*Book Version:* Johnny's thoughts whirled around in circles as he stumbled up the stairs to the rooftop garden, desperate for some fresh air to help calm his tumultuous emotions. "She has everyone convined that I'm some sort of violent monster, but I did not hit her, it's not true!" Daylight bathed his face as he exploded through the door, but its familiar comfort did little to distract him from his dark revelry. "I did not hit her! I did not! I did not! I did not!" he chanted his words in his head as if it were a counterspell that could undo the curse Lisa had place upon him. He sensed movement in his peripheral vision and realized with a start that he wasn't alone. And then he quickly tried to compose himself. "Oh," he said nervously. "Hi Mark."
“Oh, hey Johnny, what’s up?” Mark said, not really thinking about what he was saying. He had been pondering, with the aid of his secret stash of pot, how he was going to make this situation he had with Lisa end without either her or Johnny wanting him dead. Johnny, however, only saw a genuinely interested best friend to confide in. And so he replied, “I have a problem with Lisa, she said that I hit her.” This was a shock to Mark, who now had even more to weigh on his mind. What was Lisa planning, and would it come down on his head? Regardless, he couldn’t let Johnny know.
Lol same but I'm guessing he was supposed to be highly pissed of and I'm pretty sure he was supposed to deliver the Oh Hi Mark line a few more seconds later. Lol honestly, this really is beautifully bad acting.
Johnny: I did not physically assail her with my hand! 'Tis a falsehood! Tis bovine excrement! I did not physically assail her! I did not! Ah…greetings Marcus.

Johnny ascended the staircase, his troubled mind propelling his heavy steps toward the rooftop. The weight of accusations hung in the air, threatening to suffocate him. Seeking refuge in the vast expanse above the city, he hoped to find solace in the calmness of the open sky. With a frustrated outburst, he flung a water bottle to the ground, its echoing crash amplifying his simmering anger. It was then that Mark, clutching a football, appeared on the rooftop. Their eyes met, and in that instant, a silent understanding passed between them. Words were unnecessary; their presence alone was enough to provide comfort amidst the turmoil. "Hey Mark, what's up?" Johnny's voice carried a mixture of relief and exhaustion, the emotional strain evident in his words. Mark responded with a nod, his expression one of empathetic concern. Together, they stood side by side, the rooftop serving as their refuge, a sanctuary far removed from the chaos of the world below. In an attempt to unburden himself, Johnny confided in his friend. "I have a problem with Lisa. She claims I hit her." Mark's brows furrowed, his worry etching lines upon his face. "Did you?" Johnny's voice grew impassioned as he vehemently denied the accusation. "No, it's not true. What's new with you?" Leaning against the ledge, Mark's gaze turned introspective, his eyes searching the distant horizon as if seeking answers from the vastness before him. "Been pondering... Do girls cheat like guys do?" Johnny's shrug conveyed his uncertainty, his mind grappling with the complexities of human relationships. "Who knows? Lisa is loyal to me." Amidst the stillness of the rooftop, their conversation mingled with the distant sounds of the bustling city below. The soft murmur of traffic and the occasional siren served as a reminder of the world beyond their isolated haven. "People can be enigmatic," Mark reflected, his voice tinged with a hint of melancholy. "I once knew a girl who juggled a multitude of suitors. One of them caused her harm." Johnny found irony in the anecdote, his laughter ringing out against the backdrop of the urban symphony. "What a story, Mark!" Mark joined in, their shared laughter momentarily lifting the weight of their troubles. "Indeed, you can say that again." Appreciation welled up within Johnny, and he expressed his gratitude to his steadfast friend. "I consider myself fortunate to have you as my closest companion. And my love for Lisa knows no bounds." Mark's nod conveyed understanding and the depth of their bond. "You are truly blessed, Johnny." As their words faded into the surrounding stillness, the rooftop became a stage upon which their friendship played out against the backdrop of the cityscape. The fading sunlight cast long shadows, painting the buildings in hues of amber and gold. Suggesting a change of focus, Johnny recommended, "Perhaps you should seek companionship as well, Mark." Mark's contemplative gaze turned inward, his thoughts wandering along the winding paths of possibilities. "Maybe I already have someone. Only time will reveal the truth." The wind whispered through their hair, carrying with it a sense of uncertainty. The rooftop, a brief respite from the intricacies of their personal lives, provided a momentary escape from the whirlwind of emotions that threatened to engulf them. Curiosity piqued, Johnny probed, "And what about Betty? Does she still hold a place in your heart?" "No, we have drifted apart. Too many arguments, and our intimate connection faltered." Johnny's empathy flowed forth, understanding the fragility of love and its transient nature. "That's a pity. Lisa and I have our moments of strife, but ultimately, we find our way back to each other." A sigh escaped Mark's lips, his voice tinged with a touch of resignation. "Women remain an enigma. At times, they exhibit wisdom; at others, foolishness. And occasionally, they reveal a darker side." Johnny playfully nudged his friend, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Seems like you have become quite the expert, Mark!" Mark chuckled, his laughter blending with the gentle breeze that swept across the rooftop. "Oh, far from it, Johnny. Love's intricacies remain beyond my grasp." Concern etched Johnny's face as he probed deeper, seeking to understand his friend's hidden burdens. "What troubles you, Mark? You can confide in me." Mark dismissed the inquiry, a guarded expression crossing his features. "It's nothing, really. There's no need to concern yourself." Their conversation intertwined with the symphony of the city, each word resonating with the rhythm of life. The rooftop, a realm apart, served as the backdrop to their confidences, allowing them a temporary reprieve from the trials of their hearts. With a gesture of camaraderie, Mark passed the football to Johnny. It was a silent affirmation, an unspoken reminder of the strength of their friendship. Together, they stood in companionable silence, absorbing the quietude of the rooftop, lost in their own thoughts as the day slowly surrendered to the evening.
Since this is the most hilariously awful and famous scene in the entire movie I would always keep quoting that line and mimicking that action where he throws the water bottle all the time, in fact my siblings would hear me quote some of the lines from The Room over and over again LOL!😂
If they hadn't used a greenscreen (or was it bluescreen) in this scene, and used an actual location instead, it would probably have been dark before he got it right.
Meanwhile Mark attacks his therapist for some reason, yet it is never mentioned again. Can somebody explain why this is happening in the exact same movie as "I did not hit her"?
I remember when my brother first showed me this. I was like “there’s no way this is real, you’re joking, right?” Only for it to actually be real and it was shown in theaters 😂
You’re looking at 32 takes and 3 hours of filming. No, I’m not kidding
That fast??
Totally worth it, one of the most memorable scenes in film history
@@FallenOne3 hilariously amazing

I read that it took them 67 takes
I love how the "roof access" is just a box of corrugated sheet metal.
And everyone leaves to the left…

Dude, you need to write a book. That was actually really good and more then likely how this scene was supposed to play out.

The fact that this scene took him 67 takes to get right and THIS was the end result is scary
But it's a great scene to laugh at nonetheless. Sometimes you just can't go wrong with creativity..
32. The movie exaggerates by going up to 67.
lol
God I want to see the other takes
32 Takes*
I’ve seen this scene so many times for enjoyment that I forgot what’s even wrong with it. This is a moment of masterpiece
Yeah to me it’s just hilarious for the accent, yet a totally normal line
Lol same but I'm guessing he was supposed to be highly pissed of and I'm pretty sure he was supposed to deliver the Oh Hi Mark line a few more seconds later. Lol honestly, this really is beautifully bad acting.
I love how aggressively he throws the water bottle
The water bottle, as mentioned before, gave the best performance in this trainwreck, second by Football, and Doggie in third.
@@fhb3 don't forget Chris R.
And then he suddenly turns more calm with the delivery of “oh hi, Mark” lol

This is the most famous line in all of cult cinema.
The more I watch this, the more I think it’s pure gold.
The fact he didn't know anyone was there so he just announced it to nobody
Tommy Wiseau got some serious drip here.
