    Wow, I wish I had these videos to help me 15 years ago!
    Never really practiced my technical skills when I was younger but you are clear and efficient explaining everything. Despite playing for a long time (not very regularly anymore unfortunately) I'm still picking up plenty of things that I'd never really thought about.
    For anyone reading this - our brain is our biggest weapon! Practicing with these videos in mind will improve you much much quicker than practicing passively.

      well said mate. I'm 35 now and I've picked up playing football again after almost 10 years of inactivity (and i've played 16 years straight from 6 to 22 years old). you never stop learning, but a good football academy as a youngster can turn you from trash into gold.

    I just got back from the field thinking I need to improve my power and this video popped up within seconds of opening TH-cam. Unbelievable. It also does what I've always hoped a TH-cam tutorial would do: 1) explain what happens inside the boot, and 2) give principles that generalise to my personal shooting style and not to change it. It's quality content and I'm just stunned by the serendipity.
    I've noticed each of these elements before but never put them together or systematically worked on them and remembered for other sessions (I tend to go long periods without practise). It's such a relief to get confirmation.

    I'm the proud owner of a powerful and accurate left foot.. I love free kicks and in my years and teams I've played at.. I took most of the corners and free kicks.
    This was a great video and I'm sure it will help a lot that struggle. That said.. I feel some parts were overlooked so I'll add this:
    "Kick with your knee" Keep your heel back against your hammy until your knee is down to the ball.. and then drop your foot to the ball. It gives a whipping effect
    Arms are not just for balance.. it's your bodys way to counter motion the energy from the twisting movement. Your arms should move at the same pace as your legs!!
    Mihajlovic.. Beckham.. Carlos or whoever.. in slow mo.. take note their heel and knee before kicking.. and that extended opposing arm speed as they kick!

      @@lenninho5113 👍Phenomenal FK taker.. but he's not really one for raw power. Juninho cleverly compensates his slight lack of power with knuckle ball to confuse the keeper in ball direction. To beat elite keepers with roughly 3m to cover on either side is not easy! Kicking is like a golf swing or tennis serve.. focus on proper technique to get consistently accurate first.. having power is a waste without having control.

    If i may i'll add a couple of things. There are 2 aspects of the topic shooting with power, 1: technique, which this video revolves around, and secondly: physical ability like agility and raw power.
    A few tips, the shot i tried to master through my playing days was the Roberto Carlos like all-in style from distance. As a big kid i grew my legs to a huge size(86cm thighs and 51 cm. calves) by doing a lot of accelerations on my mountainbike, i rode that thing everywhere, so those wide tires and always pushing myself to the limit on the bike helped develop quick fibered musclemass. I also had a thing with stairs, i never just did one step, i always did 2 og 3 steps at the time.
    I think an underated thing about shooting with power is agility and flexibility. If you practice thorough stretching after efforts, your muscles and ligaments will gain some length which in the kicking of the ball will add some free movement, which will increase power in the followthrough, also there is the lowering of risk of injuries.
    When i praticed i kicked as hard as i could everytime, that i think also gained power over the years, but could i go back i'd take 5 percent of the top and focus a lot more on technique.
    I got the power up to where i have never seen anyone kick as hard as I could, but my technique was flawed at best. And i could kick so hard that I was afraid of hitting the wall, that was always my main concern! I know as a 17 year old, that i kicked 127km/t that was the last measument of it i know, but at 20 -21 it was much harder, maybe 140-150 km/t. The ball whistled in the air!
    Anyway I could talk for hours about that, but this is getting long, so tha'ts it for me:)

    have not started video, but heard you said right in the beginning, ANGLE OF THE BODY, and i just realized this now at 27 years old. in every sport, in everything, whenever it feels awkward, especially trying to switch sides, dribling with left instead of right, Throwing something with your left hand (feeling like a girl), or whatever it is, i figured out last week, that if i slow down my movements when doing it with one side, no matter if it is hockey, throwing, football or snowboard, i found that if i try with the other side, my upper body rotation goes the same way, making it feel awkward. just by fixing the way i rotate my body, suddenly learning to do anything with the "Wrong" foot/hand, got wayyyyyy easier. been looking for content that goes into detail like that in football for a week now, and this just popped up, so good on you for teaching stuff that nobody talks about, but that is actually more important than most other tips. biomechanics is so overlooked in football, they just say lock ancle and kick at this point in the ball.. Kick how? how do i kick to get power, what does the upper body do, do you counterrotate? when? how do i maximise the snap at the ball, how much do we bend the knee? do you pull the enitire leg back, or just the lower leg, creating more angle? or should we have less angle?... soooo many questions, haha hopefully you explain in your videos, exited to watch now!
    Also, heard somewhere to kick with the knee, and not being able to try it yet, just doing it in the air, it makes alot of sense. THe foot gets sooo much speed when it snaps out at the ground.

    Great video, love the way you delivery the detail. I do some coaching and experience has shown me looking at the target prior to striking the ball produces the optimal results. Lots of people miss the goal or strike the ball at the goal keeper and this is due to either not looking into a corner or looking at the keeper. When we look at a small point in the distance our subconscious works out the distance and location, subsequently it programs our body with the target to strike too. Humans do it all the time - playing darts, playing snooker, throwing a cricket ball (bowling too). Hope this is helpful and please keep sharing your content. 👍

    I've been trying to figure out how to kick that ball for years (I'm 67 and started playing at 22). Read articles and watched videos, and this is the first one to show me where my toe should be relative to the ball. Also the first to tell me my leg should be straight on contact (maybe that's obvious, but to hear it helped).
    It would still help to know how many inches to the side of the ball my foot should be, but I think I can figure that out.

    what about when the ball comes from the side ex. left to right n vice versa where should your front foot placement be like how you said when the ball is rolling foward place your foot slightly ahead what should it be when its coming from the side

    • @thefootballfolk
      @thefootballfolk  ปีที่แล้ว

      I did touch on this a little in the video, but essentially it’s the same thing, place the standing foot so that when you strike the ball, it’s close to the same position every time. It will slightly vary especially if it’s coming across your body, so timing and speed of the ball is key. Sometimes taking a touch before the shot is the only option👍

    as someone who has an obsession for shooting (almost 10 years of semi-pro in germany):
    all of these steps i had to find out myself with the only difference being that i like to use a "floppy" ankle while shooting the rest of the leg still has to be straight and tense tho
    I agree fully with the points made in the video, very accurate and important to place your foot in the right spot

      @@thefootballfolk I have seen the technique I use mainly for knuckeballs; but not the one where they step over their leg and use the side of the foot, more like inbetween the laces and the inside with my foot stretched out in a straight line.
      Mostly for long range (20-30m) and power like near post shots, for closer distances I think it's way more effective to go for low shots into the corners, simply because it takes GKs the longest to get down there (my coaches drilled that into me, but rightfully so).

    One important point you missed is to bend your kicking knee a lot. I used to have much more problems striking a dead ball because I kept my leg far too straight and thus had very little explosion from the leg itself via knee flexion. This meant my inside foot passing was really good as I had the hip based stroke down, but my instep/laces technique was shockingly inconsistent and I could only get lift and power when the ball was coming to me

    • @djfunkychicken
      @djfunkychicken ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think your issue is you're not leaning enough to the side and your body line is possibly over the ball when you make contact.
      If your knee is over the ball it will never go upwards. Try kicking it as you did but push your hip slightly forward and follow your body through the ball.
      Lean back a little more and kicking knee behind the ball if you want it to go high. (gotta get under it to lift)

      @@rizztaker1
      Think of your foot and its motion like a cue stick when playing pool.
      Approach on an angle (about 45 angle) and lunge onto the the ball.. leaning to the side and lean back enough to make sure knee is behind the ball but also try keeping upper body vertical (body shape look like 4 to 5 o'clock) Going on an angle lets your foot contact more of the underside of the ball.
      *Side note*
      The fear of toes hitting the ground takes a while for some to overcome but leaning to the side makes it physically impossible.
      Put ALL your energy and thrust once your foot is a ball length PAST the ball.. and follow through is just as important.. so make sure your 'cue stick' leg/foot motion gives it the upwards direction.
      If you're in a fight.. your hardest kick wouldn't need a run up right? So neither does your longest distance kick.. 1 or 2 steps is easily done.
      Sorry bout raving on.. super passionate for FK's.. Good Luck man

      Same thing?

    • @djfunkychicken
      @djfunkychicken ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rizztaker1 that’s hard to do because you have to kick dead through the middle of the ball.. the ground restricts you from kicking it flat without spin.
      A toe poke style would be the closest way.. but long distance in that manner looks funny

    I've always been a more technical player. Shooting finess shots 99% of the time but they were extremely weak. Sometimes like you said they'd go flying and i would have no clue how. I've watched a few of your videos and i think I'm close to perfecting my technique. My current goal is to replicate the free kick performed by Roberto Carlos.
