i understand that manual gears are a hell of a lot faster but also think it’s about time GT and PD brought in semi auto gear boxes to allow drivers to pick a auto gear box but also have the option to short shift out of corners
I always run manual in GT7 because of that very reason alongside the fact that you have way more control over your car and the fact that you decide when the shifting happens and not the game itself.
Back in the day it was an ability, also to hold in gear and rev it out before you release and the auto kicked in to change up a gear, it was very useful
I agree and having a slight disibitly l find it a bit hard using Manual on my wheel, but with Automatic I am fast but slower using Manual. So if PD brought semi auto gear boxes in GT game, would it help me and with short shifting to save fuel also Doughtinator ?.
Hey Chris, I just finally got an invite for Aston Martin!! After playing the game for about 15 months, I was finally able to buy the Vulcan. I bought the one-77 while I was at it too.
@@Doughtinator I'm close to completion, I only have a few more cars to get. I made a mistake by not buying the Enzo when I had the invite, I bought the FXX which I wanted since day 1 and I got the LaFerrari but I never got the Enzo. In my defense, I wasn't on planning to complete the car collection, this is something new that I just started. I have 10 cars total to get for all 488. I need the McLaren to complete the gr3 category and then 5 legend cars and a couple vgt's like the Mitsubishi, Subaru and the 2 Mercedes. I will buy the 4 last vgt's tonight and I will be right there, just need that invite and a couple cars to pop in the legend dealer.
Manual Trans makes you a lot faster as a whole, for a few reasons: -Fuel saving -Leverage choice and alternate lines -Traction (using short shifts on slick surfaces, etc) -Powerband effeciency (some cars powerbands either peter off early and shifting earlier than auto makes it way faster like the 650s GR.4)
Excellent video with clear explanations/ demonstrations. You said all the licences could be done with automatic transmission. I don't know about that, but I do know there is an endurance mission on Lake Maggiore, and for me, it was just impossible to finish in first place... until I switched to manual gears. And since then, I never looked back.
@robertmcmahon4549 I used to feel that way. "It's just a game. What do I care about changing gears manually? Especially on a controller. I'm supposed to just relax and play!" - But it's worth it, honestly. Even listening to each car on when to shift adds an element of fun/ dynamism.
I have to admit after playing this game for...maybe 2 years?...I never knew you could load the ghosts of the fastest drivers in these time trials. That's a great thing I got from the video.
I'm practicing manual and learning. Trying to get better at it. Just got to try and implement it while racing others. Got my lap time down one second already, though, in qualifying.
Everybody is always saying, "use manual shifting", but that's it. Thank you so much, for actually showing the benefits and how it's done right. It really does make me less scared to try it myself now, even though I'm using a controller.
Not just makes you faster, gives you more control as well, those are the mayor reasons why I learned to shift with flippers, it's not that hard, even if you never tried it, you'll learn it soon enough, you just have to use your ears for the engine sound
I’ll try it. But i need to lower the opponents car volume to hear my car much clearer to know when to shift. The idea of (shifting up) early to prevent the car from spinning is interesting because I usually go for traction control (1) just to stop the car from spinning. Heavy right foot issues 😅
TC makes you slower shifting yo makes you fater you find you can kick out a extra 5 to 10 om in some corners in higher gears takes experience to know were and what corners
I'm setting up a rig at the moment. The problem I'm facing is in vr is the gear stick is on the left or right depending on the car which breaks immersion using my rig.
I use auto on controller especially in long races because my hands cramp up. I do sometimes wish i could change gears mid corner for more rotation and also helps be brake later.I have to use a specific car because certain cars have different gearing and kick down when i need it.I will go to manual when i get the rig set up because i drive manual with my real car.A semi auto would be great PD 😂
I used auto whole GT sport Started manual on GT7, game is much more fun and I'm quicker I recommend it to anyone Biggest difference is on low class cars where if you get stuck in higher gear on automatic it's impossible to speed up
As a petrol head, I just love manual gearbox, be it on a motorcycle or a car. I learnt driving on a manual & haven't used an auto gearbox till date both in real life & game. In gt7, lower the gear, the better the rotation. Auto gearbox does not shift down enough to generate that extra rotation - this one point is the biggest difference in lap times between auto & manual. Few cars do benefit from short shifting but that's not the main point for me. You will lose only 2-3tenths due to that but on corners without manual you end up losing 1-2tenths on every corner. This is just my personal opinion.
Manual gears are fun on the weekends when I'm on my Ducati but I'm glad during the week when I'm just creeping through rush hour traffic that my car doesn't have gears (Camry hybrid). Use the tool for the job. You don't get an award for rowing the gearbox to work.
And I was over here thinking it’s slower if I were to shift again to kill torque as I’m exiting out of a corner when it can actually help manage traction right? Also do you have a video explaining how to implement the torque/hp graphs into knowing when exactly to upshift and when it’s best to downshift to get good torque/acceleration out of the corner?
Yeah sometimes making the car more drivable is faster than the car being powerful. Very much so in road cars. I don’t yet. I need to make that video 👍🏻👍🏻
Iv been playing gt games for years now but always use controller and auto gears (i know i know !!) Got a thrust master wheel for Xmas and will try it with manual paddle change as it obviously is much more efficient
i’m trying to transition to manual when i play now, i find because i only play on my psvr2 its abit harder for me, would you suggest maybe starting off with slower cars and working my way up to gr2/3 when i’m more comfortable in racing with the lower classes sorry if that makes no sense, had a busy day a work and can’t think straight 😂 love your videos man 💪
Yeah man. I understand. Yeah a slower car would probably help to learn. Of the Gr3 cars the Porsche is a great one to learn with. Doesn’t need many gear shifts each lap 👍🏻
I've had this conversation 100 time in real life. Pc game or driving in real life. YOU HAVE MORE CONTROLL OF A CAR WITH A MANUAL GEAR BOX. Sorry for yelling.....it's a touchy subject for me.
@Doughtinator yep your video mentions the auto box is red lining for to long befor changing gears is spot on with real auto boxes. Learnt to drive in a manual and don't like driving cars with a auto box. It's the same in gt7🤤
i understand that manual gears are a hell of a lot faster but also think it’s about time GT and PD brought in semi auto gear boxes to allow drivers to pick a auto gear box but also have the option to short shift out of corners
You’re very right. That would be the ideal 👍🏻👍🏻

I have always used controller and manual on gt6 and now gt7. Its honistly easy. I use r1 for upshift and l1 for down shift.
Hey Chris, I just finally got an invite for Aston Martin!! After playing the game for about 15 months, I was finally able to buy the Vulcan. I bought the one-77 while I was at it too.

I got the Ferrari one recently. I bought them all!! 🤣🤣

My layout on controller was L1 downshift & R1 for upshift cause these layout i was comfortable since im played manual on ps2

@Philly72 Interesting strat. I would try it, but missions don't allow you to earn credits more than once, lol.
@@MartinKusimo just started doing manual and iv been enjoying it,sometimes still easier to do automatic if i feel lazy

Pick a track know and play it with gears until it feels notrmal, it won't take long.
If you have the Dualsense edge, you can map the gears to the back pedals on the controller.
Interesting analysis! I use controller and mostly leave it automatic but it looks like I should switch haha.
For some cars it’s a big difference. For others auto is still ok. 👍🏻
Make the switch asap, it will change your game.
How do you watch the inputs on the ghosts? When I watch the replays they don't show the HUD.
in reply options when watching the replay you can turn on the leaderboard and the HUD

Can u use auto gears in a way that is uses the same amount of gas and gives u the same result?
To save fuel with auto gears you’d need to use the fuel map on the MFD.
@@Doughtinator where is that?
Left and right in the d pad while driving. Scroll until you see the green half circle gauge.

No clutch. Just the panel gears 👍🏻
