      The "farm workers" that were hit were more than likely undocumented workers. Which means the reason they never fought the plea deal is because they were too afraid of being deported. Also, they tend to get less than fair treatment since they aren't US citizens, plus this so called "justice" is still more f air than what they would get back in their home countries.

      The sentence would have been 55 years if he had contested it; by pleading guilty it was drastically reduced as an incentive to do so. By avoiding a lengthy court case, he saved the public lots of money and the families lots of grief. Obviously he would have saved them more by not doing it in the first place, but that's not an option which is possible any longer.
      One of the families wanted the charges to be dropped against him entirely. Are you going to fight with them?

      In the state of Florida he has to finish at least 85% of his sentence no matter what happens during the 12 years. So he’s going to do about 10 regardless of good behavior. Still I agree, 6 people is crazy. But also the fact that he was a minor during the incident IS a mitigating circumstance.

      Playing Devil's advocate here (I do think 12 years is way too light, but thinking in this person's shoes) here's what they were probably thinking: the guy had to have been 16 or 17 when this happened. This is going to affect him severely for the rest of this life, both when looking for jobs and in the realm of mental health. He'll never be the same and he no longer gets a chance at a normal life. At that age, your brain isn't fully developed. All kids are stupid (though generally not to a degree that they get people killed, this is definitely a heartbreaking situation). No, you don't. Have you been awake for the last 15 years? No one goes to prison for possession.
      More importantly, you're engaged in the most basic, superficial analysis possible. His intent, motivations, actions, contrition, mental health, progress in custody/out of custody, etc. etc. etc. all come into play for sentencing. Merely looking at the charge, and comparing it (wrongly) to other crimes and other persons, is absurd.

    The message this sends to other goofs, is that you’ll get a slap on the wrist for taking lives, due to your own idiocy. Call me draconian, he should have received a minimum of ten years per life he took. He didn’t just take the lives of six innocent people, he ruined the lives of all their families, which would run into dozens more.

    • @gravyz2cute4u
      @gravyz2cute4u 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Agreed. 12 years for 6 people?? Some people get 12 years for just 1 person. It should be at least 10 years per person. It's like he only got 12 years for hitting 1 vehicle instead of accounting for all he lives lost an all of the families that were affected. Since his dad is a lawyer, you would think that the stupid kid would know better, therefore be punished more severely - or at least have the parents questioned about why they are letting their son get away with continuously driving dangerously.
