Another fantastic video!! Not sure if you realize it but many of your choices are the most common top 10 choices for Agatha Christie readers -- or what I like to call the most "popular" of her books. So well done!! I think that the only book that is commonly in the top five that you didn't mention is "The ABC Murders" and "Crooked House" is commonly in many top 10 lists. I would not put it in the top 5, but a potential top 10 candidate I think is "Peril at End House".

Grat video Kathi, Agatha Christie was a staple in my house growing up, and after inheriting my Mams books, I'm making my way through them again. David Suchet is the perfect Poirot.
I am so happy to hear someone else who likes Ariadne Oliver. She was so much fun. My most favorite Poirot book is Murder on the Orient Express. I'd have trouble picking and ranking the nest ten.
You remind me of my favourite teacher I ever had Cathy.. she was well travelled and I found her so interesting, we are going back a long time now and I don’t even know if she’s still here but she was gentle to me at a time when others weren’t so much. I think she just got me and when I watch your videos I find them very comforting , like having a cup of tea with a friend. I love Agatha’s poirot too! ❤ i also loved the tv series too they were brilliant I agree!! Sometimes I listen to them in audiobook form now and I have to say I really enjoy that too , have you ever experienced them in that form? ❤
Ps did you see there’s a new book out , some modern writers have brought back poirot and marple … I wonder if you had heard of it , I haven’t read it myself personally but if you got there before me I would like to hear your views on that one
@@NerdyKathi ah yes that can happen too, I understand, they’re not for everyone. it’s a bit frustrating if it does happen that I lose concentration and I have to try backtrack, but it happens to me with books too sometimes. I’d read a sentence , then have to reread it and then maybe still not absorb it, so that’s when I’ve to put my book down for a little while at least. I think it also depends on the narrator of the audiobook, some poirots are better than others but I have to say if you do delve back into audiobooks I would recommend listening to the Agatha Christie ones because they’re a bit like watching the tv series except they’re not leaving out or adapting the story for the screen ❤️ thanks for taking the time to respond to me Kathi and have a lovely evening

I just read my first Agatha Christie book two days ago (Murder on the Orient Express) and then had to go straight into another one (And Then There Were None), which I should finish today! I had to come and watch this to see which ones are your favourites (as I think our reading interests align quite often!) to get recommendations for what I should read next! I really appreciate that you make videos like this that add books to my reading wishlist!

I love this video. I frequently reread her books because they are such a comfort to me and with some of my less reread titles I will occasionally forget whodunnit. Like you, I like Ms. Marple but I LOVE Poirot. Unlike you however, I find Hastings to be such a dear and I find japp amusing. 😅 I have been searching for a mystery author to wow me in the way that Christie did and I have yet to find one.

It was through watching the Poirot TV shows featuring David Suchet that first inspired me to read the books of Agatha Christie in the '90's - although I went on to collect all of her books in the various omnibus editions, Poirot remains my favourite of all her characters. Among my favourites: The Mystery of the Blue Train, Peril at End House, Five Little Pigs, Cat Among the Pigeons, and Halloween Party.

I agree with you, Christie is much more accessible than Sayers. I’m on my 3rd Sayers and struggling to get myself to finish. This one is Gaudy Nights. When I get through it, I might try one with both Harriet Vane and Peter Wimsey equally in it, and if it doesn’t grab me, I might be done with Sayers. I do like Patricia Wentworth and also some of the Mary Stewart books (her place descriptions are beautiful). I’m also reading a Georgette Heyer mystery Detection Unlimited which I’m enjoying so far. It’s nice to see you on again! Seems like it’s been awhile.
I've now read an additional 3 or 4 Sayers books and just met Harriet Vane whom I didn't take to. I think I'm reading them in publication order. I haven't yet decided if I will continue with them. Perhaps as there are only 10 or so. Wentworth is only my list to try and Stewart I read many years ago so may have to revisit soon. Heyer's mystery series are also on my list. @@NerdyKathi Yes, I’m starting to think Sayers might not be for me. It shouldn’t feel like a job to read. Oh I guess you have been consistent and I’ve seen most of them, though I somehow missed that winter one and another. Though I don’t usually watch as much of the ones that are sci-fi (or is some of it considered fantasy?). I just can’t seem to get into either of those genres. I love the mysteries, and the British writers from post WWI until about 1960 (D. E. Stevenson, Pym, Clavering Fair etc.) in addition to some more contemporary writers. Basically I’m reading through the Dean Street Press list. ((I get a little confused as to if DSP and if Furrowed Middlebrow is part of that or another publisher.) But I’ve liked everything from that I’ve read so far. I started reading Georgette Heyer Regency romances last year (I was never a romance reader so they surprised me) and enjoyed your video about her. I guess I should give those other genres another try. But even in movies, that type has never been my favorite. I also had read a little bit of Stewart as a young teen. She definitely does a wonderful job of giving you a sense of place wherever it’s set. I enjoyed Stormy Petrel so much and it was probably her weakest one that I’ve read in terms of mystery or plot. But I loved being put on that Scottish island and meeting those characters. It made me wish it existed and I could be there. (That definitely sounds like fantasy doesn’t it? 😊). I enjoy your channel, it feels like a book chat with a friend.
I agree that reading shouldn't feel like a chore when you are reading for pleasure. I I've read a few more Sayers since the video and like some better, but I haven't decided if I will continue yet. Some genres are not for everyone. I only learned to like fantasy in my late 20s, and I've only recently picked up some sci-fi. I think I simply like trying different things. OMG, Kathie, what a pleasant undertaking to read all of Christie's books! I agree with you , no one writes a better murder mystery than Christie. I also started reading AC in school ....and my first one was And Then There Were None! I was hooked! And also preferred Poirot to Miss Marple, although I've come to appreciate her a bit more as I matured. Maybe I liked Poirot at the time because I was also a Sherlock Holmes fan. For years I avoided reading Curtain. It was just too sad to say goodbye. Although it's not really goodbye, is it? Of the ladies of mystery, I would rank as follows: Christie, Allingham, Marsh, and Sayers. It has been about a decade since I read Allingham and I was at the mercy of my library, so I've not read the first one. Now, I need to reread her books 😊. Marsh I've read much more recently and agree that her books seem to get better as she goes along. As for Sayers, it's been a while, but I recall making myself finish them, not a good sign. Christie by a mile, distant second Sayers (“The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club” is a marvel and Harriet Vain 😉hasn’t made her appearance yet), and Marsh and Allingham are tedious, pretentious in writing style and seem barely worth reading. The film adaptations of the queens, oddly enough, are more interesting and dramatic than the tortuous novels themselves.
I ordered the Barnes and Noble edition of And Then There Were None. I’ve never read AC, so I thought I’d give one a try. I’m surprised that you didn’t mention Sherlock Holmes (other than an aside that a bumbling sidekick may have been an ode to Watson). I just got a beautiful 3 volume Easton Press edition of the Complete Sherlock Holmes, as his stories were my comfort zone growing up. I’ll be interested in reading Christie. I think I’ll try Death on the Nile as my second. Oh, by the way, was did that other title you referred to start with “Ten…)? Thanks!
I've seen another version of And then there were None which I personally prefer. 😊 I didn't include Sherlock Holmes as I was discussing the Queens of Mystery and Holmes pre-dates them. The other title had 2 previous names starting with Ten.
One of the Titles starting with Ten -- I think is totally fine -- "Ten Little Indians" -- the other title is not, which I won't repeat here. You can easily look it up on the Internet -- in fact the Wikipedia article on "And Then There Were None" list both of the previous titles of this book.

"The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins is supposed to be the first detective novel ever. I recently reread it and I loved it. It is one of the first books I ever read when I was a boy. Have you read it? How do you like it? By the way, have you read the "Cormoran Strike series" by J. K. Rowling?

The show is a great inspiration to read the books. Peril at End House almost made my list. Frankly, there are too many to choose from.
