Set in the steel yards of Pittsburgh, the film is iconic with characters, music & dance that stand the test of time. Beals and Nouri crush it with a chemistry that's palpable and the dancing is ART. Great supporting cast as well. Lots to LOVE here.
@@lunchablecheese5931 The two leads in FLASHDANCE were pretty much "unknowns" by Hollywood standards but I liked them together. The character of Alex was "18" for the sake of the ballet audition, but her lifestyle as a welder and nightclub dancer felt older (at least 21 yrs.) Am I in favor of a large gap in age? No, but there's some that make it work, i.e. Hilarie Burton & Jeffrey Dean Morgan (16 yrs.) Jerry & Jessica Seinfeld (17 yrs.) Steve Martin & Anne Stringfield (22 yrs.) Annette Bening & Warren Beatty (21 yrs.) Actually, there's surprisingly quite a few. (It wouldn't be for me, but to each their own.)
The water scene, and the cute dog were my favorite parts of the movie. I was 8 when it came out so I just saw it as a dance movie. There were some great dance movies in the 80's. It has to take a lot of talent to dance in heels I cant even walk in heels.Sneakers are the way to not injure ones self😂 Don't forget the leg warmers and leotards sales took off after this flick came out.
Married in 1976, moved to ohio 1980, bought my wife a black one piece swimsuit, her haired curled same as here. But she pass3d suddenly cancer 2020. It ain’t right …. Now I listen to oldies station and Irene cara song comes on. I think of her and this movie and songs
A problem of this iconic movie , which inspired me too at that time, although I was very different from Alex, a piano student - is that the actress who plays the main character is no dancer at all and the engagement of her stunt double hits a lot, too much. The bodies are very different. Better was the performance of the other character, the girl who dances the song "Manhunt".
I was in dance class as a child till I was 17 and I was a 15 when this came out, and we’d try so hard to copy these dance scenes out dance teacher was in shock yelling girls turn that off it was ballet class 😜
The girl who did most of the dancing in the movie was Marine Jahan (French Dancer) who didn't even get a mention on the movie credits!!! But apparently Jennifer Beals herself, made sure people knew who Marine was!
I respect women for being able to walk in such shoes without breaking their ankles and for even making it looking good... . Not to speak about dancing like this although I never have been interested in this personally but from a voyeuristic perspective. But I absolutely have respect for it. And I grew up in the 80s and 90s. Better times than now. Much better in many ways.
Exactly. I was 11 and I remember how I felt leaving the theater- inspired! Inspired to do what, who knows? I'm just grateful I never broke or sprained anything playing "Flashdance" in the yard.
I think it was supposed to be a play on words for the scene as her boss becomes smitten with her as he watches her dance. The song title is correctly noted in the description.
Awesome moves. And it is incredible how women can do that in high heels. I don't think anyone one could pay me enough to be able to do that with trainers on 😅🙃
What is considered a kid's movie these days? I was at a friend's house yesterday and he had whatever was streaming off of tubi, and it was 1986 I believe the movie definitely wasn't made for kids. The wife of Jim Carrey super hot chick. I'm going to check out and try to Google her name and what movie it was. Lauren Holly, just found out how much of a Playboy Jim Carrey was,. Band of the hand what's the movie, and I will say it was pretty graphic but if you're super bored and want some nostalgia, great movie to watch. Even Lawrence Fishburne. I'm pretty sure every Smart TV has tubi on it. I know I definitely got off track on this comment but, age means nothing especially when your past 18 but absolutely get along with your partner.

The moral of the story seems to be about a rich older fella who has the power to advance the career of a flighty teenage girl who knows when shes got lucky!! Sleeping with him is part of the deal it seems! The likelihood of her being a highly skilled welder at 18 yrs is truly absurd! In any event, the films version of a modern day Mark Anthony demonstrates that power and influence allows plenty of older men to enjoy the body of a teenaged girl who in turn wants him to procure for her all the things she cant get ordinarily! The pitbull dog shouldn't have wasted its time salivating over him in my honest opinion!
Yeah in life there are people with connections, who are able to advance someone who is not as established, perhaps someone they're physically involved with, who happens to be a lot younger. However, what started out with lust in regard to Nick and Alex ended up being a genuine relationship. For sure, Nick made a phone call, getting her the audition. Lucky? Sure. She still had to deliver though. She still worked very hard at her dancing, putting in a lot of hours.
Are you a leftie? I ask because you plied the truth to a narrative. The rich older fella is a self made man, she refused to date him at first. And, no moral here, pure hollywood way to build the character and to develop a plot. Finally you should take into account the age of this movie. The movie industry was about entertainment and a bit of implicit propaganda, not exclusively propaganda like it is now. These visuals and music are memorable.
Why is this video called She's a dream? The song is "He's a Dream by Shandi Sinnamon in 1983. I mean I guess she's a dream she Jennifer's body double that no one ever knew what her name was sadly.

It's true. Marine Jahan did all of the dancing in the movie with the exception of the backspin during the audition scene. That was done by legendary breakdancer, Crazy Legs. Still an amazing movie!
The dancing in the movie was done Marine Jahan. In this clip Beals only does the simple things like moving her heels back and dumping the water on herself, shaking her head and the running in place at the end.

I used to rewind 1:15 nonstop when JB’s double pulls the “water chain”. At 12 it was beyond cool to me. Still holds up!
This, and Cynthia Rhodes’ “Manhunt” are the best numbers in the movie, IMO.
YES!
I really loved Cynthia in "Staying Alive"! She was precious and, oh, so talented!
Amazing dance scenes. But it’s really too bad they weren’t able to find a dance double who resembled her a little more. The wig 😱
It’s the 80s special effects 😅
