Fantastic idea!!! Thanks for sharing. I especially loved the yellow “math lesson” sheet to indicate a new lesson! I’ll be using this for sure with my 1st grader next year.
Love this binder system! This will be my first year homeschooling and I was debating on whether or not I should get a workbox system or binders. I have 4 children ages 10, 8, 4, and 2. Thabks for this video!
I luv it im going to try that this week with my son c how it works out only ? I have is wat do u do with all the finished work at the end of the week do u put it n seperate subject binders or all n 1?
This is awesome! I love the pages to alert them to look to you for direction. Absolutely going to give this a try this year. I’m really focused on encouraging independence, so hoping this helps.
Hi, I will be starting to homeschool my daughter, going into 3rd grade in the fall. I love this idea. What do you do with all the worksheets when she's done for the week? Do you store them in a box or throw them out. Thank you!
She puts finished worksheets behind the divider. When the binder gets too full, I look over everything, pull out what I want to keep in my files and throw the rest away.
A couple questions: what and where did you find the cursive worksheets that aren't cursive first? Also how do you use Abeka language 1 with spell to write and read? I have a first grader that may enjoy that a lot, but can your first grader read pretty well by herself? What do you have her read out loud to you?
Here is the link to the other cursive worksheets we use. (affiliate link) amzn.to/2y9Q11u They are reproducible so I have been using them for years and years with each of my kids. I just photocopy pages I want to use each year.
When it comes to using ABeka 1 with SWR... I read the instructions to my 1st grader and stay close by to answer questions if she needs it. She does one side of a sheet a day. I skip most of the phonics pages and stick to having her do the pages that are for grammar like writing complete sentences, rhyming words, compound words, punctuation etc. There are some phonics pages that I can tweak to match up with SWR rules. I just cross out the instructions and give my own. Hope that helps. Feel free to ask anymore questions you have. Always glad to help!

I just love your videos. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. I just ordered a ton of BJU DL and I can’t find a single Student Guide! Where was this in the packaging? Was it in the student handouts or something online?
Right now I have mine set up similarly but I have a copy of the Video Lesson Guide for each subject in her binder. I also have her DVD’s for the day in the binder and....I set mine up by Day instead of by subject but now I’m wondering if it’s more advantageous to set them up by subject. Why did you decide to set them up by subject?
Janelle Knutson I contacted BJU because I actually purchased 1st grade science (along with the whole grade for k5, 3rd, 4th and some pieces of 7th) and none of them had it (even the 1st grade science). They said they are phasing it out completely. Darn! When I saw this I was like “Yes! This is what I need! Check boxes and specific to this subject and workload.” Womp. Womp. Lol. Oh well. Definitely going to include the video lesson guide and make a spreadsheet like you did. Thank you so much for sharing all of this. You really are encouraging and an inspiration.
Jaimie T thank you for sharing that. What a bummer that they are phasing it out. It was a great help to my 1st grader who was using the DVDs. My other children did not use them as they did it online and there is a checklist online to work through.
This is great! Just a couple questions about your system. Do you have a master binder with master copies? And is this a daily binder you use every day?
This is the binder for my first grader. I have my own homeschool mom binder which I have done a video on. I also have teacher's manuals for some of the curriculum that we use. Hope that helps.
Great set up! We use binders too with little folders that are like little bags with a velcro closure, great to keep a reader or book inside too. Are your handwriting sheets from BJU too?
This year science was half the year and history the other half. To get through all the DVD lessons, my 1st grader did do history or science every day but she loved it with the BJU DL videos. In years past, I have done science one or two days a week and history just a few days. It really depends on the curriculum and my goals for the given year.

Awesome. That is so simple and easy. I will be doing this as well.

Great idea!! Thank you. Where did you get the math fact sheet?
Diane Cajal it comes with the Math U See curriculum.

Not every subject or grade has student guides. They all should have a video lesson guide that you can include for your student to use though.

Is that subject chart printable available on your site? Would love to have a copy!
Yes, you can find it here: www.janelleknutson.com/product/weekly-checklists/

Sheila Theunissen the handwriting sheets are from a curriculum called Cursive First. swrtraining.com/cursive-first/
