Thank you for the video. Very interested in the question: what determines the diostatic number in honey. From the culture from which nectar is taken for honey or from the strength of the family.

Thank you. My bees are showing symptoms of tracheal mites... but they have one other symptom... they are preening each other until the end of their abdomens are shiny black. Does that indicate another malady? I am in Papua New Guinea and your map indicates that tracheal mites are not here... but the K-wing and the wondering around on the ground in front of the hives unable to fly are very much visible. Anyway, I have subscribed and hope to learn more.

Did you diagnose with tracheal mites and how did you manage to treat?

BTW, Thanks Dr Jamie, I am NEW, haven't even gotten my girls yet, learning all I can, waiting for my hives to dry, wanting to be fully aware and prepared when I get my girls... You, you don't only give CHEMICAL methods, you seem to respect those of us that want to be Chemical free, and I appreciate that... THANKS AGAIN

How long do you leave the fat patties in the hive. And how long do yoy leave the menthol in the hive?

So when can you apply menthol? Only in the fall/winter?

I have tested the sugar+vegetable oil patty (as described in the video) on 2 hives, at the end of May.
This remedy is useless since the patties were not at all atractive for the bees !

It sounds like even if it was unconfirmed , but suspected you couldn't go wrong with vegetable oil and sugar treatment.

The dissection is carried out under a liquid because : "To support the soft internal organs of the honeybee." I couldn't figure it out!

I would consider the 'grease patties' a HIGHLY chemical control, as you claim that the bees get covered in vegetable oil simply to mask their scent. Vegetable oil may seem harmless to some, but to others it can be harmful, especially gmo canola oil! I would really hope that the bees' getting covered in grease ALSO harms the mites. All oils are anti-bacterial, are they not? I would assume it affects the mites moreso than just blinding them to bee pheromones.

So don't use GMO canola, I know my stores have no trouble carrying non GMO products... Dr Jamie referenced Vegetable Oil, OMG, there are several thousand that are non-GMO... You seem to WANT to find issues, don't worry love, you can always find something to complain about... but, try being proactive, and finding something that fits your criteria, that also will do the job... we call that improvising...
