  • Thunder, Visitor and Injured Akecheta on Tor-4th Eagle Flies In Area
This day 1/19/25, is an eventful day, with Akecheta showing injuries from a territorial fight (not on this video). We aren't certain when/how the fight happened.
While the video shows Thunder, Visitor and Akecheta (below on the far tor). The visitor takes off and a 4th Eagle is seen flying in front of the camera. Not sure when this eagle appeared and if it also tussled with Akecheta too? So many questions!
As of 1/21, the West End Live Cams are all offline, possibly due to windy conditions. The update today: "Equipment may have been damaged due to winds, a tech will come to look next week. If it is too extensive, someone will come out in February, to assist in repair." (paraphrasing the message by memory)....
A Big thanks to Explore.org, Institute for Wildlife Studies, Cam Ops and Mods, for getting us thru 1/19/25, when we all saw extensive injuries on Akecheta.
Big LOVE and healing energy for our beloved Akecheta. I hope this 4th Eagle distracted the visitor, and both have since left the territory. We will have to remain patient to find out when cams go live again.

If it was winds , wouldn't Two Harbors also be down?

I wonder if the cams were cut to spare us live heartbreaking views.

No. They are down prolly due to high winds. Until the equip is checked, its hard to know for sure. They are in a remote location and there's lots of logistics to get out there to check. They will resolve as soon as possible, that I know for sure!
The cams at West End go down quite a bit, for several reasons. We've missed egg laying and hatches sometimes too. If/when cams are able to go live, they will, no matter the circumstances. I've seen some heart breaking things on Explore's cams, as well as incredibly uplifting things too!
Directly from Explore.org: "EXPLORE is the largest live nature cam network on the planet. We bring nature to you, raw, unscripted, and unedited. Enjoy the natural world as it unfolds in real time in front of our cameras. EXPLORE.org takes you from Kenya, Africa to the riverbanks of Katmai, Alaska and everywhere in between."
I'm gonna keep faith that Akecheta is healing and when we return, things will be okay.

Are they male eagles trying to get to Thunder?

I know the "Visitor" is, by the way he's acting around her. She would be fierce and would fight/chase off, if it were a female. As to the 4th Eagle, am unsure?
