    Hey, Family! I know some of you may be wondering why I just didn’t throw down some DE. That’s because everything doesn’t need to be killed. Pill bugs are actually beneficial insects in the garden. They not only breakdown decomposing matter, but they also remove heavy metal ions from the soil by taking in copper, zinc, lead, arsenic, and cadmium. They’re only a problem when there is an infestation like this one. I’d rather try to relocate them to the city’s green waste facility first than to kill them and potentially harm any bees that may come in contact with the DE. Because there are just too many of them and they are causing so much damage, DE has been used responsibly 💚

    Tanya, oh my goodness, I've never seen that many Rollie Pollies in one place, ever! The soil is literally crawling with those bugs, I never knew that they could devastate a vegetable crop like they did your beans. I wish I had an organic solution for you to try, but I haven't had to deal with them in my garden. Hopefully, you'll find an easy way to eliminate them from your garden. Have a good weekend. ~Margie

      Thank you, Margie! About 7 years ago, we came home late one night and our brick wall was covered in something. We shined a light on it and I almost passed out! The wall was covered with them! They were coming from my neighbor’s yard in droves. I had planted a dozen marigolds. They took them out in less than a week! I was bewildered. I couldn’t figure out where my flowers were going. I had no idea they were so destructive! When I found these in my beds, I almost cried! It’s been a month long battle. The lizards aren’t eating them quick enough. They’ve moved into my flower beds. Tomorrow I’m throwing down some DE. There’s just too many of them 💚

    After viewing your video a few days ago, I noticed a Gomphrena flower plant in one of my raised beds had been cut into. I looked around plant and saw pill/rollie pollie bugs. I immediately went into action. I placed lemon peels and cantaloupe rinds in both raised beds. The following day, I removed the bugs with a spade by dropping them in a bucket of water with dishing washing liquid. Because of your video, I hope my actions will prevent a rollie pollie bug infestation. Thank you.

    How frustrating! I was thinking, a wet dry vac would pull them up quick. It would also pull up soil but at least the bugs would be gone.🤦🏽‍♀️ As much as I missed the warmth of spring and summer. I didn’t miss the bugs. I’ll be going out looking for them in my garden. I’m hoping the toad finds them delicious and is eating any that are on the ground. Thank you for sharing. 😊

      Hey, Sis! Very frustrating! The heat and moisture of the soil brought out a lot of bugs early this year. I’ve already had to deal with aphids and spider mites already. Hopefully the toad has been staying on top of any pests you may have. There were just too many of these critters for the lizards to handle. My beds are cleared out of all vegetation now. Getting ready to tear down the old beds and build new ones. Thanks for watching 💚

    Yes, I went to Yt and saw a lady using an orange or 2 cut in half to catch a bunch of the pill bugs overnight. She also experimented with short vessels filled with beer, because she heard that would draw them. They may be great for cutting into dead and rotting wood to decompose it🤓, but you don’t want them with your new plant growth.

    Found your channel because of searching sow bugs. My compost has thousands of them. I just found out what they are... I'm a newbie composter, so I thought they were normal.... I'm going to have no choice but to throw my compost away.😢 I did read that fish love sow bugs, so I may take my barrel down to the lake and just feed the fish..... Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!❤❤👍✌

    • @thebusybrownangel5829
      @thebusybrownangel5829  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! 👋🏼 They are actually good for your compost. They help breakdown decomposing matter. However, if you have an unusual amount in there, it’s probably because your compost isn’t getting hot enough. Make sure you have a good amount of greens and browns (grass clippings, leaves, cardboard, food scraps, coffee grounds, wood chips, etc.) and that you are turning your pile at least once a week. Covering it really helps to heat it up. Hopefully you didn’t toss it out. You can still save it. 💚

    The watermelon needs to be placed with the rind UP and the inside of the watermelon DOWN. The DE treatment just doesn't eliminate enough of the bugs to save the seedlings. Most effective for a big infestation is Sluggo Plus -- an organic treatment. (Make sure it's Sluggo Plus, not the regular Sluggo product.) Also, it helps to wait to transplant the seedlings until they are more mature. I had a big problem with the critters and with the Sluggo Plus and removing them by hand in early morning and at night, I finally beat them.

    • @thebusybrownangel5829
      @thebusybrownangel5829  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello! Thanks for the info. For me, there are too many mixed results on Sluggo Plus being harmful to earthworms. Some test say it is. Others say Sluggo isn’t. Of course Sluggo Plus is a different composition than regular Sluggo, but I’d rather wait until more testing is done. As for the watermelon, I did it both ways to see which way was more efficient. Thank you for watching and for commenting. Have a blessed day 💚

    This comment might just mortify you, but they are edible and known as "land shrimp" and if you Google this you might be surprised with what comes up, you could make something like the shrimp paste they use in Asia with your annoying bugs and instead of them being a problem they would be a valuable resource. That is why they are here like why petit gris snails are here, it is because people brought them as a food and their descendants forgot this.
