I highly recommend getting an awl for your next notebook, and maybe look into traveler’s notebooks. The passport size is slightly smaller than Field Notes/Moleskine Cahier, and it protects your notebook without having to make a sturdy cover. There are lots of tutorials for making your own if you don’t want to buy one, too!
The cleanest edges can be made with exacto knife against a metal ruler. You hold the ruler in place and you run the blade against it. And don't press the blade hard, let the sharpness do the work and do multiple passes. You'll get the hang of it.
Nice job on your notebook. A three hole pamphlet stitch is just as sturdy as the running stitch. I use a curved upholstery needle to bindmy notebooks. Kudos to the art and process of making!
Very nice! I personally really liked the look of the running stitch for this, but there's lots of great ways to do it I'm sure! Thanks for watching my friend!🫡
I so, so agree with you on what you are saying about th process. I had been making things all my life and never had I one that was perfect, but I always loved to make them.
Always glad to see more and more people making there own notebooks. I've lived doing it for a long time, being able to make the right book for your needs. I would give a little advice of even cutting multiple sheets at once with a knife too make multiple light passes. It's safer, cleaner and more precise. Thanks for the video. 😊
You can still go through all the edges with big scissors or a knife. If you want lines in the paper, maybe use a light grey highlighter. It's more work but probably worth it.
I'm not surprised that you made your own pocket notebook 😂 I hate dealing with jutting out pages but that's how it works 🤷🏻♂️ Drilling to create the holes is so hilarious 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 Not me getting emotional at the end 😭😭😭😂🤣
I use a metal ruler to place on top of the pages and hold with left hand. I then use an xacto knife along the metal ruler with multiple passes until all of the pages are cut.
The pocket book legend!! Like always super creative shots and angles my man!! The amount of work you put into this is awesome... The art of making, love it!!
For me whenever I make a note book. Making it perfect means making it mine. Also I agree with the first comment consider investing in an awl trust me it's a life saver. And also you don't need that much pressure to cut that many pages of paper. You just need to go over it a few times with just the weight of your hand on the knife. And to make it straight cut along with a ruler, this will help keep the paper straight and neat.
If you make another notebook, add a quarter of an inch to all sides, fold & stich, THEN trim off that quarter of an inch and everything should line up better.
Definitely a good idea! I was too far in when I realized that 1/16th wasn't nearly enough for what I was wanting. Either way, all is good! Thanks for the tip!
I thought I was being a bit extreme when I used nails and a hammer to make the wholes for my notebook, but then I saw your driller and I feel like a normal person again.
Theres different paper weights which is how thick it is, and different paper materials which determine strength and ink saturation, there's also types of inks, like alcohol inks, there's papers that ghost as well there's alot you can do and tweak when it comes to making your own notebook, I personally love The OnionSkin Journal by remy road, they do a good job on hand making there journals and notebooks
@GareTheBear it's pricey, and the paper ghosts(a form of translucency through the paper) but it's a soft creamy color, it's smooth, it has a strength for sure and it has a lovely crinkle sound when you turn the pages or get the pages damp, I bought a journal cut it in half and made a chunky little notebook out of it

Thanks for the tip! I've heard this and looking back, it would have been much better🤣

That's the best part! Can't be perfect, but we can get as close as we can while having fun!

I've seen a lot about this since making this one. I'll have to implement that if I make another one of these!

Hmmmm I bet a grey highlighter would be good for that! Thanks!
Just what I needed
Glad to hear that my video helped you out! Thanks for watching!

Haha, I'm glad you liked it, Dylan!

This would have been better! Live and learn!
What a cool idea! You are very creative.
Thanks so much!!!
I also made my own pocket notebook the previous year and I ended up not using it 😅
Hey that's awesome! That's okay not to use it. Just the joy of making is sometimes all one needs!
Wow! Keep up the good work man, inspiring video again!
Thank you! I appreciate that a lot!

Thanks, brother!! Can't get over that feeling of making things. You just can't beat it!

I've heard this about cutting it this way. Would have been way better, but oh well🤣
Needle related injuries 🤣
🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for showing me the Sharpie S Gel pens! I bought a 3 pack and so far I'm liking them! (Had Pilot G-2 before)
You bet! You'd enjoy my pen ranking video if you wanna see them both in action

Haha I thought it was a great idea! Either way it makes it easy to thread! Not extreme at all in my opinion🤣🤣

Lots of great options! Never heard of the OnionSkin, I'll have to look it up!

Very nice!!!
Mate, you suppose to use a ruler when you cut with a knife :)
Nice job though! Like the idea with the drill! Thanks for the video.
The ruler would definitely have made it better🤣 That's what the comment section is for tho😉
You could just cut Fields Notes notebooks to your preferable size 😄
Personally, I would never wanna cut my field notes all up like that🤣 To each their own tho!
anither beautiful video o7
Thanks Andy! Appreciate that man
Who needs perfection anyway?
But if it works, all he has to do then is to patent/copyright its design, find a manufacturer, and watch the money roll in!!🤔👍
Perfection often helps, but going out to a shop and buying a notebook like a normal person would do is even better.
It's overrated!
🤑🤑🤑
I'd hate to ever be considered normal🤣 Glad I'm not!
I don't wish to state the obvious here, but why didn't you buy yourself a paper cutter instead of all that babble?
Didn't wanna spend the money. Plus all the babble is the fun part😉🤣
Do your research first
Too late🤣
