  • In this segment of Naval Action Basics, I provide commentary on a 1v1 battle that I fought against [RDMNK] WillieTheKid. This guide is meant to explain the moves I make, in real time, in order to better guide you through the battle.
    [RDMNK] WillieTheKid was using a DLC Redoubtable, while I was using a crafted Implacable. Good fight Willie, I look forward to next time!

    This is the best basic PVP tutorial I've seen--your commentary is superb. The game seems slow paced to the casual observer, but there is so much stuff going on that a good player stays ahead of and plans for.

    Yeah, the chain broadside decided the fight, but the fact that he didn’t repair the hull at all kind of diminished what could’ve been a close match.

    This really useful, I started playing fairly recently and just reached a rank where I can man the bigger ships and hunt some enemies.

      I suggest making an outpost in Shroud Cay and going to the patrol zone. Ships like the Snow and Surprise are relatively cheap to make, and can be used there to learn to PvP. You need to be prepared to die often, and that's alright because everyone does when they first start. The important thing is to try to learn something new in each battle, and to do it in an economical way of course.

    I'm quite new to the game and learning the ropes. Thanks for the video, very insightful and motivating to one day get there. One thing I was wondering, how did you know he clicked "repair sails"? Is it a UI indicator I missed, or is it in the behavior of the sails?

    Thank you for this. As a relatively new player (around a month), this is very useful. Regarding having (and keeping) the wind, how important is the initial tagging?

    • @MichaelSharp667
      @MichaelSharp667  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The initial tag is very important, especially if your opponent is a good player and knows how to use the wind, or if you're fighting someone who will want to use the wind to escape. So you should always try to get a good first tag.

    Sir Sharp, been watching your videos, and they go straight to the heart of what is missing.
    The game got very tossed up, several times during development, as you know, but now I am back, after getting busted to midshipman with cools ships he cannot man, when the game finally released. Therefore, most of the web info is far out of date. So, thank you.
    There was a commercial break near the end, then you come back with, "You may have missed it, but he just accidentally repaired his sails instead of hull."
    What is the indication for that?

    Is there any ship you think excels at 1v1 or ships that can handle higher class ships? I play on the PvE server and can't decide which would be best.

    What would be possible counter-strategy to this style of fight? I can imagine aiming for the sails, stern and getting upwing, but I just started playing this game, so my view is possibly naive.

    Obviously, you have knowledge & ability. I'm curious - were your mods & ship woods superior to the enemy, or comparable? Thx

    • @MichaelSharp667
      @MichaelSharp667  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The enemy was using a seasoned DLC ship that had mediocre upgrades, and I was using an unseasoned crafted ship that had good upgrades... so the seasoned woods helped him, but I think the crafted ship/good upgrades definitely helped my ship in this fight. An experienced captain in an unseasoned crafted ship will outdo a Captain in a seasoned DLC.

    I'm a possible new player and your videos have been most helpful in helping me decide whether to buy the game. I am concerned about being constantly defeated by experienced players. Also, in this community are there many arrogant players who are constantly critical and abusive towards noobs?

      Try to get in with a friend, that will help greatly ;-) another way is to start at pve server just to get the game mechanics and then go to pvp server. Buy yourself fast ships that helps a lot and fear none )

    this video makes no sense to me, when i get the wind advantage the whole reason i do that is so i can make all my turns with the wind which is so much faster than turning against the wind. am i missing something?

    can you pls make some videos how to handle the starter ships to actualy get into some brigg or such??

    • @alanmonday9981
      @alanmonday9981 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The concepts, here, seem to apply to all ships.
      Take fire at angle
      Give fire straight in
      Repair hull early
      Chain to begin
      Double shot to end
      Keeping the wind gauge is as old as naval warfare
      Hope this helps!

  • @GuardianAngle93
    @GuardianAngle93 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My concern with the match is that you gave him your stern on his broadside. Does this game not punish you for the devastating effects fire like that should have?

    • @alexzuev1269
      @alexzuev1269 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Surely does. As he say chain fired from bow or rear will tear apart much more sails then when fired from side to side. Canon-balls will destroy your crew, guns and structure if fired in the stern so his opponent was just too nervous

    • @bencristofani3116
      @bencristofani3116 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He mentioned in the video that the only reason he felt safe to tack and expose his stern was because his enemy had already unloaded their broadside on his side

  • @alviolampis

    How did you know if your opponent is repairing something? 8) TY

    • @MichaelSharp667
      @MichaelSharp667  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to watch their information in your HUD. When you look at an enemy ship, look at the top right of the screen, and you’ll see their armor, sails, and crew. If their armor bars are going up, or their sail percentage is going up, it means they are repairing.

    I'm liking your videos a lot - thanks! One suggestion, your voice over is very quiet compared to both the volume level or the sea shanty in the beginning and to the volume level of the in-video ads. I find I needed to turn the volume up for the voice over and then kill the volume during the ads...

  • @MisterAsshole2U

    I'm very new to the game, and I need to ask you about something you repeatedly said. You stressed the importance of staying "up wind". However, almost every time you said it, I looked at the wind gauge, and the wind was blowing against your bow (tacking through), and he was on your bow. So, it appears he is actually "up wind" of you. If I'm not mistaken, you are down wind for most of this fight.

    • @MisterAsshole2U
      @MisterAsshole2U 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course, the moment I typed this (toward the end of the fight), you are clearly up wind of him. Now I have to go back and check myself.
