Namibia Day 10 - Luderitz and Klein Aus

On our drive from Namib Outpost to south-south-west, we enjoyed a scenic journey through the stunning landscapes of Namibia.
The route took us along vast desert roads with breathtaking views of the desert dunes and rocky terrain.
When we reached Klein Aus, we had taken west towards Luderitz, which is a town in the Karas Region of southern Namibia.
It lies on one of the least hospitable Atlantic coasts in Africa. It is a port developed around Robert Harbour and Shark Island.
On the road to town, we were hit by sand storm, which looked alike the snow blizzard in the northern countries.
The sand was blasting the windshield, and body of the car so loud, that we could not even hear the music in the car.
I was also afraid a bit for the vehicle’s paintwork, and was happy that I’ve taken full insurance that covers potential damage from the weather conditions.
Upon reaching Luderitz, we quickly drove around downtown, soaking in the charm of this coastal settlement.
The town is named after Adolf Lüderitz, founder of the German South West Africa colony.
We have passed by historic buildings, colorful shops, and bustling streets, taking in the unique atmosphere of Luderitz.
The town is known for its colonial architecture, including some Art Nouveau work, and for wildlife including seals, penguins, flamingos and ostriches.
After our exploration of downtown Luderitz, we headed back to Klein Aus Vista for our overnight stay.
The drive back to the lodge would have treated us to more beautiful desert vistas as the sun began to set, casting golden hues over the landscape.
But as the sandstorm was still there, we have missed some of opportunities to step up from the car to watch wild horses grazing in proximity to the road.
The Klein Aus Vista lodge, nestled in the rocky Aus Mountains, is famed for its extensive and lovely vistas, best seen from one of the mountain bike or hiking trails, a viewpoint above the Klein-Aus Vista campsite or from the secluded Eagle’s Nest Chalets, where we had spent the this night.
