Yeah butthey didn't have to pay as much in utilities and electricity because they didn't always have lights on and people using toilets... it's just simple overhead costs. Not to mention in some states child care is required in government employment.
There are government agencies which provide services to corporations and consumers, and those employees are 100% paid by the fees of the constituents using those services. Before COVID they were only working one or two days a week in the office because there was not enough office space for tens of thousands of employees performing Congress mandated regulatory work. To pay for government buildings would take time to build those buildings, cost $500 million to a billion dollars for each agency building and take a few years to build, with EPA and land use permitting as long as 10 years - for people who are working at no expense to the government with regard to a place to work, building, maintenance, parking, utilities, etc. furthermore, there is software constantly tracking their productivity working remotely, far more closely than they would be monitored actually in the office. Plus they're more productive because at their homes they're not interacting with dozens or hundreds of other employees daily distracting them from the actual critical tasks they're supposed to be performing. Furthermore, statistical data from productivity management software shows that many of these employees more than 70% of them, are working through the time that they would normally be commuting a total of 2 to 4 hours daily. They get no overtime for that but they do get comp time which they can't take because the comp time expires in 6 weeks and they are so overworked that they never get to use their comp time and some even lose some of their vacation time. Sick days with COVID, they can work from home with COVID or flu, RSV and pneumonia. You just can't make dramatic sweeping statements that you're going to make everybody go back to work without realizing that there is a system that is highly functional for most employees, particularly those involved with providing services based on regulated activities. I am surprised people don’t know that and buy into this waste and fraud bs. TRUMP Will cost US millions in lawsuits with employees and unions as he tries to ignore labor laws and union contracts. My bet is on the unions.

I hope that they move all these government organizations or agencies out of Washington DC send them to a different states break it up and if the people don't want to follow the job they can quit
> to a different states Given that the federal government already does this at scale (distributing federal agency workers across the US) to prop up poorer states, large budget cuts will obviously mean taking away large amounts of money and jobs from the states (with the poorer ones suffering most on account of lack of well paid other positions). Firing most federal remote workers will only be a tiny first step to get to 2trn in cuts. Social security, medicare, the military, those are the big ticket items where cuts can really reduce the deficit, again mostly impacting the poorer states.
It’s one thing to make a argument, however contrary, that’s based in logic and facts. It’s something altogether different to regurgitate absolute ignorance for the sake of political grandstanding.
I disagree with this. I worked for a company that had a work from home perk but it had to be earned through work performance. They found that people who worked from home were 10% more productive than those that came into the office. Everything at work was the same at home in the company was able to see all of my work
@@spg5658Exactly. I had remote researchers working with me during Covid. Only a few could really work productively, and this required constant monitoring. Getting together, brainstorm the problems, talk to each other - this is priceless.
The employees shouldn't be too surprised that the government is requiring them to return back to their workplace. The biggest question is how those in charge allowed it to continue in the first place.
Because we had weak, woke leaders who don't want to offend or hurt someone's feelings. Imagine that a person who would get hurt feelings because they are expected to actually show up for their job 😂 Unbelievable
This argument is oversimplified. I work for the federal government (V.A. employee) my job is very demanding and I genuinely have more work than I can do in a day. I eat lunch at my desk, if I eat, and I only get up long enough to use the restroom when I absolutely have to. I often work 20-30 minutes past quitting time. My whole team is the same way. All of us work from home because we have no office. The hospital had to send us all home to make room for more patient service and treatment areas. So they would have to spend millions to build a building, furnish it, and maintain it just to bring us all back. I’d love to do that. I could actually see my team in person and hang out with them. It’s definitely not going to save any money or create any increase in production, but have at it I guess. That’s not to say there isn’t government waste. I’m just saying it’s not as black and white as they would have you believe.
@ perhaps not, but I imagine it’s more typical than people think. That said, I truly don’t know. I personally don’t have any issue working in an office. In my situation though, it doesn’t make economic sense. If they build a place for us to work and mandate we show up I 100% agree that anyone who refuses should no longer have a job.
Telework was in place prior to the pandemic. But the world changed. Even doctors are now doing telemedicine appointments. Federal workers will stop teleworking. But sooner or later when the government wants to operate more efficiently it will explore limited telework again.
There is NO reason federal employees can't go into work. They get paid way too much as is. If they dont want to come in, they dont need their taxpayer funded jobs. They can learn to code and work from home privately without using federal $$.

I'm sorry, but who are all these federal employees working from home who never go to the office? The reality is that only 10 percent of federal employees, or less, work 100 percent remotely, that's all. That's a fact, not this made-up story that they are telling in this news story or similar ones. The other fact is that approximately 40 percent of federal positions are able to telework 1, 2, or 3 days per week. Most federal positions do not telework or work remotely. Half of the time of telework positions is spent in the office. The other fact is that out of those approximate 40 percent teleworking positions, not remote, employees have to produce and are supervised or they are taken off telework, period. Please get the facts straight. Some of the federal positions, which are authorized to telework, go back to around 1999. This is nothing new. If you don't do your work, you're taken off telework, period. Lastly, the telework act is just that, an act passed by both sides of the isle, Republicans and Democrats in 2000, almost 25 years ago, only for positions sutable for telework, which are less than half of all federal positions and for half of the time, the other half is spent in the office. Please stop saying that "all" federal employees are working from home and have not returned to the office in years. it's simply not true.

That is the way the govt is already set up, offices throughout almost every state and has been forever. They also stopped leasing bldgs/office space as employees had worked from home prior to covid. The other fact is that out of those approximate 40 percent teleworking positions, not remote, employees have to produce and are supervised or they are taken off telework, period. Please get the facts straight. Some of the federal positions, which are authorized to telework, go back to around 1999. This is nothing new. Dollars to doughnuts you have mouse wiggler software installed on your work laptop.
All this outrage about working at home is crazy to me. People did it for decades before Covid because it increases productivity and decreases waste. Companies saved millions sending workers home (or they would not have done it) and employees can be tracked and monitored closely electronically. My boss knew what I was doing every minute. Half of America seem clueless about WAH BENEFITS. WHY WOULD A PRESIDENT WANT TO SPEND MORE AND GET LESS FROM A WORKFORCE??
Because nobody believes a thing your side says anymore...more productive?...don't believe it for a second...
@@UltraHenry you shouldn’t believe me. Look it up for yourself. Do your own fact check. You have no idea what my side is. I’m talking about work at home. Do you really think a company would pay $ to make me a home worker if they knew I would goof off and they would loose $ doing it? Trust me, companies don’t do things that loose $ or hurt their bottom line for long. At least I don’t think so. Happy Holidays to you!
Other countries like China they all go to office to work but still they are doing better then America
The ignorant posts against remote working is eye opening. A bunch of ignorant basement dwellers.
Exactly!!! Most of these people don’t have a clue
The most ridiculous thing here is that there are unions for _government_ jobs.
Heaven forbid they actually earn that pension.
Is the administration staying in DC and not going to Mar A Lago?
😂
Here in California, we have empty federal buildings that have office availability for anyone needing an office. Hope they look at Social Security Administration. Currently it takes 223 days to process an application and that is on their toll free voicemail, If you need to confirm it.
This is because of a lack of manpower at SSA and has nothing to do with working from home.
Don’t hold your breath. Trump will be cutting g federal employees.

@@kafizola5695 there are 60k workers. Maybe a time/motion study to find the delay reasons....TYPICALLY, inefficient systems and processes are a bigger issue than headcount....the problem with gov't is no one has the background or expertise to do this analysis....until now....
This was before Covid SSA has always been behind like always
He will need to cancel the Union Contracts, it will take 4 years to do that.
The federal government was behind in their job duties prior to being able to work from home. Working from home is of great value to many families. Some people do take advantage of working from home and others seriously do work.
If it’s a value to you and your employer wants you to work in the office, then get a different job!
Close the departments that are working from home and create new departments and hire new in office workers.
Come back to work. Do NOT be Lazy and Lazy.
Ha ha you got it Toyota !
Yes the federal workers should have to go back to their place of employment just like I have to. Sitting at home and collecting a check for what.
You are assuming they are not working.
Federal workers go in office and telework y’all dumb af
@@kafizola5695 You are assuming they are working.
There are a lot of good federal workers that do their job from the office and home. We are paid less than the private sector. Stop lumping all of us together
They need to come to work. Do NOT be lazy Lady.
@@KarinaCan-lh3vk you should listen to what she is reporting. Laziness has absolutely zero to do with this. SMH
He wasn’t in office. Spent his time at home in Marolardo. Bad golfing and concepts of a plan for child care.
So when the airline pilots one on strike, the president made him go back to work, right? So you’re saying that the president can’t make these union workers go back to work😊
When I left the DOD after 20 years of service, there were two people screwing off for every smart and hard worker. The minority got things done. Very frustrating. And now silly servants get to "work" from home. LMAO!
I'm personally more of get up and go to work guy been a truck driver most my life. I still believe that in some jobs working at home could be beneficial to everyone involved. To each his own it is what it is
When you have an employer, “to each his own” applies to the employer, not the workers!
They dont need to come in to work, just stay home and if thats a problem dont ever come in again...your fired
How many disruptions do you have in one day working in the office? I had less disruptions when I was allowed to work from home for 3 weeks while a remodel was being done. The work still got done and I could concentrate more because co-workers weren’t bugging me. This is all about control. 😡
Yep. This is a nothing burger.
People who think more work gets done in an office setting are people who likely never worked in an office setting 😂.
They just want to control their workers. I refuse to work in an office ever again.
I get interrupted five or more times during the job, which varies, but I don't mind; it breaks the monotony. And it is part of my job to assist my team members. Enough of the work-from-home crap. Get your butt up and out the door.
@ if your job is to assist your team, then I’d say you should be at the office. But customer service jobs where you’re on the phone all day, data entry, programming can all be done from home.

Since this is Federal government I'm concerned about security working from home is a bigger risk of Intel getting hacked
Oh good. Maybe after three YEARS the IRS can find out who is using my autistic son's SSN and give him his refunds. Maybe send us a letter? Put the "new citizen" in jail? _SOMETHING?_
How about you login to IRS.gov and file for an IPPIN to claim identity theft. It’s literally on the website just setup an account
Then lock your sons social as well with the credit bureaus
Our tax dollars pay their salary. If they don’t abide by the CEO’s rules then they should be fired…
Unions can't stop from the government. From eliminating position s.
lower seniority people should keep that in mind
Yes, remember when Reagan fired all air traffic controllers?? I certainly do.
@dracula7644 president reagon hired permanent replacements for striking air traffic controllers. He didn't fire anyone. Setting legal precedent.
Depends on contract and union. Eliminating position does not always eliminate person from employment. It could only move them.
@Hiker3339 if position is eliminated. Their is no position to fill. Meaning layoffs. I worked for a union years ago. Unions can only do so much
Easy…don’t go to the office, don’t get paid
