crush the backs of those vans multiple ways! thats what i always do wth new shoes that rub there, if you have a rubber mallet, pound on them with that. I know it sounds silly, but thats what a lot of pros do to break them in! lol i went to school for prosthetics/orthotics and learned to build custom shoes and thats one of the tricks they told us about. Might be worth a shot.
Doesn't that ruin the structure of the shoe? I know when my shoes got old and the backs would collapse. They fit better but they always sucked putting on because your had to dig out the heel of the shoe from under your foot.

My last sneaker purchases were from converse and adidas so I didn't really think of it. But damn!! Those shoes hurt so much! Now after breaking them in, I still can't wear them for more than 2 days in a row before my feet hurt. I don't understand the hype for vans :/
