    That is a good donkey , and ideal for working that very rough forest ground . I notice he's got lots of hair , probably his winter coat .

    Where do you find full size donkeys? I can only ever find miniatures in my area. :( I was going to get one for skidding, plowing and kicking coyotes.

    That's really a good willing worker you've got there. How big is he?
    And is the whirr sound you make - br-r--r-r - is that your halt command?

      Thank you! Yes that is the standard "stop/slow down" we use here in Sweden :)

    Great video series. How old is Harley? How long did you work with him before he could perform tasks like this?

    • @leineri84
      @leineri84  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      He was 15 when this was shot. I've had him since he was 10, he was unhandled stallion then used for breeding only. He is a donkey so training didn't take long. It took him a year or two to get the stand and wait to perfection, he could wander of before.

      What a great story! My husband and I have a small farm and looking to see if we could do certain tasks with a donkey. Harley is great to watch and get an idea of what is possible. We would be doing some clearing and planting/harvesting. Our garden is about 1 1/2 acres. To get a tractor that could do these types of tasks would be thousands of dollars and I am not a big fan besides. Harley is such a charmer. Thanks for sharing. :)

      @@georgiashuler1809 Georgia, I have trained my donkey in America to pull my hay cart and do other work. You can read about him on Twitter @homemadeguitars I write about him often and would help you via Twitter. Donkeys are a pleasure to work.

    Amazed you can pull such a big trailer & donkey with the car I'm seeing...!
    Harley is such a good boy - wish I knew how to train my donkeys. Is your harness & halter especially made to fit donkeys?

    • @leineri84
      @leineri84  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The trailer is not very heavy and neither is the donkey. The car is fully leagal to pull the combined weight :)
      The harness is not made for donkeys but is a traditional skandinavian working harness type that will fit anything!
      Donkey training is not super hard. Think more dog than horse and you will se progress, never lose your patience or ask more than you know they understand and are able to preform

      +leineri84 thanks -- I know my donkeys are capable of great things if I knew how to bring it out of them -- Harley is so good! He just waits to know what you want of him - then he complies... Is there a Harley fan club? I want to join! I LOVE HARLEY!! Is Sweden accepting immigrants from the US?
      My ancestors came over from Scona in the 1870s -- thinking maybe it was a mistake....

    • @vispencer7710
      @vispencer7710 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Vi Spencer Scona isn't spelled right

    • @leineri84
      @leineri84  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's spelled Skane but with a small "o" over the "a" (pronounced almost "oh" så skohne :)
      Your ancestors vere very wise to imigrate i'm sure, they made it possible for you to be. There was a terible food shortige around that time, many starvced. Perhaps you should apply to the show "allt for sverige" about americans with Swedish herritage that get to come and to know about their roots. Very nice show has ben on a few seasons now. www.greatswedishadventure.com/
      And btw, Harley wasn't always so well behaved ;)

      +leineri84 THANKS for the referral to that TV show - sounds very interesting and entertaining! Had not heard anything about it - will tell my Swedish cousins to watch it too. I was mostly kidding about wanting to emigrate -- more of a comment on our upcoming presidential election. Very dismal outlook for the next four years -- at least.....

    wow hes a very strong donkey & those logs are very heavy--why not cut logs into smaller pieces instead?

    • @leineri84
      @leineri84  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      two main reasons. One I cant cut the lumber myself spo i'd have to bring someone else in to do it (this lumber was precut and given to me as it was). Shorter lumber is also harder to balance on the sledge.
      Also cutting it in half would double the time it would take to bring it in and thus the effort would actually be higher (including double trips up the mountain to retrieve it). It is rather heavy, but not nearly too heavy for him.

      leineri 84--where do you live? & your donkey is such a good & patient donkey that he seems to do what you tell him to do & he must be very intelligent & smart your donkey & very helpful too--you seem to treat him well--they need alot of care & protection from wild predatory animals in the cat family & are afraid even of regular cats when they're around them--hope he sleeps in a nice cozy warm barn at night with no windows & the door locked with plenty of fresh hay & water for him in the barn.
