I think it’s more ‘roughen’ rather than rough up, albeit probably grammatically correct. I’d say ‘sand down’ the surface to roughen it to provide a key (for the paint’ . Your command of English is excellent either way and shows fabulous fluency. ‼️

My daughter was painting her hallway and tried to move a one gallon bucket of paint and knocked it over. Most of the paint dumped out. So, don’t feel bad about your shoe😊! Great work!❤

So great to see you in a new video. Your work ethic is amazing. I am not a pro at cleaning, although I used to clean houses for people to help bring in money. I can't remember if it was Bonnie or Barbie who does this, maybe both, but they spray the hard to ckean stuff.. like you did, and then walk away and let it sit on the grime while they wash dishes or make a bed. Then they come back to it and it comes off more easily. Mind you I haven't tried this, but it might be a help. I love ya, girl!
"Sand" is what we call "rub up" :) So, you are sanding the radiator :) Love watching you, Coline!
It is amazing how hard you worked on that radiator...that most of us would have named a lost cause!
You really made that kitchen look bright and cheery again! And I’ve done that before stepping in the paint! I’m laughing inside! My favorite is that long handled paintbrush. I don’t think we have that in the states. You did an excellent job and I’m sure the gentleman is very thankful for all of your help!

I was painting my dining table, had just opened a can of paint I’d been waiting on from Amazon. I moved weird with a chair and hit the full can and it splashed across the wall, the floor and me. It was a HUGE mess. I had a mop vacuum and got a lot up that way, but I still have bits in the wall. (It’s a wood wall) I just need to sit and clean it off.
Finally was able to finish the table and chairs and they look fantastic!!

We say scuff up the surface. Great job. You can also put a sponge or cloth wrapped in sand paper into the crevices; it's easier on your hand and fingers.

Not sure if it was such a good idea to start painting before the kitchen is clean though.
The kitchen is full of flies and other bugs which are inevitably going to get stuck on that fresh paint.

I think to rough a surface, we in the USA just say scuff it. Means the same with the words alone, but the expression ‘roughed up’ usually means to have been ‘beaten up’. I am famous in my circle as the one that ALWAYS ends up with a foot in the paint tray or can..🙄🤭 so I empathize with your shoe! So great so far and I’m excited to see the next improvements in this home🩵🩵🫶

When you rough up a surface it's calling keying, but rough up works too. ;)
Keying is when you use keys to scratch a car. She is "sanding" which "roughens" a surface.

How much does it cost for a gallon of paint in the Netherlands?
I paid $51.00 U.S dollars for 1 gallon on sale from $71.00 U.S. dollars, last week.

You are very kind to go to all the work of painting the radiator and wall in this kitchen! If you plan on painting again, you might like to look up what experts do. I'm definitely NOT an expert, but I have read that preparation is the most important step of all.
*Every tiny speck of grease must be gone. I have heard that "sugar soap" is really good for removing all grease, even though it's a bit old-fashioned.
*The walls must be absolutely dry, so after cleaning off the grease, rinse them with clean water and let them dry.
*Use a "cutting in" brush or narrow brush to go around the window frames, door frames, along the bottom, along the top where it meets the ceiling, and around light or power switches.
*Then use your roller to do the rest of the wall.
*I think the first coat has to be dry before a second coat of paint is applied.
I think your roller sleeve was too "wooly" for this type of job. That kind of roller sleeve is good for rough surfaces, like textured ceilings. A smoother roller gives a better finish on walls.
You did a great job and it looks so much cleaner and brighter, Coline. I'm not criticising you at all! I'm just sharing what I have learned and it makes all the hard work you have done last longer and look better in the long term.

Yes! I came here to say all these things! In addition, let the product do I the work for you. Let the oven cleaner sit on the surface for 2 or more hours and cover with plastic wrap and then the grease will just melt off. Also, a better scrubbing pad would be more effective. I use Scotch-Brite stainless scrubbing pads.
And yes! It looks much better after the painting. 😊
Wondered if someone would mention sugar soap- magical grease cut - through er… must rinse it all well afterwards tho or will ruin the paint and it may peel afterwards
