As a college tennis player, TE4 has the best ball physics by far. The ball feels heavy and fast and the topspin/speed of each shot varies, meaning more types of rallies. FAT and Topspin rallies all feel repetitive, as the ball seems to stay on the same power/spin scales.
Looking for a new tennis game with no dog in this fight. Going purely off this footage, and having watched and played tennis for over 40 years: TE4 has the most convincing ball physics. The ball in FAT skids off the clay as if it is a hard court. Player positions are deeper in TE4, more in line with what you see on clay. Animations of TopSpin are clearly far superior to both, however Nole and Nadal’s serve/groundstrokes are much better likenesses of the real players in TE4 and FAT. More shots hit the net in FAT, more are out of court in TE4. Topspin 4 seems dumbed down next to both.
All of that said, I'd say go for FAT, then later go for TE4 when it's more polished. I love everything but the animation clunkiness. Love that Manutoo did what he was asked and added those little slides and microadjustments from players, but it's all still way too clunky and will be needing a lot of work. Until then, FAT is the optimal tennis game for me.
Hello, I'm the author of the TE series. I have some notes : - for reference, here are the highlights of Nadal vs Djokovic at Roland Garros in 2021 : th-cam.com/video/kA78LV2DIP8/w-d-xo.html - in FAT, Nadal plays mostly on the baseline, the ball doesn't bounce high like on the real clay ; in real, the players often hit 4~5 meters away from the baseline at shoulder height - in FAT, Nadal left/right positioning is silly ; eg : 6:34 : he's often too far away from the middle. This is because in FAT, it's too easy to do very crossed balls, that don't bounce high enough, so to cover these unrealistic angles, the AI has to position itself unrealistically - in FAT, net clearance is too low, leading to too many net faults - in FAT, at 8:15 , Nadal takes the advantage in point and does a very poor net rush that ends with an average passing-shot that is still a winner, while Nadal is as dynamic as my grandmother during the whole phase (*) ; it happens in a nearly identical way 1 or 2 points after ; this is very common in FAT : taking the advantage in the rally (if it was a real match) actually leads to getting disadvantaged and losing the point : this is anti-tennis - Maybe TE4 is unrealistically too fast, but then you should also tell the real Nadal & Djoko they play unrealistically too fast, coz they are noticeably more dynamic than in FAT 😅 (see link above) - Overall, TE4 is obviously not perfect, but at least it doesn't break the spirit of tennis but instead enhances it to make the experience more epic🙂 - As seen in the TE4 example here, the player can barely win a point against Nadal on clay : this is the personal hell met by most players in real life ; if you don't know how to play like the real Djoko, you're going to be destroyed by Nadal on clay in TE4 (and also in TE2013). That is tennis. 💪 (*) All decent tennis fans aged 40+ should get this reference, coming from a sore loser at a Grand Slam, announcing the imminent defeat of his opponent, only for that player to win the tournament a few days after... 😛
@@ivan_2k1 @ManaGamesCom totally agree with you, i love how in TE4 the surfaces feel different from each other and the ball physics are way better as well, but animation wise Te2013 is in another league...
@@ivan_2k1 & @kiliansouc : Personally, I prefer the TE4 animation, because the racket will almost always go into contact with the ball, plus it shows if you're mispositioned, as the more you are, the sillier is the animation, so gameplay-wise it gives a lot of feedback, plus it brings a lot of variations in the anims and we don't feel seeing the exact same anim each time like in TE2013. Thus said, many people like you aren't fans of all this and miss the old TE2013 system, so I decided a few days ago to allow disabling the dynamic animation system in TE4, which should give a result very close to TE2013, but this means your player will be able to hit balls that are visually out of his reach ; I'll try to give the possibilty to partially disable the system, so far ball will still be touched by the racket edge.
I like dream match tennis gameplay much more. It has a timing element by looking at the ball and how close it is to you and it affects direction also a little. Serving is also more satisfying. Pro version is now free too :).
Question, how is posible that TE and FAT get the proper shot swing of each player and other games like topspin with more resources need to bring the player to a studio to simulate de movement in the game?
Sounds in TE need work. Fade them in and out. They come in and stop too abruptly. Also edit them. Slide hearable, even if player stands f.e. . Audience is moving a little in Top Spin during points. In both other games, static. No applause animation in Full Ace. Applause animation in TE exists, but they stop clapping at the exact same time. Only Top Spin has ambient noise of the crowd. Full Ace is better than TE for me, because of the sounds and the looks. ( Full Ace clay court looks best imo, vibrant color, and usage visible ) .
Hello, I think that FAT has more variety of plays, it is more of a simulator and I think the speed of the ball is the one that most resembles real tennis.
Topspin's the best experience you're getting on a console (plus it's aesthetically miles above both TE and FAT) but when it comes to accurately simulating ball striking, spins, surfaces, the sheer pace that pros can hit with etc... Topspin falls woefully short, though the trade-off is that it's far more accessible to the layperson. It's a tennis game for people that don't play tennis IRL, which isn't necessarily an awful thing - tennis is a sport that's both very niche and very difficult to play well.
@@TennisDC99 Oh, I'll happily repeat my initial point that Topspin is light-years beyond both TE and FAT when it comes to anything involving graphics or animation - the latter two simply aren't in the same league. My issue, however, goes far deeper than simply 'ball speed' as you put it - if you've ever watched high level tennis (Open and above) up close it becomes clear that Topspin's shots and ball physics aren't a patch on what TE and FAT (and Dream Match, for that matter) have to offer, even if it looks a lot prettier. For instance, there's very little weight of shot to heavy topspin strokes meant to push opponents off the court (IRL it's more than just a matter of timing), it's *far* too forgiving when it comes to the volley/transition game and on the run defensive shots... and yes, the average ball speed is indeed too low. For a supposed sim experience, it's lacking when it comes to replicating the technical ins and outs of ATP tennis. Now, with all that being said - Topspin is ultimately a far more accessible tennis game because of the choices the devs made; it's just not my game of choice. Apples and oranges. Ideally you'd have TE/FAT/DM on the sim end, Virtua Tennis and Mario Tennis on the arcadey end, and Topspin splitting the difference.
