When Alan Sugar repackaged the CPC 6128 into the 6128 Plus machines, they were marketed to take on the Amiga. He obviously was aware of what that machine was capable of when the rest of the world wasn’t. Great demo.
@Artstate Digital thanks! NoRecess and I are close friends - when coding our demos (he on "phX", me on Logon's Run), we were already discussing about "looking like 16 bits". Actually Condense won! sooooooooo colorful! :D
Totally amazing. Taken over 30 years for programmers to really push the boundaries and demonstrate what the hardware in machines like the CPC and C64 were actually capable of.
the CPC's cubic (yet small) palette is great for emulating larger palettes and transparency effects and gradients etc. this demo does a great job of showing off it's colour capabilities. i'm liking these modern/retro Amstrad Demos. my fav 8-bit machine
Wow amazing - this is the first Amstrad demo I've ever seen. The scene was so niche and back in the old days & there was no internet so althought living in UK I knew nobody who was part of the Amstrad scene.. I got into Commodore 64 scene by chance by meeting someone on holiday. I loved the c64 tho I think better colours and faster clock speed/more powerful processor on Amstrad.. great work Regi Keyz/coder former group Breeze (Commodore 64
Thanks! If you are interested by the CPC history, have a look on the timeline I created with all the major productions sorted by year. I suggest looking at the ones from the last years (especially Batman For Ever), they are as amazing as phX! :) th-cam.com/play/PLsP9IyH3f1U8FEYYcc3wp73fVVGaaEYfs.html
I used to do Z80 programming on the CPC6128, with the Zen Assembler... I'm amazed... I know what I'm talking about. The machine doesn't have hardware scroll for instance, and it doesn't have bitplane graphics either, which would make some of the effects seen, far easier to do than the really are. It's quite an achievement.
There was hardware scrolling in ghosts and goblins and other games. Im also amazed found it too slow to move even one sprite without background destruction :)
just ran it on my newly aquired 6128, and looks AMAZING. - also, out of complete curiosity, is the first audio track inspired by "Infected Mushroom" - Great work, i can watch this all day
Merci encore :D Mes respects.
This isn't typical at all - my young mind would have melted if my CPC had done this. If they can make a CPC do this they can make a toaster cook 3 star Michelin meals!
My PC can't even do this! Never mind the CPC 464 I had 35 years ago! Some sort of witchcraft - lots of clever jiggery peeky and pokery going on here - I remember CALL &BD19 to wait for a screen refresh on the old Arnold - hope that helps!
Merci ! :P
Now the programmers are retired and can do fun stuff. But in 1989 the good ones were busy coding for pc-engine, genesis, 486PC with VGA, amiga, atari STE, Apple][igs, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_II en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acorn_Archimedes en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X68000
Sorry for the laaaate answers. The tools, the documentations, the knowledge... all was different in 1989. People in 1989 discovered most of the hardware techniques used in this demo, but they did not have the "demoscene culture" as we know it today to create such effects. People in 1989 were mostly focused in making better scrollers.

This Amstrad thinks it's an Amiga! Well done guys, that is some kick-ass production!
Exactly! aiming at 16bit now. :)
Getting flashbacks to the 'Eerie Forest: Shadow of the Beast' demo now. Why bother? You've made the AMSTRAD hardware become 16-bit! ; )
@Artstate Digital thanks! NoRecess and I are close friends - when coding our demos (he on "phX", me on Logon's Run), we were already discussing about "looking like 16 bits". Actually Condense won! sooooooooo colorful! :D
tsss don't be so modest :P
Totally amazing. Taken over 30 years for programmers to really push the boundaries and demonstrate what the hardware in machines like the CPC and C64 were actually capable of.
Thank you !
Very impressive!
Love the color palette on the old CPCs. By far the best looking of all its 8-bit contemporaries 👌
This is amazing...Never thought an amstrad was this capable.
It's like the CPC emulates the Atari ST that emulates the Amiga.
Amazing stuff.

Absolutely incredible!! Making the CPC sing beyond what we true believers from the 80s even imagined possible.
AY the best.
Damn. Is this for real? Pure genius...

That’s an awesome compilation. Are all the demos in that compilation available as a single download somewhere? I’d like to run them on real HW.
So this is what happens when you mix ZX Spectrum and Amiga.. well done!!

The CPC actually has hardware scrolling ;)
There was hardware scrolling in ghosts and goblins and other games. Im also amazed found it too slow to move even one sprite without background destruction :)
what effect do you mean? Most is raster bars
Hardware scrolling via the CRTC. You could scroll at 100hz if your screen refreshed fast enough 🤣
Great demo guys!!! Really happy to see the CPC scene is still active :)
just ran it on my newly aquired 6128, and looks AMAZING. - also, out of complete curiosity, is the first audio track inspired by "Infected Mushroom" - Great work, i can watch this all day
Sorry, laaaaate answer. Yes, Infected Mushroom for the beginning :)

Being an ATARI man I'm not familiar with AMSTRAD specs but this demo looks daaaamm good and very colourful too ! Awesome show !
Come on! @s_t_s you're now familiar with Amstrad(plus) since Alchimie! :P
differently from atari: no hardware sprite support. 64 or 128k ram, max 16 colors out of 27, and 3.3Mhz Z80 CPU.
this isn't a plus demo.
in that sense, i probably got apollo 11 space shuttle specs wrong too.
This isn't typical at all - my young mind would have melted if my CPC had done this. If they can make a CPC do this they can make a toaster cook 3 star Michelin meals!
My personal compo winner. Great transitions, fresh tiny ideas that make it stand out!
Thank you !
Merci !
Some very talented coders, artists and musicians out there...Well done!
Thank you
but 1 coder, 1 artist and 1 musician would be more appropriate here loll
Another Wonderful demo on Amstrad CPC !!, Thanks

Oh yeah!!!
Dear Programmers,
Why didn't the programmers of 1989 never made something like this?

Gorgeous and dynamic, well paced and jaw-dropping. Hope you'll win the compo with this.
