Fun Adreniline Rushing Music!
Back in the day we would see Oingo Boingo three times a year and they would play for 2-3 hours every concert and the crowd would beg they to come back and do more. I remember a 4 hour concert at Irvine Meadows in the late 80's. They were the ultimate crowd pleasers.. I dont think i ever heard them cover a song live either--all original stuff
It's interesting how this song reference "if the arabs don't get us first" This song was written in the early 1980s, september 11 happened 20 years later. D. Elfman is like a prophet.
This song was about how the media always blames everything on the Russians or the Arabs which they still do even today especially the Russians. And now with the riots...
Stupid stuff has been going on for a long time. Arabs have been attacking America since the 70s, Russians have been threatening to nuke the US since the 50s and riots come and go every 20 years.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this band! Went to so many Oingo Boingo concerts in CA back in the '80's, it wouldn't surprise me if I was spotted in "the pit" on this video ;)
é uma pena que nunca verei um show deles ao vivo... sao quase 18 anos curtindo o trabalho deles e o que me frustra é saber que nunca irei assistir um show deles... :(
that's crazy to that person who mentioned Big Bear I've lived in B.B. for 34 years and boingo was my most played cassette all the way back to solo Elfman is brilliant
Dude, Universal Amphitheatre! Saw them there 5 times ('88x2, '90 '91 and Halloween/farewell'95) and was totally deaf the whole next day each time! AWESOME band
i agree with 'saytheremeg', you are very lucky guys. harder to be a 'boingoloid' in England when no-one here has heard of them but me 8-). oh yeah, and this is an awesome performance XD
I saw Boingo perform 5 times in Utah where they regularly toured due to large following (2 times in Park City, 1 in the Salt Palace, and 2 the Delta Center). Their final tour, which this was filmed from, was nothing short of spectacular.
@MissLoriAnn You are so right! The Halloween shows were incredible. Growing up in Socal we used to look forward to Boingo and the Dead coming to the Meadows. You couldn't come within a mile of that place without getting high. LOL!
i was at the first lolapalooza too it was 1991 i think i got back stage & partied with ice t's heavy metal band and met my CRUSH stephen perkins drummer janes addiction lol
@saytheremeg I just today saw your comment and have to say that you are correct that those of us who saw Boingo live are very lucky to have done so. Between 1980 and 1995, I saw them 22 times. (yeah, I'm a Boingo junkie).
like this tune a lot i seen them do it at the us festival in 1983 wish i could find that video have not had any luck in doing so if anyone has that performance please post it thxxxxx
hes not retired from movie soundtrack songwriting~! He is SO good. He just did alice in wonderfland this year, and hellboy, he does a couple movies a year he is amazing
@MrsMazik Actually, I'm not from LA. Born and raised in Salt Lake, which was Boingo's favorite city (after LA) to do a show. In full disclosure, I did see them in LA 7 or 8 times because I lived in the area for several years and it was just a quick commute to be able to see them in both cities.
I saw Wang Chung a couple months ago in LA. They were much better than I expected. They opened for ABC and Berlin. Nothing will ever match Oingo Boingo though.
The Tubes, maybe??? Nah, there's nobody who could cut these guys...nobody else who could do this. Wonder if anybody ever saw a bill w/ The Tubes & Oingo, tho? Theoretically(geographically & historically)possible...what a concept!!
Of course everything here is fantastic, but I would just like to call attention to Avila's ridiculously high-pitched voice in Tender Lumplings. Yes. :D
@harpychicklol13 Sorry. It was amazing groing up with Boingo and creative and questioning music of the time. Just thank god you have youtube to see what it was like.
Saw the first Lolapoolza with Jane's headlining at Irvine Meadows back in I think 1990. I have friends that saw dozens of shows at Irvine Meadows. They never paid once. They did the bull rush.
Great band, but this rendition is a bit grungy and muddy. I didn't see the need for the fourth guitar (along from Bartek's lead, Elfman's rhythm, and Avila's bass).
Love these guys. However, these "new" versions of old classics,,, sorry, they suck. Stay original and quit trying to be "modern". You are the true original so you don't have to change. Everyone else does! Oingo Boingo forever. Stay original.
It's gone...so...the only places around here they played that are still standing are Irvine Meadows (going to be torn down for freaking HOUSES), and of course, the Greek Theatre. I do believe some of the college venues may still be around, however.
Yeah...Irvine Meadows is gone...Pacific amp is still there though. Go figure. I just went (07/22/2017) to Pacific to see the Boingo tribute band. They were actually, pretty good !

I saw them at six flags magic mt. in 1983. Wow!! we broke the benches we were sitting on , Awesome .
When Boingo performed, they poured their heart and soul into the show. Concerts were always 2.5 hours or more, compared to other acts I've seen these days who play for less than 2 hours. This has always been my favorite Oingo Boingo song. It seems pretty timely for 2017.
2022 - "hold my beer"
My favorite song from my favorite album, by my favorite live band ever.
I saw them 17 times in the 80's and 90's! The Halloween show's were legendary!! Nothing has ever compared to their shows!! I miss them!!
Boingo never gets old.saw them in the late 80s at the greek twice and irvine meadows.
It's interesting how this song reference "if the arabs don't get us first" This song was written in the early 1980s, september 11 happened 20 years later. D. Elfman is like a prophet.
BOINGO CONFIRMED !!
Also keep in mind this song is sarcastic
This song was about how the media always blames everything on the Russians or the Arabs which they still do even today especially the Russians. And now with the riots...

This song simply rules. Great freakin' performance!
Nothing has come close to Oingo Boingo. I went to as many concerts as I possibly could back in the day. Thank you for the memories.
Halloween just will not be same without a Biongo Concert
Wow, sounds and looks great! What a fantastic band they were.
oingo boingo is something from my youth that i miss more than anything elso. good times/great music!NO ONE PUTS A SHOW ON LIKE THESE GUYS DID! NO-ONE!
I was there in 1995 at that concert. I'll always remember that electrifying veneu.
La Mirada H.S. in So. Cal has one claim to fame:1981 Boingo played in our gym!!!
We were so cool! Haha
Many bands aspire to be this tight playing live.
Oingo Boingo will live forever!
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this band! Went to so many Oingo Boingo concerts in CA back in the '80's, it wouldn't surprise me if I was spotted in "the pit" on this video ;)

I love all of Danny Elfmans work - from Oingo Boingo to his movie composition he is amazing!
Feeling oddly compelled to return to this song, there's just something about the first line that seems rather timely.
Not just the first line - the chorus too.
He changed “yocat” to “hipster” in the Coachella version.
boingo played the longest and sounded the best of all the concerts ive been to
Dude, Universal Amphitheatre! Saw them there 5 times ('88x2, '90 '91 and Halloween/farewell'95) and was totally deaf the whole next day each time! AWESOME band

TYPICAL OINGO BOINGO BRILLIANCE>>>>MAN O MAN I MISS THOSE DAYS WHEN YOU COULD +HIT A CLUB AND SEE A BAND #3rd Row!!!
I saw Boingo perform 5 times in Utah where they regularly toured due to large following (2 times in Park City, 1 in the Salt Palace, and 2 the Delta Center). Their final tour, which this was filmed from, was nothing short of spectacular.

2012, 20 years old, loving it.
Saw them in they Bay Area in 1984... Opening act was Wang Chung- who were boo'd during their performance. Oingo Boingo ROCK !
good god, I want to have been there so much
hes not retired from movie soundtrack songwriting~! He is SO good. He just did alice in wonderfland this year, and hellboy, he does a couple movies a year he is amazing
The bass sound is killer!!! Reminds me the sound of Geddy's bass.
bass player completely owns!
Wonder where that Gen Y tool is from a few songs ago on this playlist who said OB wasn't hard enough to mosh to?
- signed, female Gen X punk
i love all the shows at Irvine
Saw them @ Six Flags Magic Mt. Early '80's also the Tubes and Cheap Trick perc's of working there in the '80's
This is one of my favorite boingo songs.
that is true and some of his others songs have mirrors of future events
@MrsMazik

wow mosh at oingo boingo nice!!!!
There's a reason Danny Elfmans the Motherfuckin man&that Oingo Boingo's the shit! This concise summary says it all!!2006 NO LESS!!!AWESOME!!
good song..especially at the points during the chorus where it picks up.
I absolutely LOVE Danny Elfman. LOVE him...... I saw every show he did in Atlanta - but that wasn't enough.
This is direct from the Farewell Tour video. And the extras make it well worth the money if you can get it.
totally on the money !
Where I got my screen name from. :)
this is onigo boingos last concert in 1995 at the universal ampitheater
@NekoChanSenpai No...this was the end of oingo boingo...Last concert I believe. He started working with Tim Burton in 1985.
what city did you see the show in?
Stephen Perkins......the man with the kinky hair.......seems like a very nice guy
Yes. :D
Hell yeah
Why isn't he using the usual voice? Was this around the time he quit and started working fo Tim Burton?
Same here.
I do know how lucky I was all 12 times and 8 halloweens--they were the best of their day!
intro sounds like some old primus, clowny... #clownslivesmatter
@saytheremeg
We DID know - that's why we kept going and going and going-going-oing-oingo-oingo boingo...OINGO BOINGO forever.
Coming back to this because of the impending invasion of Ukraine lol
@harpychicklol13 Sorry. It was amazing groing up with Boingo and creative and questioning music of the time. Just thank god you have youtube to see what it was like.
lol i wish i could go back to those times and i wouldnt fear breaking myself every time i go to a concert :D
And now for 2012
Agreed. (I'm not a girl.)
Saw the first Lolapoolza with Jane's headlining at Irvine Meadows back in I think 1990.
I have friends that saw dozens of shows at Irvine Meadows. They never paid once. They did the bull rush.
This is Punk as fuck, best band ever
more!!!!!!
Great band, but this rendition is a bit grungy and muddy. I didn't see the need for the fourth guitar (along from Bartek's lead, Elfman's rhythm, and Avila's bass).
Yeah, I have this on DVD and he doesn't wear shoes at all in this concert.
0:27 Geddy Lee???
I'm so sad I never got to see them in 80s and 90s. I was born in the wrong decade T_T
Danny is almost always barefoot at some point in concert. In Seattle I don't think he even bothered with shoes. Came onstage bare.
i see moshers!
oh my godddd.
i wish i had been there.
i want to marry danny elfman
:(
Same I love him
no wonder hes the coolest movie scorer...he literally rocks out like a motherfucker
The only person I've ever seen rival these guys live was Robert Plant, and well D'uh, he is the Golden God. Danny should be the Ginger God.
This is what SKA wishes it could be.
Just Another Day isnt on their either
Hey wolffang!
vote up if your still listening in 2011
I'm still listening in 2022 lol
2:05 is when it gets good, lol
sisisisi
Nothing to fear but fear itself...and spiders, and zombies, and clowns...hmmm?
*2013
@harpychicklol13 idem!
Would I let him buy me candy? Oh yes.
Love these guys. However, these "new" versions of old classics,,, sorry, they suck. Stay original and quit trying to be "modern". You are the true original so you don't have to change. Everyone else does! Oingo Boingo forever. Stay original.
Don't think I have been back to the Universal Amphitheater since.
It's gone...so...the only places around here they played that are still standing are Irvine Meadows (going to be torn down for freaking HOUSES), and of course, the Greek Theatre. I do believe some of the college venues may still be around, however.
UNIVERSAL AMP GOT TORN DOWN?
Yes. "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter"
is now where it used to stand.
Yeah...Irvine Meadows is gone...Pacific amp is still there though. Go figure. I just went (07/22/2017) to Pacific to see the Boingo tribute band. They were actually, pretty good !
tinnitis
it said i am the walurs
I only got to see them at Irvine Amphitheatre Halloween '93, and that is a shitty venue. Awesome concert, though.
@TheBombshell05
i was born in the good decade, but not in the good city ;)
