New MELKOR Discord: discord.gg/nbJQtvbXDg Streaming Tomorrow (22nd September, Sunday) to celebrate Rome Total War's 20th Anniversary! It will be 10-12 hours of me playing Carthage Live! Starting at 8am BST.
Rome Total War came out in Sep 22, which is actually my birthday as well! It's also my cat's birthday on Sep 22, so that's a crazy line-up. Great to see you streaming again!
you know whats an insane change, the WRE in BI has sarmatian auxiliaries in tier 1 stables now and needs only 1 round to recruit, this makes them vastly more powerful
A fantastic guide… for the most part. You failed to mention how on turn 1 you should immediately make me faction heir. It might seem obvious due to my brilliance, but please don’t neglect this very important decision.
I thought I knew nearly everything about this game, then you revealed different factions have different mercenary chances… can’t wait to see you explain it more.
Learn even further that in Medieval 2 you _cannot_ transfer retinue people _but_ you can give items (exceptional steed, spying glass, even the Ark of Covenant) to other family members.
It’s actually good someone is giving Rome 1 some love in this day and age it’s hard to find a youtuber that still covers it , I appreciate that you do cover it
Holy fuk Melkor is back!?!?!? When you quit it made me sadder than any other youtuber quiting. It honestly bummed me out. Glad to see your content again bro!!
My favourite faction in RTW. Big variety of enemies, a lot of playstyle opinions thanks to very flexible unit roster and a big room for historical role play - Carthage has it all
Carthage Sacred band are almost as good as Spartan hoplites but you can get them very quickly. You already have a large temple to baal in Carthage to build, which is 3 turns, then however long to grow to large city, then the awesome temple that is 6 turns. Thats ~10 -11 turns to get an elite unit when the best unit the Romans have is hastati.
A fantastic guide. Gonna make the Carthagenian campain far more enjoyable. Praise you oh lord Melkor for your wisdom has enlightened us yet again. ... MELBACK ? "The world turns. What was may come again. The fate spins webs for men's lives. ... Perhaps."
That "food" - farm boost from temple is great source of income in early game, sure you will need to destroy it later and built different temples, but in my opinion its worth every penny.
@@MelkorGG nice, feel free to message me whenever you decide to start working on that video. I can send renders of whatever units you want or give any details etc
Carthage having caralis is GREAT for defensive players. Rome will keep sending wave after wave to take over caralis. you'll get to enjoy defensive battles over and over again as long as you keep Rome alive. its quite the challenge run keeping rome alive as carthage, but definitely doable. this aligns nicely with the second route you laid forth. this is also good if you want to get better at siege battles whilst on the defensive side. theodokoles is my chosen commander to take up the helm defending the island city.
Carthage is my favourite faction. It’s because they require some out of the box thinking, strong flanks and some weak front lines and if things start going wrong unleash the elephants.
I played carthage on vh vh difficulty and i would say u need atleast 1 unit of elephants in your army just to break morale of the enemy. They don't necessarily need to do much damage but ur infantry just has relative low morale so they will break in long engagements against the roman legions so a good flank with the elephants usually is good enough to route the entire roman lines. They are also very good to fight of roman calvery which as carthage u should be able to go to toe to toe with the roman cavalry but if u have elephants u will absolutely desimate them This means your flanks will always be secure and u wont have to worry about losing a calvery fight to much Ur elephants should preferably be kept in reserve and used as the ultimate moral breaker for flanks On top of that you can siege towns that only have the wooden fortifications the moment u start the siege.
10:04 You just had to, hadn't you? Jokes aside, I've been entertaining a thought that perhaps the god Milqart was Tolkien's inspiration in naming Melkor. Haven't found any indication to a way or another on this matter as of yet, though.
Volume definitely better on this one. In the last one couldn't properly hear. Might just have been my phone but I can hear this one much better. Great content as always though obviously.
Did you know you can actually take Syracuse on the first turn and Messana on the 2nd turn??? If you’re curious as to how, I may or may not have recorded this on my channel and this is by no means a shameless plug (it totally is)
Great video but the Rome AI is so aggressive if you’re on Romes scope you have to fight and destroy them as priority number one. Gaul and Greece are basically forced to conquer Rome from turn 1. Once you have the Italian peninsula there’s no challenge until the Pontic Empire that always seems to form when I play.
@@MelkorGG Very true. I try to recruit all and any slingers from the balearic islands and Rhodes and of course as many greek archers as the game allows. The latter in particular are so worth every penny.
Fantastic guide!!! I'm playing this games for years, but I never got so deep in the mechanics. Looking forward for a new one. I hope you can make same guide for Medieval2.
Awesome temples of Milquart will give your governors greedy traits. Baal and Tanit are good all the way. Tanit is especially good for growing towns. Then replace it with Baal.
Fighting barbarians will take too much time and offer no profit. I'd rather abandon Iberia and send the remaining army to conquer North Africa. Or retake Caralis from Julii.
I know this is OG Rome, but do these guides also apply to the Remaster version? And also if I remember correctly I've heard awhile ago that you have a second secret historical channel. Are there any more news regarding that or is it still a secret for the time being? :)
Welcome back 🎉 How are your other plans for life going? Did you fail in everything else you try and realize you're only good at being a TH-camr? 😏 Is this the reason you are back? 🤨 😅😅
XD Some mistakes here and there, but nothing drastic. My Masters is done, but I don't officially graduate and get my final grade until November. I have a job I hope to go for, which was the point behind my studies, but the spot only opens up next year - so I am kind of awkwardly stuck and a little loss right now - hence the temporary return.
Keep the capital in the centre. If you conquer all of Iberia, yet still own land in Sicily, Carthage is still the centre. If you abandon Sicily, then you might want to move it.

I am in exactly the same boat XD Every time I think I know everything - something else pops up.
Learning something new after 20 years can only be from the true master.
Babe wake up Melkor's back!
Today I learned you can move retinues between characters
me too!
I have been playing this since it came out. Thousands of hours in. I didn’t know either.

The execution square can double as an economy building in far away or poorly governed regions as bonus to law will reduce corruption.
Babe, grab the popcorn, he's returned to us!
Another change in remaster - Sardinia cheese doesn't work, romans attack even without roads. And after that they usually go for Palma
And it seems like Julii tend to get involved into the war with gauls only after talking Palma. So, be careful about that
17 minute MELKOR vid on Carthage lfg!

Dude's alive
I remember I used to scratch my head about how grain imports worked, glad you explained that topic.
P.S. screw the remaster
Hanno has the skilled bureaucrat trait so getting some boost to a city from it would be more wise
Carthage is my favourite faction. It’s because they require some out of the box thinking, strong flanks and some weak front lines and if things start going wrong unleash the elephants.
I love the color scheme... as well as the units even if they are weak.

Seeing your return made me genuinely happy. Welcome back Melkor!

I would like to see this kind of play by play guide for all the factions👍
Welcome back brother. You´re by far my favorite TW youtuber. Will be around watching your vids frequently.

Once you have the Italian peninsula there’s no challenge until the Pontic Empire that always seems to form when I play.
Return of the king
I do love to play Carthage. I just wish they had better missile troops.
I agree. For ranged units it relies too much on mercenaries - but at least you get good mercenaries.

Hail King Melkor!
Nice video
Wait, what?! MELKOR's back?
Ayyyyyy!
Welcome back, Melkor!
Look who's back!
are you ever bringing the ai only campaigns back? I loved those
Maybe...
A idea for a Campaign. A Carthage Elephants only (expect for Generals, maybe mod them). You must build and only use Elephants to conquer
20 years and never knew Retinue could be transfered
Melkor has returned! Or should we call you.. Morgoth! 😱
If melkor does the vanilla faction guides if he looks at mods maybe have a faction guide on those only if he’s interested of course
Holy Rome
He returned
Happy 20 years of Rome Total war!!!

Very good, and it is good to be back - thanks :)

I didn’t know you could give retinues to other characters 😮

Egypt pls😊

Fighting barbarians will take too much time and offer no profit. I'd rather abandon Iberia and send the remaining army to conquer North Africa. Or retake Caralis from Julii.
Personally, I agree and would go the North Africa route, but still the mines that can be built in Iberia are tempting.
