- The USS Lexington (CV-2) was a legendary aircraft carrier of the United States Navy that served during the early years of World War II. Commissioned in 1927, she played a pivotal role in the development of naval aviation, demonstrating the strategic importance of carriers.
Lexington participated in various fleet exercises and operations during the 1930s, showcasing the potential of carrier-based aircraft. Her most significant action took place in the Pacific Theater during the early stages of World War II, notably in the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942. During this battle, she suffered significant damage, but her crew's resolute efforts kept her afloat. Unfortunately, she had to be scuttled to prevent capture by the enemy. The USS Lexington CV-2 remains a symbol of American naval prowess and resilience during a critical period in history.
