For me I like no 3 the most. However, I’d say no 1 is the most raw in its emotion but they all are INCREDIBLY EMOTIONAL and these are just my opinions. and no 4 is the most developed. And no 3 and no 2 just have a special place in my heart
I love this piece I love the quiet and relaxed main theme, I love the contrast made by the 2nd theme and I love how they slowly but surely fuse togheter, and then the Coda arrives
3:18 Abrupt and unexpected pause 3:42 Expecting the grand finale, doesn't happen 3:57 Expecting the grand finale again, but again doesn't happen. 4:11 You think it's there, but then 4:25. 5:04 There it is! Chopin just moved us to the edge of our seat and back for 4 consecutive times. Superb composition.
That pause at 3:18 is one of my favorite moments in classical music. It just reinforces the "somethings not right" vibe of the piece without playing a note. Brilliant.

vCodas idk, but all I know is that after I played the first one I skipped to the fourth because I simply couldn’t wait. I think it might be because the piece captures almost every emotion but still ends tragically like the first.
I never heard completely the no. 2 before. I underestimate this piece because in the begining it sound really slow and the vibes not like the other three. This is the first time i heard this piece completely after i overwhelmed love with number 1, 3, and 4. And i just realized this one is way above my expectations. And yeah, chopin's ballade are my fav pieces all the time. Thanks Traum for the amazing performance! :D
Hey Traum! Excellent performance as always, I can't stop rewatching it, honestly. I just had a thought that it'd be really neat if you personally left a comment on your uploads explaining your own personal thoughts about the piece in question. Like maybe what makes the pieces special, what it's (allegedly) about or inspired by, and what your favourite moments are. I'm personally really interested in your thoughts because often the performer has very unique insights into the pieces he has performed. Hope you give this a thought because I think it'd be really cool! Thanks as always for this blessing of a channel 👍
it's not hard to see why. The first one is far more large-scale than this. Many more themes and variations of themes. This is simply melody A, melody B, then both melodies returning but slightly different, and the return of melody B comes attached with a coda. That's simplifying it a lot but hopefully it makes sense lol. The first by contrast has a much more interesting structure. A lot more to it both musically, and emotionally (which makes sense, because it's also a good few minutes longer).
Been watching this several times daily for the past week. So good. This is SOOOO underrated. That coda is tres magnifique. Right now, it's my favorite coda.
The "anonymous" is in fact a World Class Concert Pianist. Traum only started this channel when all public performances were cancelled due to Covid lockdown.
this is the equivalent to Rappers dropping albums. "Hath thou heardeth thy SPLLLLendid and quite DEVINE!...Ballade of Chopin... MAY HE never ceaseee to deliva such a blessing indeed!"
This piece doesn't get enough credit. I must admit nothing can top Chopin's first ballade for me, but this is exceptional music and another expert performance from Traum.
Chopin easiest classical composer to get into. He knows how to get to peoples emotions. I always recommend his works first to my friends for them to start listening to classical music.
I've never actually listened to the 2nd or 3rd, thank you for sharing! Also, in the future, I would love to hear some Chopin preludes. I'm currently learning them right now, and I know your rendition will be the very best :)

I really love this ballade because of the contrast between the beautifully calm melody and the intense parts. The coda is one of my favorites of the ballades. Beautiful performance! I wonder, will we be getting a performance of Liszt’s Totentanz on piano? 😂 That’s one of my favorite Liszt pieces, and I would love to see it on a visual piano style! :)
In my mind, the Chopin Ballades from most to least difficult would probably be 4, 1, 2, 3. This is all subjective mind you, as each could be classified in the advance level. Great performance as always!
You cleaned house with this! Well done! It's so much better at this steady tempo. Also, by flattening out the voicing in the melody a bit you bring up the middle. It's also less heavily painted by the long standing indulgences of rubato that so many pianists over use. It's clean, fresh, and youthful in its energy! Bravo, maestro! Consider it shared on Twitter.
Just amazing!! Can you at some point in the future please play the Scriabin waltz op 38? It is the most beautiful peace I know and I would so love to see it here. And can’t wait to hear the ballade!
