I've watched a lot of these so far. One thought strikes me when I see the TH-cam end card. I'd bet Rob and Deane, when the first shot these skits, had absolutely no idea where they would end up one day. He says the quartz watches are relatively new in the video. I'd love to know if at any point they thought one day that video would be sent across the globe as light speed digital information. Two gents as smart as they are, did they consider the possibility of the internet, and what it would become? I know they mention it in a few later episodes but over all, did they, back then, think about uploads, and downloads, and streaming video...... silly I know but it crosses my mind.
No, you are quite correct. There was no thought of it then, and some of our segments showed off new things like the Amstrad computer! As it was, we simply worked on a year-by-tear contract, never even sure if we would be doing the show the following year - for 18 years - Rob
@@CuriosityShow Things like that fascinate me. To see where we were, technologically, to where we are now. It boggles the mind to think of where we will be in 50 years. Whom ever made the decision to go keep renewing the contract has my thanks. I love the skits. A completely unrelated question, if you don't mind: was the show ever syndicated in the US? Say.... 20-25 years ago? I saw the segment featuring the DUCW after I made this comment. I've seen that before on TV, I think. I know it wasn't on TH-cam, as TH-cam wasn't a thing when I saw it. That segment is the reason I started studying WW2 ground vehicles, which is why it stands out to me. Thanks either way Rob.
@@FokkeWulfe , I never saw it on TV in the U.S., and everything I've read about it says it never was shown here. The degradation in the analog conversion from PAL to NTSC would have been one problem. We did have 3-2-1 Contact, on PBS: in some ways, it was better than Curiosity Show; in others, worse. Watching Curiosity Show on TH-cam, I keep wishing I could go back in time and get them to do certain things better and also get 3-2-1 Contact to adopt some of the better things from Curiosity Show. Anyway, an Austrian friend, who I supposed watched the German version in the '80s, introduced the Australian version to me just some weeks ago, and I've been hooked.

I had the same thought. On the other hand, if "cog" is also used to mean "tooth", then "cogwheel" makes sense as way to convey the idea "toothed wheel".
You know this was a good show when even talking about cogs and gears was made in a interesting way!
The Curiousity Show is the 1970s/80s equivalent of browsing TH-cam for science content
