I found some tech that might speed up that first tutorial section. By spamming crouch to slide when you get the first Carnation encounter, you can outpace it to the saferoom. The reason why this works is i think when performing a slide it displaces your character a bit, same goes for standing back up after sliding. Sliding down stairs is still faster tho
Use your keys in da lobby bro! You'll get new animations, timers, and background songs! (Labeled CD's. I don't know why.) Edit: It's possible to run past the elkman, but not on lever rooms. Better think insanely fast if it's a jammed door.

like it would be harder to avoid slight but easier to look at heed?
slight has an area of trigger arround the mouse, but heed affects the whole screen, so having 20 fov makes the two of them easyer.

I think the game itself did that to prevent you from reaching the null zone or something like that
a way to counter this would be to teleport you back to a saferoom in (0,0) and unload the previous level as soon as all players enter the saferoom
