You ever swap front bearings? Mine are still good. I'm sourcing everything I will need, since the Rio uses split tapered bearings separated by a spacer. There are 21 separate spacers to choose from, along with a special tool that helps set preload and determines the thickness of the spacer. Soon as it starts singing, I'll be ready.
------ Thanks for sharing this video friend. Today I went to change the engine oil and transmission box my Kia Rio 2002. Notice that if you remove the metal nut, which is to the right of the plastic cover, this allows you to let the air out, and the oil comes faster. I learned today. I subscribe, maybe you teach me things to repair my car by myself. Greetings from Nicaragua!
Thanks for the video but sorry to say you refilled with the wrong fluid. You used a differential fluid with friction modifiers for a limited slip differential, also the Kia transmission needs a GL-4 not GL-5. The GL-5 fluid contains sulphur products that eat up the brass components inside the transmisson.
If the Kia Rio 2002 engine has little oil, does the oil light light up? My car's oil light came on when the oil pump was broken, but now when the oil is low, the oil light does not come on
As for overfilling manual transmissions..."Too much oil in a gearbox will cause the gears to "churn" in the oil more than necessary and create heat which can be excessive and beyond the capabilities of the respective oil cooling system to handle (i.e. oil coolers, air flow cooling over the case, etc) and result in thermal runaway of the oil. In extreme cases the internals can reach temperatures that will cause distortion/melting. "
Did it this way today. My 2003 Rio has 109k. It sure looked like it was never changed. I pulled vent cap off, but I didn't vent it elsewhere. Took about ten minutes to get all 3 bottles in. I put in exactly what I took out. I was trying to find a one way check valve to replace the drain plug. I doubt I'll ever change oil again, due to age of car. One way valve would be the Schnizxle, though.
Awesome info. I also had to replace my rear and front wheel bearings along with both front axles and now in need of a couple engine mounts and have noise in my transmission when I let off the gas. Guess I'm a have to find a good used 5 speed before long. And mine only has 156,000 miles on it now
My Rio has had a low whine when slowing down in gear for as long as I can remember. Probably just the bearings in the trans. Be sure to make sure you have enough oil in the trans as well. I have done some searching on line and I guess there is no real way to check the level. I just put in the required amount of oil...But...if your seals leak then that level will eventually drop causing you problems. I know mine leaks a bit around the shift rod. Probably should eventually pull the trans to replace the input shaft, shift rod and drive axle seals. Will wait until I have to replace the clutch to do that and maybe buy some new bearings for the trans. I know Honda's have issues with their transmission bearings and have a sister in law with a Civic Hybrid that needs a the drive axle bearings replaced. First time I drove the car and said what the??? God awful noise in the lower gears. She said it has always sounded like that. She bought it used. I would say as long as the noise is not too bad you should be ok for a while. It still drives well, but is annoying. Maybe change your gear oil yearly just to make sure you have enough oil in there. Measure the amount coming out to compare with the amount you need to put in. That way you can determine how much it leaked out. When you do the clutch. Send the trans to a good shop to have them replace the seals and bearings and anything else in need of replacement. Or you can tear into it yourself if capable. Better yet buy a donor car and yank its trans apart and get it ready to put in yours.
At the current time to try to keep cost low. Im getting ready to drain mine and I'm going to replace it with 75w90 Lucas that should help with the noise I hope
i couldn't help but notice your rear tire cupping on the inside , mine did the same thing when it needed rear wheel bearings. and it needed them at around 150,000 miles . just a heads up
Good eyes. I was wondering when someone might notice that. I have replaced my rear wheel bearings. My car has always worn the tires out like that. Talked to a alignment tech and he said the camber was just out of tolerance. I would need to install the camber shims to correct. Probably will buy those next time I do the rear wheel bearings. It could wear tires better, but it is not so bad that it wears them out quickly, so I just deal with it.
hi i have a kia picanto i tried to change the gear box oil so undid the top nut to see how much oil was in there and it started to drip indicating it was full so i undid the drain plug which is near to the inspection nut but no oil came out strange so i started the engine and about a pint came out but then i though why is it telling me it was full up on the level nut can you help thanks.
And..."It can also cause to much aeration in the oil which could be more than what the stock breather system can handle, which will reduce lubrication capabilities (foamy oil doesn't lubricate well). "
I have Kia Rio 2002 whene I start my car and stwitch to rear or drive It does not move even I push the gas for a hall way it does not move but it take a while then start moving slow can you tell what 's the problem in my car ......kia Rio 2002 with 84000 miles

Note: This has been working fine. No Issues. Rio now has over 182,000 miles on it...:)

The 12 mm bolt right next to vent is the fill !!
Thanks. I will check that out next time.
Got one with 294,000 km on it. Drive 600 KMs yesterday without issue. Going to change all the fluids this week. Try crack 400,000 KMs.

me podría ayudar diciéndome que tipo de bujías utiliza el carro
And..."It can also cause to much aeration in the oil which could be more than what the stock breather system can handle, which will reduce lubrication capabilities (foamy oil doesn't lubricate well). "
best way is to warm up the oil , and it flows quicker..almost too fast. then pour it into transaxle. been there.....
