Onix Junes hey , could you explain to me what he mean when he says harmonizing with the 5ths? Does that mean the 5th note in each position of the scale ?
joshua Leonard yeah usually when you mention notes as numbers it’s the number of the note in that specific key, for example the “key of C” -C, Dm, Em, F, G, Am, Bdim, C- So C would be the 1, F would be the 4th etc..
Really wish I knew guys like you while I was studying at MI, I think I could have learned even more there with guys like you pushing me to do better. Great rhythmic phrashing!
My experience with Musicians Institute was pretty much the exact opposite of most reviews from students/alumni. I struggled heavily when it came to my studies, and found that most teachers and students wanted nothing to do with you if you weren't already at a certain level on your instrument. The people there really know how to make someone feel stupid when someone is inexperienced or trying to learn something new. I felt very discouraged being there, and found it to be a very cliquish and cold environment. Impossible to make friends or any type of connections. I'm currently stuck in non-music related day job and have struggled to get gigs due to the lack of help and guidance I needed. It seems like administrators only want to hear positive stories about graduates who succeed after MI, and have no concern with those who are struggling. Forget about any type of career assistance or job placement; anyone who receives assistance is someone who can make the school look good and attract new students.
hey Alan, I went there also though I'm guessing you went a lot more recently (I went in 1986-87) so I know nothing of how it currently is. there were times for me that some classes were overwhelming also, but overall I had a great experience and it's too bad yours wasn't good. but I just want to encourage you don't give up I've also had to work non music jobs to supplement my income and have had 9 music stores close that I was teaching at in the 35 years I've taught and currently my you tube channel doesn't have enough subscribers for me to monetize which is frustrating. but music is not easy, set realistic goals and realize it might be years not months to achieve them. in the meantime try to enjoy your playing and don't give up, just about everything you can learn from a school you can learn online. good luck and I hope things are going well for you as I know your comment was a year old

E dali Asato...
Wonderful video, one of the best lessons I've seen in years, and I got a lot out of it. However, I'm pretty sure there's a slight mistake at 1:15, perhaps caused by an edit. He says "I'm gonna start with the fifths" and then I'm pretty sure he plays fourths (which are inverted fifths, to be fair).
I wasn't paying attention there but if you really want to tell listen for the seven chord. If it's not a half diminished chord then he's not playing inversions
QUESTION..This has been bugging me. Like many of you guys Im am trying to learn the fretboard in and out, this exercise of playing intervals is super helpful but I am confused.. When he says he's playing 5ths he plays the C,F notes then D,G E,A ect.. are though's not 4ths?!
take a scale the first note is the first degree second note is 2nd and so on until the 8th which is called the octave. think: do re mi fa sol la ti do is a major scale, mi is the 3rd sol is the 5th and la is the 6th hes playing the scale on one string up the neck and for each note playing another interval from each note's scale and using it to make a 2 note chord called a double stop
@@glennyeah A little late, but I just found this video... So if he's just playing 5ths for the C maj scale, wouldn't it be the same shape all the way up the neck since it's just C+G, D+A, E+B, etc?
in the key of G, the i chord will be G the ii chord will be Am the iii chord will be Bm the iv chord will be C the v chord will be D the vi chord will be Em the vii chord will be F#dim get the idea? :D
I think he is talking about intervals, what he is playing is not a triad, it is a Dyad, which is basically an interval, for example, you take the C major Scale and you count 6 notes, you get to A, so you play C and A together and that's a 6th, then you do that with all the notes of the scale. It is easier if you learn the shapes instead of counting the notes. Try looking for other intervals as well. I hope this may have helped you.
Such a humble guy
I just look for weeks to find a new practice session... i got it !!! Thank's a lot, this guy is a genius....
His harmonies & slides are just perfect♥️
"Its actually really simple..." *plays insanely complex riff*
+Jared P hahahaha indeed i thought the same haha!!
+Jared P // Mateus idea of simple is finger bleeding practice for years..! Sounds great but FAR FROM SIMPLE..!
Actually it is really simple if you know your scales and what intervals are, harmonizing is the easiest part

that was like so fucking helpful damn
how to find the intervals on the fretboard? like M.A
Well its been months i have listened to Mateus' s Guitar solo but trust me this is the first time i heard his voice!!
Really wish I knew guys like you while I was studying at MI, I think I could have learned even more there with guys like you pushing me to do better. Great rhythmic phrashing!
Nice.. Time to practice
MI is the authority on learning how to rock!
grande músico e brasileiro, orgulho Mateus !

E dali Asato...
Showwwwww....
Amazing video. Amazing guitar player!
so awesome! great insight and drills...

this is one of the best lesson I've ever seen on youtube! thank you so much for sharing this video!!
Some great ideas! Thanks for sharing!
this guy is a beast
Great Guitar Sound and ideas !!
Really nice. Respect you!!!
This is very helpful staff thanks
One of the best joke ever by mateus “it’s really simple”
😇😇
very good and a very young guy
Can someone tab this. It's hard to see which strings he's plucking.
he's playing a dmin7 chord. The double stop fills would be a mix of notes within the dmin7 chord(d f a c) and notes outside the chord.
BIG like.
All the best, Asato!
Matues Asato❤️❤️❤️
great lesson there 👍

I was literally freaking out about this watching in 2020. Please let me know if you found out hahahahah
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!! 😭😭😭😭 😎😎😎
esse cara é fera!
Someone should make a lesson video for this lesson video.
BROCOU!
Where did he took the master class?
Which string is the root being played?
its very simple starts using double thumbing technique.. and talking about in depth music theory..
What does he mean “harmonizing with the 5ths”? Does that mean the 5th note in each position of the scale ?
Exactly!
Like (for C3 major), he'd throw some of the following double-stops in the mix:
C3+G3, D3+A3, E3+B3, F3+C4, G3+D4, A3+E4, B3+F4
magic.
where i can get the fisrt backing track?
muito top
you have to make you're video lesson...

4ths are inverted 5ths. You're playing the 5th, but an octave lower.
Several months of guitar lessons in 3 minutes.
Oh my dog, I just realized from looking at Mateus' eyebrows that he's K. K. Slider.
Can someone explain the intervals? 3rds , 5ths and 6ths

@@redxxfour spectroscopes
What amp did you use?
What’s the last chord he plays
Does anyone understand what he meant by Start with 5th, 3rd and 6th? What does he mean by that
in the key of G,
the i chord will be G
the ii chord will be Am
the iii chord will be Bm
the iv chord will be C
the v chord will be D
the vi chord will be Em
the vii chord will be F#dim
get the idea? :D
wait is this what he meant? o.O :3
Rashik Riasat yeah i got what you say BuT what i dont get how he then play triad chords across the neck just by saying 3 5 6...???????????
Yeah that's the part I'm confused about, too
Guess I'll have to properly learn some music theory first :b
I think he is talking about intervals, what he is playing is not a triad, it is a Dyad, which is basically an interval, for example, you take the C major Scale and you count 6 notes, you get to A, so you play C and A together and that's a 6th, then you do that with all the notes of the scale. ❤❤❤❤
can someone please explain this a little more? THanks!!
Reall groove starts 2:47
I believe those are the 4th intervals not the 5th at 1:15
+Nick Antonino descending 4ths are ascending 5ths and the opposite is also true
+Nick Antonino descending 4ths are ascending 5ths and the opposite is also true
what does he mean by he just plays the 5th or 3rd? anyone?
He's talking about the intervals
His right hand technique is very much inspired by John Mayer. .
Does he always uses his pick ? D:
thats is insane like his eyebrows...
what is that intro song? :D
I don't know the title as well bro but here it is th-cam.com/video/DYzZh8lmA9I/w-d-xo.html
