  • How are elephants trained, and how do you train two elephants who have never been separated before? Scott and Kat share insights into the training of Pocha & Guillermina, working within the limitations of enclosure size, weather, and the resources available at the zoo. Relocations are often far from straightforward, and GSE faces severe challenges as they get entangled in a game of politics and personal greed when export permits are withheld, with third parties suddenly claiming that Pocha and Guillermina should remain in Argentina.

I wish for every country to never hurt wild animals again, how a person can dream for such peace. ❤ I salute you all for being the hero we all should be. I really appreciate this podcast.

Saving animals is such a complex business...I'm touched by those that do this hard work. Thank you. I wish that we lived in a world that treasured such wonderful creatures. So much to think about. It's hard for me to know that many live in terrible conditions.

I never realized how hilly the sanctuary property is. It makes me wonder if the elephants traverse those hills at times? Thanks for the podcast. Always interesting and informative. Much respect for what Kat and Scott, and your staff, have accomplished.

This concrete monstrosity still makes me shudder.
Thank you for this fascinating, thought-provoking podcast. I am grateful Pocha and Guillermo had a taste of paradise together. I shall watch this again. It's a lot to process. And very difficult at times. Scott and Kat, Thank You. How you have retained your sanity and determination is unbelievable.

Training to enter their freedom crate is the only training any elephant should have to do ❤

      Indeed.
      Later ....... (Edit)
After I posted this, I had a re-think. No, in fact they shouldn't need to be trained to enter the rescue crate. Why? Because they should NEVER have been in captivity in the first place!

They do really well on being trained for things like medical care. You just have to approach it with care and compassion.

That enclosure is so hard to watch or see. It's that small, and these magnificent animals are huge, and that's concrete which isnt good for their feet. Like us humans our feet sore when we stand too long on concrete, same goes to all animals. Geeez! Pocha 😭😭😭 she endure so much pain. Hi Scott and Kat what's happening to the other Elephants there ? Will they ever be free ?

We are still working on getting their permits approved. We're hoping to see some movement soon.
