This kinda makes me sad countries outside europe can't compete in eurovision because trot songs would go down an absolute STORM with the eurovision crowd, especially amor fati!

「트로트」 is music derived from "Japanese Enka" in the era when Japan annexed Korea.
In Japan, it is called "Korean Enka". Enka=演歌
Japanese "enka" is also very popular in Taiwan.

It sounds like how the Turkish or Macedonian/ Serbian/ Bosnian sing in the 70s-90s I think (pls don't blame - I'm 28yo) But also like Indian, Tibetan, and Chinese. Cool :D I love the style of trot-music. Listen to this Turkish song and you will notice that just the language is different but the style is 100% the same: th-cam.com/video/NlycZdca3Ws/w-d-xo.html from the singer Gülden Karaböcek - Küstüm sana dünya
or this one in Serbian: th-cam.com/video/0rdsO-B0I_I/w-d-xo.html from singer Ceca - Kukavica

I don't get the similarities lol
The older "trot" samples sounded operatic, but the later ones (like the one with Daesung) sounds very dancy. But the one with the kid was also vaguely "operatic" with the insane overuse of vibrato and all.
So, like, what IS "trot"? I'm still confused.

  • @muCephei_

I genuinely don't understand the sudden Trot popularity. My mom started watching Mr. Trot during dinner time and I never got into it. It doesn't matter who sings it. Trot still sounds like it was composed by ancient people who just learned that sounds can make "music".

I think trot is quite similar to old songs from Eastern Europe and when watching this video I found myself thinking that trot music would do pretty well in Eurovision 😂

No it's incorrect information. Korean "Trot" and Japanese "Enka" are both came from Korean traditional folk music. Trot is not came from Enka and Enka is not came from Trot. There were many Japanese people who live in Korea in Japanese occupation era. Koga Masao is a father of Enka and he was one of them. He lived in Korea 11 years and he was heavily influenced by Korean folk songs at that time(He admitted it himself). Trot and Enka are siblings who have same parents(Korean traditional folk music).
