    • @Bbeavis

    Jackson Racing had a supercharger kit back in the day that performed somewhat well. Im thinking about buying myself a nice used miata and modifying it as well, but I dont know whether supercharger or turbo.

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in my research, it seems the MP62 offered by FFS was one of the more ideal supercharger options. But turbo is generally always better if you dont have issues with your local laws and you have the time and money to go that path.

  • @josephrevello1595

    Any problems with the air intake so far? I was thinking about this same kit and that's the best intake set up I've seen so far, most people do a custom box near the passenger headlight (RHD driver side)

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No problems. I didn't like the way they ran the intake pipe over the top of the engine, looked odd to me. And being the NA chassis, there isn't much room around the headlight area anyway.

  • @LTE18
    @LTE18 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    HI, do you have any issue with the IAC drawing air from the crankcase? does it have much affect if it was drawn from open air?
    I uses the same IAC but it seem to be leaking abit of air even fully closed. I read it is how the IAC is designed. Do you have similar problem? Thnaks

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The idle isn't great. i think in their latest kit, they now recommend taking air for the iac from the intake hose , after the MAF.
      Im not sure how effective it is working versus 'fresh air', as i haven't tried it any other way.

    Enjoyed the video, fast forward now to 2022 and current gas prices! What kind of mileage do you get when not trying to conserve gas?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Fuel consumption on this car is poor compared to factory.
      1. It runs e85.
      2. Its running boost and thus an increased demand for fuel.
      Thus, its using on average near twice the fuel of a factory car.

  • @shahafmizrahi2040

    aren't those boost level high for no intercooler setup? im thinking of supercharging my car and don't want the piping associated with intercooler but im not sure about intake temp, what's your thoughts about it?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It is a lot of boost without attending to intake temps. But that is why the kit creator includes the 'e-cool' injector within the intake system and after the supercharger, this effectively acts like a chemical/liquid cooler. Sprays E85 into the compressed air before it enters the engine.

    You're going to want a taller rear diff ratio soon. All the extra torque will mean rowing through the gears more often on a 4.40, so I would start looking at getting a 4.10 or even a 3.90. You might even be able to just get the gears and swap them onto the diff and save some cash that way.

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Richard, I completely agree. That's why I have swapped in a 4.1 Torsen that I had spare... I'm happy with the gearing for this power level. The 4.44 was great when the car was naturally aspirated, but with the extra power it made it difficult and less enjoyable.

      I think you will find whether you go either Turbo or SC, the legal and engineering issues will be much the same. In my case, the car is legal with the VVT motor and 6spd swap. But the Supercharger is used for "private road use" only. ;-P

    I've always wondered what one of these kits looked like on a RHD car. Sounds great and a neat install!
    One thing though, is the belt for the SC routed right? Doesn't look like its got much of a wrap around the SC pulley, you might get belt slip. I think the auto tensioner should have the belt the other side of it and be pushing the other way? Just my two pennies...
    Hows the fuel lines holding up?

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mr Lizard, you are correct with regard to the belt, if you see the video again, you will note I actually added a comment to the shot of the pulley, I have corrected the angle of the tensioner and the belt... MUCH better now!
      Fuel lines have been fine, however the little injector clips were a bit dodgy and have been replaced with new ones.

    • @Bbeavis

      The biggest clearance issue i had was between the bracket on the brake booster and the supercharger throttle body. The clutch master wasnt too big of an issue because i run the intake straight down under the SC.

I can't really offer any tips that aren't already well documented on forums like miataturbo. It really is a mostly 'bolt in' swap. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Beavis
    Given that you have SC and Turbo MX5's, which would you recommend for street / hills / motorkhana. I mainly want power in the 0-80kph range. Thanks

    • @Bbeavis
      @Bbeavis  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey roger, i honestly think in most cases a well setup turbo almost always trumps a supercharged car. This is of course a never ending debate, and there will always be some serious supercharged cars out there. But as a generalization, and for the majority of us average joes, It would be easier to get good linear power and low end torque with a turbo and properly tuned ecu with electronic boost control to help it make power low down.

    I have a question. How is this better than bolting on an SE turbo kit? I don't think it's a lot different in the amount of work required. Sure you need an intercooler and drain hole in the sump, but the SE kits are very cheap. And it is reversible, if you ever want to remove it, just like this set up.I think this is great for a road car. But for me the SE bits are a good cheap option. I would like to see how this performs on a track now. Around 1:50 at P.I is my guess. You just need some NB8A wheels and Advans. Will finish the stock look.

      @Bbeavis  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrFlyingmachine I'd rate the FFS SC kit as great, paired with a proper ECU it'd be lovely.
      The piggy back setup is just a bit of a compromise for cost. Spent the extra $1500 or so and get a proper ECU if you want to use it for the track.
      Piggy backs are disappointing because there is an inherent risk with running them, they aren't usually as well tuned nor efficient as a proper tuned ECU.

I'd like to add power to it if I did, and I'm thinking super or engine swap are the best two ways (turbo seems just as, if not more, involved than an engine swap and doesn't seem to give any advantage over super for street). As far as supers go, the FFS kit looks to be where it's at for the miata. Not 100% sure I've found the go-to engine swap yet.

      I'm not sure if you are serious or not, but, no, as per the title, the car is Supercharged.
