Anna is a hugely important film maker on a number of levels; aesthetics, technique, and storytelling...finding fresh, alternative narratives. Her blog is actually very good too, where she writes on such films as 'I Spit On Your Grave' [1978], mainly unedited notes about the way the whole POV of that movie is male gaze, even the 'revenge' parts seemingly easy on the men in the sense of not being nearly as visceral as the horribly voyeuristic rape ordeal the protagonist herself endures. Anna isn't angry about this stuff so much as just interested in deconstructing it and understanding how it came to be this way. Also fascinating where she talks about the aesthetics of analogue sound and film. Just great. Looking forward to the results of this new project.
