Most Cool ! This is a highly overlooked car, but a very good one. Great real world look at the C-max Energy in extended mixed driving. Nice look at NY state too. This thing just beats prius for comfort, handling, visibility, room, and the fit and finish is really nice. It blows my mind when I get in these new fords and they are nicer than Toyotas. Thumbs Up. Thanks !
Thx! I headed up River Road, through Millstone, turned onto the Weston Causeway at Manville, then traveled through South Bound Brook and Bound Brook. Climbed up the mountain to get to Route 78. Tunnel footage is always cool. :)
Really enjoyed the review! The idea of 60 mpg in real world driving is great to know. I was test driving one this afternoon and this vid shows me the potential of gas savings for the Energi, Thanks.
Thx! I'm always looking for different ways to do stuff. Most of the cars are dropped off and picked up in my driveway, but the Fords all come from NYC. I have a media event coming up this month that might be cool to shoot with a guerilla camera.
Thanks! That approach worked well on the Prius C ... you'll see more of that in the future. I'll be working on the Chevy Spark video over the next couple of days.
Greetings, Felix! Yup ... A sync issue snuck in there for a bit. No Academy Award for this one! ;) These long videos take a huge amount of time to edit, render, and upload. I gave up. I need a faster Mac. I'm experimenting with different formats. I would have done more cuts (split screens would have been cool) but there were battery issues with the cameras on this trip. To get back, I walked to Penn Station, took a NJ Transit train, then a local bus, then walked the rest of the way home.
I needed something that is more elegant. I'm OK with Prius and had my eyes on the V5 model and love the all electric BMW I3 Ex.. but lacks distance, on any given day I could drive 200 miles, also I3 was over my budget. My C-Max 2013 is Black and looks even more enhanced with tinted windows. and gives me a more luxury interior, with its double stitched leather, beautiful interior lighting, full vanity mirrors, A/C outlets in rear with a 110 outlet. Each passenger has its own LED reading lights. I love the sound proofing Ford puts inside the C-Max and that Sony stereo system sounds beautiful. . I enjoy the higher riding stance for my older passengers, making it easier for them to get in & out of the car. The large windows help when viewing neighborhoods from inside the car. Love the gorgeous panoramic roof. I use it when Condo's, of course on a over cast day or evening. Lastly this car "BOOKS" when you step on the peddle. The C-MAX has allot of lo-end torque when wanting pass to pass a Semi-Truck; I managed 110 mph on Alligator Alley, over to Naples, FLA. (Don't Advise) I am averaging 38/39, I have managed 44 mpgs.
I had a gut feeling you were in Somerset County, and judging by your comment it seems I was right! I live in Hillsborough-right next to Millstone. Great review as usual
Hi Camera guy here. I shoved myself on top of the Ford C max dash to record this whole ride. My bluetooth butt plug was causing a lot of interference sorry about that
Just to clarify the difference between C-max energi and cmax hybrid, The energi has both the hybrid's features and an electric vehicle's plugin feature? ford's own website does not clarify...
good road test of the hybrid, thanks for posting, i`ve never been a fan of hybrids, but seeing it in action i conceed it might be ok, i live in a fairly busy part of melbourne(Aust), some nasty rail crossings east and west of my house i have to cross daily, at peak times you can be stuck at one bad intersection not moving for 8 minutes :( on a bad day, i like my old ford but in that scenario it wouldn`t be bad to have the hybrid, keep up the good work.
Not sure which I enjoyed more the review or the trip. Tried to follow your course on Google Maps. What was your departure city? Going through the Holland tunnel was neat.
Are you in 2 different cars? The infotainment screen and center controls are different. One car has the little wideview side mirror and the other one has blind spot monitoring in lieu of the little mirror
how many miles can you drive on totally electric.... and how large is the truck ... I test drove the focus ev and did not like the trunk space. thought about the volt but its just seats 4.
Seems like around 28 minutes audio and video aren't good friends anymore :) I think you should do more of those Trips, but please with a splitscreen including the camera facing the road and the standard camera with your face on it ;D How did you get back from NYC? Grettings from Austria :)
That's awesome! I like the standard C-MAX, but love the Energi. If was in the market, I would go right for the plug-in. One of my goals/dreams is to have a big solar array on a carport or barn. How cool would it be to drive on your own electricity? Way cool! :)
Is this a combo review of the fusion and CMax Energi? Great reviews you do but you need to address the discrepancy and video/sound lapse in NYC on this one.
Many thanks for the kind words, Bill McMillan and great suggestion! I've experimented with a sound meter app a couple of times. I need to find a reliable/consistent mounting system.
+MPGomatic I think the camera mounting on / near the window allowed the mic to pick up a bunch of noise that probably is not that pronounced for passengers.
From Greentechgrid dotcom: "in his twelfth and final State of the City address, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg called to make the city a national leader in electric vehicles. He will start with a pilot for curbside Level III fast chargers. More importantly, Bloomberg will change the building code so that up to 20 percent of new public parking spaces in private developments will be wired for electric vehicle charging. The change could create up to 10,000 parking spots over the next seven years."
NJ Transit! I can get to Manhattan and back without a car if I walk a mile or so, hop on a local bus into Princeton, jump on the dinky, then take the NE corridor line into Penn Station. The kicker is that there's a train line that runs through town (the West Trenton line), but passenger service was foolishly decommissioned decades back. What is the benefit of having a plug in cmax vs a regular hybrid cmax ?
Really enjoyed the review! The idea of 60 mpg in real world driving is great to know. I was test driving one this afternoon and this vid shows me the potential of gas savings for the Energi, Thanks.

Great videos you make please keep up the good work.
Thanks for the kind words, +Kevin Novak!
I had a gut feeling you were in Somerset County, and judging by your comment it seems I was right! I live in Hillsborough-right next to Millstone. Great review as usual
Glad to help! I wish I had more time in the car to figure everything out ...
Yep! The C-MAX Energi is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV).
Do you have a Geiger counter in your car?
Hi Camera guy here. I shoved myself on top of the Ford C max dash to record this whole ride. My bluetooth butt plug was causing a lot of interference sorry about that
I liked the splitscreen with 3 cameras you did on the Prius C review. What test car will replace the C-MAX?
Just to clarify the difference between C-max energi and cmax hybrid, The energi has both the hybrid's features and an electric vehicle's plugin feature? ford's own website does not clarify...
It wasn't available as a factory option. Do you recommend an aftermarket unit?

keep up the good work.
My God, its that you Saul from homeland ?
Svt Super veloce 🤣 Nope
Is it the Fusion Energi in some shots? I mean just when you showed the dash board going around the round about.
If you go with Auto EV mode all the road what would it be?
What the MPG will be for 100 miles range, for example ?!
Not sure which I enjoyed more the review or the trip. Tried to follow your course on Google Maps. What was your departure city? Going through the Holland tunnel was neat.
I only shoot 0-60s with new vehicles. However, I would like to work a Ranger into the Ain't Fuelin' series ...
Hey, thanks! Have a great weekend! =)
Are you in 2 different cars? The infotainment screen and center controls are different. One car has the little wideview side mirror and the other one has blind spot monitoring in lieu of the little mirror
I saw that too idk

How did you get back from NYC?
Grettings from Austria :)
if an NYC resident, let's say, wants to get the Energi plug-in, where would said resident go to plug the car in?
That's awesome! I like the standard C-MAX, but love the Energi. If was in the market, I would go right for the plug-in. One of my goals/dreams is to have a big solar array on a carport or barn. How cool would it be to drive on your own electricity? Way cool! :)

+currdog77 Thanks for the support! Had a footage mixup on this one. **** happens occasionally. 😳
I noticed this too! The radio looked different in the video lol
Wait... How did you get home??
Thanks! Great idea ...
I would like to see you use a sound meter in your drives. Particularly with an EV. You do a good job, very informative with real world driving.
Capt Larry Bingo! I now use a lav mic and a sound recorder for audio, instead of internal camera mics for in-car shots. It's helped a lot.
+MPGomatic can you go from 0 to 60 in that old Ford or in any other vehicle?
kjchicago1 I've shot 100s of 0-60 clips over the years. I still have a bunch hanging around that haven't been posted. Which old Ford?
Do more trips videos, when you first collect the car, review, 0-60 and like this, returning the car.
Great video.
I think that you should add in title "61 MPG".
LOL! The roundabouts ..... I always say the same thing LOL! People always do it as if it is a "four way stop sign" intersection.
thank you a lot it was very beneficial

I've realized that I also like to listen Dans voice.
Your provided lulz have won you a subscription, good sir.
thanks but i rather enjoy listening to Dan talk
Test result -> 35:30
If it was, it would have been a complete coincidence. =)

The Nissan Leaf is less confusing to drive.
pls 0-60 ford ranger
