12 years for 6 innocent lives. Disgusting. The judge should have rejected the plea deal.
Definitely not enough
Well his family got money and his dad is a lawyer so they value his life more than others.
god forbid if those 6 farm workers were ceos
@@kae6195i know what you're getting at but 1st degree and involuntary are WAY different with way different penalties.
Yeah though 12 years isn't enough. Dude needs a lifetime ban from ever getting behind the wheel at least as a adder at least. Never let this happen again
The law decided that the lives of those women were only worth 2 years each... That's pretty shameful.
Should be 12 years per life. At least. How shameful.
The "farm workers" that were hit were more than likely undocumented workers. Which means the reason they never fought the plea deal is because they were too afraid of being deported. Also, they tend to get less than fair treatment since they aren't US citizens, plus this so called "justice" is still more f air than what they would get back in their home countries.

12 years for 6 lives.. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Anything less than life without parole is an insult to the victims and their families.
Absolutely!
Best deal this guy has ever made. Crazy he doesn’t get more years
He's gonna get embedded in prison for 12 years.
I just read article, his daddy is an lawyer....
12 years isn't even what he will serve, they usually serve half or less, he will prob be out in 5 years... less than a year per life...
Involuntary manslaughter is usually 5-6 years per instance. He should have received 30-36 years. 12 years is repulsive and you know he will be out in 6. He will still get to enjoy his 20’s (I’m assuming he’s 18). This is disappointing in every way.
I agree that he needed to be in there longer but all I have to say is Caitlyn Jenner was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. Never saw a day in jail for it. That same year she went on to win woman of the Year. Society and the legal system are so fucked
He won't come out unscathed. If he makes it at all. Someone will Andy Dufraine with the sisters him pretty quick.
The sentence would have been 55 years if he had contested it; by pleading guilty it was drastically reduced as an incentive to do so. By avoiding a lengthy court case, he saved the public lots of money and the families lots of grief. Obviously he would have saved them more by not doing it in the first place, but that's not an option which is possible any longer.
One of the families wanted the charges to be dropped against him entirely. Are you going to fight with them?
Justice for the victims family is not the only reason you people to serve time
In the state of Florida he has to finish at least 85% of his sentence no matter what happens during the 12 years. So he’s going to do about 10 regardless of good behavior. Still I agree, 6 people is crazy. But also the fact that he was a minor during the incident IS a mitigating circumstance.
Remember: poor lives = 2 years each. Meanwhile, rich people will get entire task forces investigating crimes against them and maximize the punishment for the culprit.
This is the same thing. His family is rich.
They paid the families to write letters saying they didn't want him to go to jail.
It's a pretty messed up story, actually.

None of those states are known for their logic.
Didn't realize the penalty for mass murder dropped so low. The Boston Bomber only killed 3 people and got the death penalty.
I bet those three people weren't farmworkers who probably don't have family in this country and the families don't have the money to travel to court proceedings.
I wonder who his family knows to get off so lightly.
Let's not forget the 260 people who were injured, many with life-altering injuries with at least 17 individuals requiring amputations.

Playing Devil's advocate here (I do think 12 years is way too light, but thinking in this person's shoes) here's what they were probably thinking: the guy had to have been 16 or 17 when this happened. This is going to affect him severely for the rest of this life, both when looking for jobs and in the realm of mental health. He'll never be the same and he no longer gets a chance at a normal life. At that age, your brain isn't fully developed. All kids are stupid (though generally not to a degree that they get people killed, this is definitely a heartbreaking situation). So it was likely them trying to extend some bit of kindness to someone who never has and now never will get a healthy adult life.
They do exist. Bet a wife or daughter were the victim. Only white woman want such stupid things cuz “it’s not his fault, it was a freak accident” 🙄
@@Lauren-pl7bi My thought is they were offered a sum of money to look the other way. Farm workers, probably immigrants, and probably not doing well financially would be easy prey for this. True. Only the person causing the crash has time to brace themselves for impact. Innocent people are usually in their relaxed state and a loose body is extremely dangerous from accidents, or in this case, stupidity.
I can't believe you said that 12 years is a hefty sentence. That's laughable😂

It's like he only got 12 years for hitting 1 vehicle instead of accounting for all he lives lost an all of the families that were affected. Since his dad is a lawyer, you would think that the stupid kid would know better, therefore be punished more severely - or at least have the parents questioned about why they are letting their son get away with continuously driving dangerously.
