Actually laughed out loud at that first failed ejection test. Something about G.I. Joe just chilling there in the rocket flames, and then your casual “oh dear” just sent me
@@Project-Air yeah, i have been designing a mini edge table seat like this one and i have taken a lot of inspiration from their designs. They make awesome stuff!
Okay, I finished the video and I see now that the sponsorship was about education and job opportunities, not selling ejection seats to the general public.
I normally skip sponsored segments, but I highly approve of this one. I did an engineering apprenticeship over a decade ago and I can't recommend it highly enough! You get paid to learn and don't have any debt at the end of it, plus the added benefit of a qualification and a ladder to progress through a company. Also, most companies will put you with different departments for a time so you can decide whilst doing a particular job if you want to carry on with it afterwards as a career.
Martin Baker must not have had any clicks from the video so they pulled sponsorship. That's just my guess, since an airstrip was needed for the flight, and rural England didn't exactly have airstrips jumping onboard the project to offer their facilities for free use .
I'm sure he could make it more aerodynamic if he wanted to. However, the ejection seat is the "star" of this video and not the plane. Why waste his limited resources if it flies? :-)
I have flown many RC aircraft, but I've never contemplated fitting them with an ejection seat! Good on Martin-Baker for their apprenticeship scheme too. If only they did that 30 years ago... Very cool!
It is so cool that you got Martin-Baker’s attention with this project! Years ago, when I was a training developer at McDonnell Douglas, I got to put together a bunch of stuff on the MB seat used in our T-45... basically, the Navy version of the BAE Hawk. Those seats are quite fascinating.
Although the rockets have a "cool" factor, I think I'd go for a compression spring under the seat (held in compression with a catch that can be retracted via servo). Solves a lot of problems at once (like thermal protection, latency in the rockets getting up to max thrust, imbalance in thrust between the rocket motors, the need for so _many_ rocket motors)
Wow, what a cool sponsor. I'm fuckin' happy for you man, and it's great to see Martin Baker recognizing your talents. People like you are going to make a difference simply by having fun.
Oh. Martin-Baker have discovered something that is essentially a hybrid of the German "Duales Studium" and "Ausbildung" (being university studies integrated with practical experience in a company respectively an apprenticeship). Interesting and quite pleasing. I'm sure it's a great opportunity!
Really pleased to see your thoughtful projects united with the industry pioneers/ leaders in this field. Power to all your elbows and here’s to the future,
Sweet, good one James! This is a fun project, can't wait to see it in flight. The Meteor is almost the perfect test bed for this. Cheers mate, stay well!
there is something special in you james! you make your project , then you make us laugh by cracking jokes on the faliure , you make it again , and you make us laugh out loud by the amazing results
Great Video James, The fact that MB reached out to you is a wonderful indictment of both, your work on here & MB's intent to inspire & train the next generation of engineers. If you need a wingman for the big test, more than happy to bring my EDF Meteor WL419 out to play. Only wish I could have fitted a working seat to it. Been wanting to take it to Chalgrove & see it next to the real thing for years, Plus the rest of my MB fleet, the MB5 & DC3 G-APML.
Congrats on Martin-Baker sponsoring you, what a kick! I love you ingenuity on this project, we use a foil heat tape that weighs nothing here in the US, Auto Parts stores sell it. Tally Ho!
Awesome! This is on my list of project ideas. So hard to come up with an original idea on youtube. I'm glad it is you who stole my idea! LOL 2nd part of my plans.. Make a basic 2nd airframe to produce a video of the craft going down in flames. After a successful ejection sequence of course. Cheers
Terrific! That's one big project just the ejector seat, but to put it into a flying Gloster meteor plane is going to be something else. Just as well Action Man was wearing a crash helmet & no doubt he'll need that & fire proof clothing in the future. Looking forward to the next step with this & great that Martin Baker are involved.
Nice video. But you have to be careful with one very important point. The ejection of the miniature could greatly modify your centre of gravity once in flight, which could lead to the crash of the plane
What if you where to make a torpedo that you drop from a rc plane,You could use a EDF,a brushless rc motor,or a model rocket engine to propel when it is dropped into the water.(i have always wanted to make one :)
personally with multiple motor ignitions and an ejection or stores, rockets or seats i would place each motor into a interconnected tube system so they all feed a common pressure into the pipes and they all operate like air pistons with only the top connected to the seat. this balances the ejection forces as pistons to low pressure and dont rely on the motors getting up to full thrust at different times.
Entertaining as always. Keep the 'stuff' coming. One thing. Superb laser cutter, fancy equipment etc then you use needle nose pliers to tighten those nuts. Oh no. Please use a correct size socket or a spanner (that's the ex aircraft engineer in me talking). Keep up the superb content. : )
Congratulations! will there be a sequel????? very interesting to see the system in the air, how the manikin will eject, what will come of it, and the parachute handling. I'm designing and testing my own ejection system for 1/6 scale models, I use a system of tethered rmains and their detachment at a certain height after which a rescue parachute is deployed.
Watch Martin Baker's Historical Video, presented by Desmond Llewellyn and shot at the Central Fighter Establishment, here at RAF West Raynham. Love your project.👍
First YT sponsor I haven’t immediately skipped through in months if not years lol
huge same, wish a company in the US had a program like that!
Same here- they really hit their target audience
yeah all same might look into working with them here in the near future
same
This has to be the coolest and most relevant sponsorship ever. Someone finally figured out what we might actually be interested in!
10000 times better than raid shadow legends
@@LUIZ-vc3hg I think all those memes were astroturf to get people repeating the name of their game for free.
Now that's a sponsorship :D
Actually laughed out loud at that first failed ejection test. Something about G.I. Joe just chilling there in the rocket flames, and then your casual “oh dear” just sent me
O dea
and the little oofs when he gets a hard landing
Action Man, not GI Joe.
HOW DID YOU GET SPONSORED BY MARTIN BAKER.
THIS IS AWESOME!!!
I think someone's getting a *_sweet_* internship. 😃 Love watching worthy people succeed!
They're an awesome company!
@@Project-Air no cap

@@Project-Air they have an extraordinary history... 👍🏼 🇬🇧

Please make Part 3. My son has autism and loves ejection seats. He would love to make one like this.
Hands down the coolest integrated advertisement I have ever seen on TH-cam.
I hope to see the Action Man is awarded a medal for bravery in the future video.
After landing on his nogging a few times - Cannot be good for the grey matter !
He certainly deserves that medal !
Awesome! I'm glad you got sponsored by Martin Baker - they are my first choice in aircraft ejection seats.
Okay, I finished the video and I see now that the sponsorship was about education and job opportunities, not selling ejection seats to the general public.
I am eagerly awaiting the third video in this series.
Always a good day when James uploads a ProjectAir video, especially when it's sponsored by Martin Baker
Fact
True
Try using the rods like on Soviet ejection seats for stabilization

what happened to this project?
Martin Baker must not have had any clicks from the video so they pulled sponsorship. That's just my guess, since an airstrip was needed for the flight, and rural England didn't exactly have airstrips jumping onboard the project to offer their facilities for free use .
Ok that has to be the first time I have been actually interested in a sponsored ad, I mean! ID LOVE TO APPLY!
In my aerospace afficionados eyes, Martin Baker sponsoring is a f...g holy grail of sponsorships!
THE VIDEO IS HERE YAAAY MAKES MY DAY!!
Me too
Why are the leading edges of jet engine hubs so...... have the aerodynamics of a brick?:)
Ikr...makes the aerodynamist in me shrivel like a frozen scrotum.
I imagine on that scale it's not of much consequence.
I'm sure he could make it more aerodynamic if he wanted to. However, the ejection seat is the "star" of this video and not the plane. Why waste his limited resources if it flies? :-)
Because it isn't finished yet

VERY..VERY..COOL. Nice to hear what Martin Baker does too... Great Sponsorship
Man, this is by far the coolest and most relevant sponsorship ever!
Loved the Martin Baker sponsorship
Shoutout to Martin Baker. If you told me you work for Martin Baker I would think first and foremost, ‘respect’.
Great to hear Martin Baker got involved.
Wow this is like a NASA project! Cool 👍

Oh my god, a real ejection seat company Marin-Baker for the sponsor in this video! THIS IS AWESOME!!!
Right?! :)
Great stuff. Awesome that Martin-Baker picked up on your project and supported it!
now that landing gear retraction was the greatest thing ive seen on this channel
Props to Martin Baker for being so cool and sponsoring this video

What I love about this lad is there’s no click bait lol brilliant video and also fair play to Martin baker for getting involved.
Also love how the Meteor came out
Such a great builder and inspiring young engineer...
Loving your Action Mans 'Airmans Tash' !
Dressed for the part I see ! 👍 Chocks away !
You should build a solid rocket motor powered x-15 that could be dropped from a RC plane or drone. That would be so cool!!
I love your innovative thinking and ‘can do’ approach!
still waiting for part 3 :/
Stan the Action Man back again!
What a wild sponsorship. That's awesome.
Martin-Baker Ad be like: IF U EVER NEED AN EJECTION SEAT...
Maybe they can hook me up with a passenger seat.
Yes! I’ve been waiting patiently for this!

Gratz for the cool sponsorship!
I think the rockets should be mounted further back to align them better wit the CG of the seat/actionman system ^^
Looking forward to seeing the end result of your hard work. Thanks for letting us in.

That's crazy, my dad works for Martin Baker America, has been since around '99 or 2000.
An ejection seat that catches the pilot on fire is a bold strategy.
Thats seriously cool to be sponsored by them.

Can you get a little martin baker tie club tie for the pilot?
Thank you James for inspiring me to do Aerospace Engineering for college. all of your videos are amazing and i hope you keep up the amazing work
Best of luck with it!

Awesome project. Great job
That pilot looks like Benny Lynch!
Good knowledge, respecting that!
That’s if you meant Bernard Lynch the live subject of MB seats and not the comedian and showman
He went by 'Benny'.
Watch Martin Baker's Historical Video, presented by Desmond Llewellyn and shot at the Central Fighter Establishment, here at RAF West Raynham.
Love your project.👍
The Desmond Llewelyn videos are great. I love the black and white MBA films and the classic British accent from that period in time.
Where is part 3 btw great video mate
Great video 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
You should try buying extra ignitors, I think the serious rocket guys double them up for better reliability.
Sick video!! please consider optimising the air intake part of the engine housing idk much but those 90º angles look counter-intuitive
