The 200-600 has been my main landscape lens for awhile. It gives you crazy cool compression that becomes 3-D. Only issue is atmosphere causing poor photos sometimes. Also it might be time to invest in a sandbag to weigh the tripod down haha
So sorry that happened! Once I made the mistake of connecting an umbrella to my tripod for shade. There was no wind blowing and I walked away for a moment and a tiny gust of wind knocked it all over. I will never do that again! I'm very surprised that the tripod legs were not wide enough to prevent wind from blowing that system over. I connect a paracord and adjustable strap to a metal tent stake on my deck and drop it through the gaps and tighten it up to keep the wind from ever blowing my system over at home on the deck. Out in nature people sometimes will hang a weight from the center down under the tripod. My gitzo tripod when level doesn't seem to allow that when the legs are fully spread. Being on unlevel ground and not leveling the tripod might be part of the issue. Best of luck to you guys in the future! Enjoying your videos!
Oh yikes! We might build a second story deck one day. My plan is to build a sturdy tripod base right into the rail. Yeah I think it was a bit uneven too. There's a spot to hang a weight but of course we weren't using it. Sigh.
You did get some nice shots. Sorry about your lens. At least it's fixable. I dropped my D810 one time but it had a L bracket on it and that took the punishment so to speak. So, now I always use and L bracket on my cameras.
Sympathy on the lens damage. Not for nothing, I feel the tripod wasn't set up properly for the terrain it was on. JMHO. Also, maybe hanging some weight from the hook under the head (if your tripod has one) would help. Hope this suggestion helps.
I have been told after a similar case happened to me. If you don’t need the lens hood on take it off when on a tripod it will catch the wind much more on.
I carelessly dropped my sony from about knee high during my Hawaii trip; it crushed the lens body like a beer can. Sigh. Sony is light but the trade off i learned is take extreme extra care. Great images.
Oh no! I was super surprised there was no damage to the camera body! Lots of tears would have been shet. Hope you were able to fix or replace your camera swiftly.
that really stinks your lens got damaged. The sound a big heavy lens makes when it hits the ground (or hard tile floor) is one that makes the heart skip a beat (don't ask me how I know about this...). Beautiful photos. The good news is neither of you were hurt. Stuff can be fixed or replaced, loved ones are far harder to fix and cannot be replaced. A lens is, after all, just stuff. Expensive stuff but stuff all the same. No doubt you can get the lens repaired or worst case, you have to guy a new one. As strange as this sounds, I'm glad it was just the lens and neither of you took a tumble.
Ouch! Nice comeback with the Pano though.👍👍
Thank you!

Yeah the atmospheric distortion is a doozy during the wrong light/conditions. Def need to be more careful to set up the tripod securely.

Glad you are enjoying the content! Thanks for watching!
Wow! Some of your greatest shots, in spite of the tragedy.
Thanks Carolyn ❤️
i like it. you value your stuff. i want buy 200-600
Ouch! I feel your pain. Hope you had the insurance. As they say, no pain no gain. Nice place though.
We are using the Sony Pro Support. Didn't seem like a big enough repair to make an insurance claim.
Oof. Sorry about that lens. Pretty place though. ❤
Thanks!

Ouch! Yeah. He is better about the tripod set up now.
Wasn't surprised when I saw the lens on the dirt under the tripod. Tripod wasn't properly set up and should have been wieghed down with the bag.
Yeah but we don't always want to lug the heavy weight. And he did likely have it a bit wonky. Oh well we were out doing what we love :)

Yeah, hindsight. Sigh.
You leave the lens hood off in wind....pretty basic
Sorry for you guys. The heavier the lens the worse the damage after fall can be...
For sure! Crazy to see an entire screw just gone.
You guy’s probably sold over 100 Sony lenses from your videos. I would hope they would do a free repair.
That sure would be nice!
sometimes you just want to kick yourself...............SORRYV GUYS
Yes! Somehow Steve rallied and kept his eye on that pano.

Agreed!

Thank you! It all happened so fast and with what felt like a minor wind gust. Yes glad we weren't injured. Lens is fixable and in the shop now.
