A new glitch was discovered that allows you to modify your config file to turn pets into unexpected entities. This includes the Olmec ship, which can sometimes work, and other times crash your game... Today we found a setup that works on 1-1, allowing you to enter Sunken City in less than a second optimally. This seed had a good enough Sunken City to secure a completely ridiculous sub 2:00 finish!

since it gets a lot of talk my 2 cents is that contextually, the config file was designed to be edited for values that aren't achievable in-game, namely for the use-case of adjusting window scale/resolution stuff for specific setups -- so you get into muddy territory when manually editing this file constitutes a modded client, since i wouldn't consider unusual window scales to be modded.
it'd be neat if we can find an in-game exploit to break the bounds of the damsel selection since once you're beyond the usual range, the in-game config will correctly adjust and save outside the bounds as well, but for now people are more focused on getting runs than necessarily digging for the specific menu exploit.
i'm sure plenty will disagree, but i think lumping a config file bounding error broadly into a "modded" speedrun umbrella is a bit harsh, especially for a series that very commonly directly modifies save files to achieve a desired game state. hopefully somebody just finds a menu exploit and we can forego the discourse entirely lmao 🐑
IT'S LITERALLY MODDING THE GAME BECAUSE YOU ARE OPENING A FILE AN EDITING A TEXT DOCUMENT YOU CAN'T CALL IT AN UNMODDED VANILLA RUN BECAUSE YOU HAVE EDITED THE GAME EXTERNALLY FROM INSIDE THE MENUS SO IT CAN'T BE DONE ON CONSOLES THEREFORE IT'S NOT VANILLA I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE ARE SO F****ING STUPID WITH THIS S*** IT'S LITERALLY A MODIFIED GAME FILE WHAT THE F*** IT'S RIGHT IN THE WORD MODIFIED IT'S MODDED IT'S A MODDED RUN THIS SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN POSTED I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT'S POSTED THE TITLE IS BAD DELETE THIS VIDEO
Isn't part of the appeal of Spelunky running that you can start a run and theoretically be going for any category. I think it's fair to split this out from the non modified runs. If you call it major glitches or modded. I'm not a member of the community so my opinion means nothing. As long as you guys are having fun with it I don't mind
Modifying a file to get a run most def should be considered separate from the non modded runs
i like how the ship is just ominously following you hiding in blocks
Ah yes, Skip Skip, the skip where you skip every other skip.
lol I was not expecting 3:33
I can't call it a glitch when you need to modify a file to get it
From what I could tell, the game will crash if it tries to load a pet shop. Since there's no "Purchasable OlmecShip" entity, the game crashes.
At first I didn't understand what I was watching, I thought there was something in sunken city itself that was bugged, and that the olmec rocket at the start was just a mod used to get you there faster for practice.
BUT APPARENTLY THAT WAS PART OF THE ACTUAL GAME WHAT
Not sure whether I'd call it part of the game, but that's a technicality
The Olmec ships flying out of the chest at the end of the run is an excellent cherry on top to an insanely goofy run
Been so long since I seen a Spelunky 2 video. It did have a few months of popularity though.
This could also be done in Volcana after getting the bow to get to CO really fast, right?
When the category says "Sunken City", why bother spending time in any other zones?
It would have been really funny if classic guy's ship was a dog
Not much of a glitch nor a valid speed run strat if it uses external modification, then
While watching I was having trouble believing this wasn't a mod. Now having read the description, it makes a lot more sense, but I might argue that this constitutes modding, since you did _modify_ a game file, while outside of the game, in a way that clearly intentionally causes dev-unintended behavior. I know it's not actual game code, but despite being in a config file it's clearly not actually a configuration option placed there for players to select; asset swapping is classified as modding and that's kind of what this is. Most crazy glitches like this I've seen (mostly pointer manips) have in-game setup using alternate save files or runs to get the game into a state like this while _inside,_ using only inputs to the running program to modify the behavior.
None of this is to invalidate your achievement, that was excellent sunken play and you deserve to feel good about sub 2. It's just an argument about run categorization; rather than "Seeded, Glitched" I think it's more accurate to put "Seeded, Modded" which unfortunately takes the punch out of it.
spoiled by xanagear but congrats on 100 happy olmec heads

So what file in the registry do I change ? Something about 255?
modified the config file - then it's not "glitched", it's straight up "cheating" - which still very silly that the game has that feature anyways
Config files exist to be modified, sometimes it's to cumbersome to put everything in the games ui
oh this isn't an in-game thing but external modification, that is still very funny though
Bruh are they even gonna bother patching this time
i imagine they probably patch it for multiplayer and dailies at least, if it's usable there
@@rm_steele I tried it in online with a jetpack and it showed and worked however it appears to just kick you out after a few levels (or I had a connection glitch) it showed everyone else lagging and having the hourglass icon on their names
@@the_gaming_master it causes desync unless the other players set their config to olmec ships
i- um... what?
They've already patched it😭😭😭
holy shit
???????????????????????????????????????????????????
what
funny!
