You've touched a critical point here, as many students on mechanical engineering have chosen this degrees because maybe they are passionate at cars,.so they may be thinking that if they graduate as a mechanical engineer they will be experts in all that have to do with repairing cars, and its not the point, so while going through their subjects at college they get dissapointed when everything they only learn its nothing but math and physic.
Great topic. This video was really needed to expose what engineering jobs really look alike. My math professor says he is sometimes very surprised to see non technical people studying engineering just as they can pass theoretical courses but then they can't go through the practical aspect of technology.
Thanks Steve! I saw this question on so many forums about engineering that it was an easy pick for a topic. I also think many people have the wrong idea about what lots of engineers do so hopefully this helped a little.
Oh yes! I don't understand why these engineers do not apply for technician positions..... One of my classmates is a technician and he was recommanded to enter engineering but he has no interest to do an engineering job.
You really should have over a million subscribers! I'm starting electronic and embedded systems engineering here in Ireland thanks to you. Before I found your channel I was having alot of second thoughts because I left school early and found math very daunting and only worked in technician jobs and on fishing boats haha. Thanks for everything man!👍🤓📚
Watch out for the "program management" type jobs. Companies will look for engineers to fill these roles, but you will be condemned to endless and useless meetings. These meetings will bog you down and stifle your career as your tech skills will deteriorate. Stick with hands on positions! BTW, I have over 20 years experience as an engineer in the auto industry.
Some people like to be in management. It usually pays more money. But yes certainly be prepared for your engineering skills to degrade if you’re in management. You’re just not going to have the time to do it.
but why are companies hiring engineers to do this job ? apparently no engineering skills are needed for those... they could hire someone from another field, and pay him less
@@arnaudj2708 Because an engineer will understand the product and what the challenges are in bringing a product to market. Many engineering graduates will go right to their MBA and go directly to program management. Some engineers will move up to management but many don’t like it. But others do. If you bring a business graduate and then they have to learn the engineering challenges of the business. With some do better than others.
@@arnaudj2708 For engineers, program management is very constrictive position. A person can be pigeon holed in their career very easily. Unless you're an engineer you will not understand. Stay away from program management.
I know this is very late but just wanted to say that this was very thorough and informative and extremely helpful for me! I’m seriously considering engineering and this vid convinced me. Thank you!!
i'm an electrical engineering student, i've held a lot of desk jobs before and even up to now in college. None so far have to do with my major, all i really want in terms of a job is to not purely being on a computer. Building/simulating/designing circuits is still enjoyable to me no matter how i'm doing it, but maybe a few times a month i'd love to be in a lab analyzing things or experimenting with concepts for my application. just to have a bit of a changeup every so often.
I will see if I can put a video together on this because obviously it's not something easy to answer very quickly. From a quick search software engineering, biomedical engineering, petroleum engineering, and environmental engineering are fields that are growing much faster than a lot of other engineering fields. And with software engineering having over a million jobs just in the U.S. I would say that's one of the most in demands jobs out there. But in terms of specifics like whether nanotechnology, electric vehicles, and so on are most in demand, I will have to look into that and can do a video later.
Caribbean Atheist, I can't speak for every single job or company. But if you want to work at a company like facebook, amazon, or google as a software engineer/developer, you will very likely need a four year degree (or more).
Yes MajorPrep, please do! As someone contemplating either aerospace, mechanical, or biomedical engineering, making a video about which fields will be in demand seems extremely insightful. What's your take on these three?
Can you do a video on engineering specializations? Like when you have to specialize in college! Also, can you do talk about college engineering internships etc? :D
can you please do a video on being an electromagnet engineer? my goal is to get a phd in electromagnetic engineering and become a lead electromagnetic engineer. i would really like if you made a video about being this specific kind of engineer. there's not very much info of this one google, or youtube. i'm really frustrated!!
Is it easier to get a job in aircraft structures as a structural engineer than to get a job in civil structures as an aeronautical engineer specialized in aircraft structures?
Me: A CS student Zach Star: many engineers dont want to work on the computer all day and want hands on work. Me: ????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Used The title " engineer " but showed examples of positions that are usually performed by engineering technicians , engineering technologists or higher end engineering tradespeople ....
You forgot military combat engineers, they learn to blow up structures, build bridges, damns, airfields and other tasks needed to support combat operations.
He likely modeled prototypes during the very early years of his businesses. Nowadays his only job is thinking up ideas for the future that can improve human civilization (i.e. colonization on mars), since he has so many people working for him.
sure thing! My email is in the description of most of these videos. You can also contact me through facebook if you like by going to the majorprep page I have.
One of the most informative channels for us ,future engineers. Truly unique. Thanks mate
Thank you! Really appreciate the comment!
favorite youtube channel by far
same, I instantly click every video he uploads
Thanks you guys!

Hey can we connect? I've been thinking of doing electronics engineering also
He's getting close
he has over a million already

This is so fucking true lol😂😂😂. It happens in aerospace industries.

love your channel. really informative especially for engineering students like me. i look forward to more content.
Thanks Adrian!
Please do a video on engineering management/technology majors and how they differ from other engineering majors!!! Most informative channel!
Thanks Zachary! I will try to get a video on that when I can.
Join the MajorPrep Facebook Group: facebook.com/groups/majorprep/
Thanks for the detailled information!
I know this is very late but just wanted to say that this was very thorough and informative and extremely helpful for me! I’m seriously considering engineering and this vid convinced me. Thank you!!
I just don't want to do computer sims all day...
Where does the invention and generation of creative idea happen within engineering jobs?
great video😍
I hope you do a video about photonics engineering😁

0:17 Why does that plane have eyes?
@MajorPrep can I get into the biomedical/aerospace field with a bachelor in electrical engineering?
I have a question, what are the engineering jobs that are in most demand for the future?
Morena Pedro i will to appecite a video sir

What's your take on these three?
Interesting video topic would be what the best way is to transition your focus after entering the workforce.
Thx I needed this info
does failure analysis require calculation and theory?
Can you do a video on engineering specializations? Like when you have to specialize in college! Also, can you do talk about college engineering internships etc? :D
ALLGamingTech&Platforms j
Could you talk about Instrumentation and control engineering? 😊
What's your major Mr. Zach. It seems to have a lot of math and physics involved, I would say you are an Electrical Engineer.
you would be correct
Super video! I applauded for £50.00 👏👏👏👏
I want more videos like this!

Any information on engineering fields that have a lot of travel involved. such as being hired as an engineering consultant or international travel?
Is electronic engineering going be in high demand in the future?
samuel bekele Not sure but I had no trouble getting a job at Hardware development.
samuel bekele no
I think it will because most things in the world will be electronic
request : engineering design proccess
Me: A CS student
Zach Star: many engineers dont want to work on the computer all day and want hands on work.
Me: ????????????????????????????????????????????????????
You are/we’re a computer SCIENCE student, of course you like computer work. Other engineers don’t like that.
can u make a video about the future most demand and indemand engineering
If I was to want to go into computer hardware design then what major should I have
Computer engineering
I don't like sitting on a computer because computers are for playing games 😆
Can you please make a video on Materials Engineering
Yes definitely will!
Used The title " engineer " but showed examples of positions that are usually performed by engineering technicians , engineering technologists or higher end engineering tradespeople ....
Cry
Gonna cry?
Thank for explanation..i want to talk topic about material science
You forgot military combat engineers, they learn to blow up structures, build bridges, damns, airfields and other tasks needed to support combat operations.
Please do a mechanical engineering lab video...please.
Kris Steven no
You should do a video on Material Science and Engineering and the research being done in the field
Materials engineering is coming in a week and a half!
PLANES and spacecrafts defense contracting
inspecting parts
Can you do a video on majoring in statistics?????
Yes we will!
So elon musk probably does PhD level stuff like designing things on the computer?
He likely modeled prototypes during the very early years of his businesses. Nowadays his only job is thinking up ideas for the future that can improve human civilization (i.e. colonization on mars), since he has so many people working for him.
field visits
Vrooooooooom!!!
failure analysis lab this makes since
+MajorPrep Is it possible to e-mail you some questions I have about the engineering profession? Thanks!
sure thing! My email is in the description of most of these videos. You can also contact me through facebook if you like by going to the majorprep page I have.
