As an Englishman, I applaud hugely the change in Rassie’s manner in Press conferences and interviews. He has clearly been THE best coach in International rugby in a decade or more. But he often had that sore-loser ‘edge’ when things didn’t quite go his way. Now he is the complete package - not only the best strategic rugby brain on the planet, but respectful and fair to all his opponents - whilst still standing 100% behind his fantastic squad. Power to you Rassie ✊🏼
A lot of managers use the interviews as a psychological tactic to get into the minds of the opposition... alex ferrguson.. jose mourinho (he was a master at it)... boxers do it... it's part of the mind games

As a kiwi I think rassies an awesome coach! He's the Steve Hansen of NZ for South Africa! He knows his team and isn't afraid to give his new guys a run! They didn't win but they gave it there all! A huge congrats to the pumas
Congrats to Los Pumas, they deserved the win. As for Rassie, he underestimated Argentina and he does not get a pass on this. This loss is unacceptable because it could have been prevented. I absolutely have ZERO respect for his comment regarding not viewing themselves as the favourites. The Boks are B2B WC winners and were 100% the favourites. His team selections and gameplan were the problem. The Springbok defense has been poor under Flannery and for all the praise that Tony Brown has received, the Boks attack has been average, and their handling errors at schoolboy level since he took over. I'm no fan of Tony Brown or Flannery, the Boks have been going down hill since they've joined the management team.

Yes we have individual performances and moment of brilliance, but overall our backline don't look like an offensive unit when you compare what we've seen from the Argies. We've let in soft tries in all our games. I don't think Rassie under estimated the Argies. I think he used the moment to blood some of his newer players in a pressure match. Didnt work out, but I would have liked to see him select our strongest team to take it to the Argies and try seal the tournament there and then. Massive ups to the Argies. Knew it was going to be a tough game, never easy there! A win for them next week and we will see NZ finish third... Who'd a thunk it?

Same, fully behind the Bokke all the way, buy I couldn't help being impressed by these guys. I do think we need more games in South America to get used to the conditions. The heat and humidity definitely took its toll, it evened out our usual advantage past 60 minutes. But the Pumas were clearly struggling also, if we can get a few more games there, the environment won't be such an issue. Although we have similar conditions in Durban, I don't know that I remember a game in that heat really.
@@bilkees8151 those are some great points you raise. The conditions and actually getting used to their passionate fans and hostile environments like others get here in SA 😆. Argentina have worked for this and credit to them! In addition, the yellow card we had in the first half made all the difference and they knew how to exploit that gap in defense. We played too much of a “loose” and expansive game. You could actually see in the second half they went back to the old, safe, “bok style”. Looking forward to the final! It’s gonna be a proper challenge!

Manie's criticism in general is fair. the risk of including him is known to us all. havin said that I find it unfair to say he lost us the game yesterday as other comments imply. we deserved to lose the game before the final ten minutes. we had no captain and generally were pathetic.

Come now Rassie, Moerat is maybe 3rd choice no 4 lock and now you select him as captain in a must win game. Alongside other selection issues, the game plan didnt work, the defense was porous. We played much better with ball in hand, going through the phases, we lost the kicking battle time and again. The kick chase did give us return now and then but the tactical kicking was very poor from the backfield

@BrendenNel Rassie says we should not blame Manie for the last kick, fair enough. My counter argument is that he picked this team and most teams this year to be placed in pressure cookers, kind of like Heyneke with his coal to diamonds analogy, and Manie missed a BMT kick. So by Rassie's own logic Manie failed the test in fact a couple of players failed. Moerat, Eskom, BJD, Jan-Hendrik also not convinced with Steenekamp. Ruan Nortje was great, he is a coal to diamond this year. Am is great on attack but shift him to 13 please, if he is playing he is 13 not a 12. We should be searching for an heir apparent for DDA at this stage, a player of the same mold and we don't have that in our squad. So coming back to Rassie's own logic a lot of players failed this pressure cooker test, since this is the reason for chopping and changing I would have loved us to send over out best team get the Rugby championship record and title in the bag. I said a month and a half ago this is a great squad use 2 or 3 players rotationally each game that need to be tested, get experience and keep winning games. Get Felix Jones on the phone and get him back in, he is world class.

Rassie you are wrong. Winning a test match off a penalty kick is just as much the DNA of the springboks as the set pieces. Just think back to the world cup, it's what literally won us the WC. Not just that, how many times in the past have we won a series, big ones like the lion series off a kick? Using our scrums to generate a penalty is many times how we win. Manie is killing our a ability to win games off pressure and set piece.

Should never have been selected. He is an extremely poor leader and player. Not just his fault. He is probably number 5 in the lock line up yet he is given captaincy. Makes no sense.
Moerat needs to step up if he wants to be captain as he will always be comapred to Kyolisi - Etzebeth and others - but the error rate and the lineout malfunctioning is an ongoing problem that hasnt been addressed and Libbok has proved that he hasnt got what it takes.
It seems like many people are overlooking the fact that we are no longer the number one team in the world, and even if we win against the Pumas in South Africa, we still won't be. For me, that's the biggest takeaway from this loss. Everyone seems to think it’s easy to reclaim the top spot. As for Manie, he's not a Springbok fly-half. He might fit better as a fullback or in another position, but definitely not at 10. You can only make the most of his skills if there’s a reliable kicker on the team, much like when Percy played. I understand that any team can lose on a given day, but not in this manner-especially when you follow your game plan but fail to execute the kicks.

As Rassie said: Manie didn't let through the 4 tries in the first half. But blaming him for costing SA the game when the Boks played badly? Yes, he could have won the game by kicking through a simple pen; but SA should not have been a position where it boiled down to a last kick. This was both an experiment and the opportunity for some players to make their mark. It’s early in the World Cup cycle so some South Africans need to get a grip. Some stepped up, some didn’t. We watched the game they know who they are. No point roasting those players. Now Nelspruit.
Bad day for the boks. I think Rassie is very disappointed in the teams performance. Deffence was far below par reflecting a lack of commitment on the day. The boks surrendered their "golden time" to easy, and for that, Rassie must take full responsibility in terms of his team selection.
I think more attacking running rugby also exposes the Boks on the counter. Are we giving away our core strength of forward tight rugby which wins us the big games and world cups.

People should relax. It's all an ego thing. Most critics couldn't even catch a ball themselves! Feeling sorry for Manie, that kick and the line finder wasn't very good.
Rassie not knowing the names of the Argentinian players at the press conference beforehand, first mistake. Going for the 3-pointer when the Argies were on the ropes at 14-0, was the second major mistake. Not competing on Arg lineouts in the first half - the third. Reinach chucking the ball away after his try, thus giving Pollard almost no time to kick the conversion - just brainless. Libbok overcooking the kick to the corner - major mistake. Add to all that - a 70% tackle rate with 0 dominant tackles. Just bad planning from the get-go. Manie missing a straightforward kick was the least of our problems.
1) Who the heck is this Moerat guy, and why is he in the team, 2) I thought it was risky to "try" things as the Boks / Rassie did, but it was amazing when it clicked, and 3) its great to try these things in these less high pressure games. You gotta gamble sometimes.

Manie is a good play maker even at test lvel. His boots are just shy at test level when eyeing the posts. That's all I have against Manie

We played much better with ball in hand, going through the phases, we lost the kicking battle time and again. The kick chase did give us return now and then but the tactical kicking was very poor from the backfield

My counter argument is that he picked this team and most teams this year to be placed in pressure cookers, kind of like Heyneke with his coal to diamonds analogy, and Manie missed a BMT kick. So by Rassie's own logic Manie failed the test in fact a couple of players failed. Moerat, Eskom, BJD, Jan-Hendrik also not convinced with Steenekamp. Ruan Nortje was great, he is a coal to diamond this year. Am is great on attack but shift him to 13 please, if he is playing he is 13 not a 12. We should be searching for an heir apparent for DDA at this stage, a player of the same mold and we don't have that in our squad. So coming back to Rassie's own logic a lot of players failed this pressure cooker test, since this is the reason for chopping and changing I would have loved us to send over out best team get the Rugby championship record and title in the bag. I said a month and a half ago this is a great squad use 2 or 3 players rotationally each game that need to be tested, get experience and keep winning games. Rassie you are wrong. Winning a test match off a penalty kick is just as much the DNA of the springboks as the set pieces. Just think back to the world cup, it's what literally won us the WC. Not just that, how many times in the past have we won a series, big ones like the lion series off a kick?
Using our scrums to generate a penalty is many times how we win. Manie is killing our a ability to win games off pressure and set piece.

It seems like many people are overlooking the fact that we are no longer the number one team in the world, and even if we win against the Pumas in South Africa, we still won't be. For me, that's the biggest takeaway from this loss. Everyone seems to think it’s easy to reclaim the top spot. As for Manie, he's not a Springbok fly-half. He might fit better as a fullback or in another position, but definitely not at 10. You can only make the most of his skills if there’s a reliable kicker on the team, much like when Percy played. I understand that any team can lose on a given day, but not in this manner-especially when you follow your game plan but fail to execute the kicks.

1) Who the heck is this Moerat guy, and why is he in the team, 2) I thought it was risky to "try" things as the Boks / Rassie did, but it was amazing when it clicked, and 3) its great to try these things in these less high pressure games. You gotta gamble sometimes.
