My Mother was gifted one on Valentine's Day in 2016, after surviving her Heart Surgery. For a year it just sat there.... then 2 and half years later, it started growing... really growing! Its now a 3 stemmed Triffid, standing over 6ft tall, and, it's taking over my Bathroom. It seems to like being spoken to while we're in the shower, lol, and otherwise pretty much left to do it's thing. It's super special to me now, as my Mother was starved and dehydrated to death in a Nursing Home, in 2021, after she was badly injured,by my vile neighbours, just as Covid hit. She loved it and she'd be so impressed that all this time on, it's still growing....AND ..... that it flowered! It actually developed flowers!!!! ☺

So Sorry hear about your mother. Nobody should have to go through that. Unfortunately, Neglect of the elderly and disabled adults who live in group homes is far more common than we are told.
My sister works in Nursing care. She has worked at several Facilities for elders and several for adults with mental disabilities who need some assistance (They don’t need 24/7 care but still need enough that they couldn’t live on their own). She has yet to find a place that treats their patients and employees like actual human beings. Most of the employees do the absolute minimum and the management could care less. Her disabled patients hardly get visited by their families and the company does nothing to let them experience holidays, didn’t even have any decorations put up for Christmas, not 1 single decoration, not a mini tree or even some lights. Very similar story with the nursing homes. When something is wrong with a patient, management often doesn’t listen to my sister and refuses to send them to the doctor.
I do not think we could ever put my mother in a nursing home when she gets old, knowing what little care and regulation there is I could not let my mother live out her final years in a place like that.

I work at a garden center and we had a tray of these come in for valentines. I definitely bought the one with the visible node sticking out lol :] definitely happy for that find. Glad you mentioned not to dig them out too, and glad not to have found that this year so far.
I'm always honest if people ask about it, like other short lifespan houseplants you can sometimes see seasonally. Wish we didn't sell out of our full vining pots of the Hoya kerii for if they wanted a bigger version. They're quite a bit more expensive (especially the variegated) for the growth potential, but worth it :)
