Kailah - The word solstice is derived from the Latin sol ("sun") and sistere ("to stand still"), because at the solstices, the Sun's declination appears to "stand still"; that is, the seasonal movement of the Sun's daily path (as seen from Earth) pauses at a northern or southern limit before reversing direction.

Rather let the shadow go back ten steps.” 11 And Isaiah the prophet called to the Lord, and he brought the shadow back ten steps, by which it had gone down on the steps of Ahaz.

It's almost like a ceiling fan when the Earth's polar reversal occurs. The rotation comes to a stop and then begins spinning the opposite direction. Flip the little two-way switch on the side of your ceiling fan when it is running and watch it. The polarity of the ceiling fan has been reversed. The geological evidence that it happens to this planet is indisputable. The Earth stops for about 8 hours and then begin to spin in the opposite direction. The side facing the sun is toast and the other side gets a large dust cloud. Yes, it happens.
While I appreciate the good doctor putting to rest that myth about the NASA computers calculating a missing day, I don’t-don’t want to have a buy a DVD to learn his main idea of how to explain this thorny matter.
In any case don't know if the reading is accurate. But if God wanted to stop earth and keep the elements stable it would be done. The problem is humans can't faithfully comprehend it.
WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR PEOPLE TO ACCEPT THAT GOD INDEED HAS THE POWER TO STOP A ROTATING EARTH? I DON'T FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE. IF IT SAYS THE SUN STOPPED, IT STOPPED, PERIOD. Stop being your own teacher. We shall ask God when we reach heaven, for now, take the word of God as it is, He indeed is A POWERFUL GOD
Amen! And since God created the world, he has unlimited power with it to do as he pleases according to his perfect will. I think some people try to rationalize the Bible based on what they have seen and their experiences. I don’t need science to justify anything. If God said it, that settles it!
but why would a god who loves everyone and created everyone want men to fight and kill each other? why does he want anyone to die in a war. even if he wanted a whole city dead, isn't he the one who created them and can end their life in an instant? why does he have to make a man kill another man?
Interesting and understandable question. I have pondered this myself in my faith. God could end life in an instant, sure. But in every single act God has shown toward sin in the Bible he has involved his people in some way. When dealing with human sin it is a human fight, so that is a reason for humans being called to fight each other in Gods judgement. I say this on a theological basis. In the beginnings of God reaching out to his people (Hebrews) for his message to go out, there was a lot of sinful influence that took the Hebrews away from God and for preservation, those influences need to be wiped out. God takes no pleasure in implementing judgement, but does so as a necessary means for preservation.

Joshua 10, Sun stood still and Moon stopped. A lot of confusion on this part of scripture and really no good explanation. Joshua 10: 11-14 "And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword. Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” 13 So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge Upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. 14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel." Some believe in verses 12 and 13 that God performed a stupendous miracle with Joshua and the Israelite's that God literally stopped the earth from spinning so the sun stood still and the moon stopped. Flat earth take it literally as well that sun and moon stopped in sky not rotating, and that the sun and moon are local to Earth. Some flat earth also believe the earth is Geocentric, meaning the earth is at the center of the solar system not the sun. Other views are God performed a "local miracle. Another view attempts to explain the event as an eclipse that gave the appearance of a long day in which the sun did not set. Alternatively, some combination of an eclipse and refracted light in the atmosphere could have made the day appear longer than normal. God timed the event to miraculously coincide with Joshua’s prayer and moment of need. The main weakness of this view is that an eclipse typically lasts for minutes rather than hours. All these views take verses 12 and 13 with the sun standing still and the moon stopping as literal. Since so many take it literal that is why there is confusion. The Error is taking the text Literally, when in fact the text of verses 12 and 13 with the sun standing still and the moon stopping is a metaphor, figurative language or to say just an expression from the author. Lets look at John 10:7 when words are used in a figure of speech or metaphorically speaking. John 10: 7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly I say to you, I am the door of the sheep" This passage of scripture is NOT to be taken literally because Jesus is not a literal door and His followers are not literal sheep. Jesus referred to Himself as the Good Shepard. John 10 Jesus is speaking a parable to illustrate something, He is emphasizing when He says Truly, truly. The word "Truly" is used twice. Other Bible translations will use "Most assuredly" and "Very truly". The KJV uses "Verily, verily". The point is that there is an emphasize in the scripture as a figure of speech. Looking at Joshua 10 verse 11 "And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large Hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the Hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword."" The proper exogesis and comparison and is in the Context mentioned in Verse 11, the verse mentions "Hailstones" twice. Hailstones obviously come from a Hailstorm. Looking at verses 12B and 13A “Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.” 13 So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, In these passages Sun standing still mentioned twice and the Moon mentioned twice in verses 12 and 13. So in verses 12 and 13 are to be taken as a figure of speech, not literally like so many do. There is an emphasizes on this text. Basically what God did to destroy the Amorites is how the sun stood still and the moon stopped is with the "Hailstorm". What God did is send a 'Hailstorm" on the Amorites on this day. To have a "Hailstorm" God would have darkened the sky or heavens, so to say the clouds of the Hailstorm would have "Eclipsed" or "Blanketed" the Sun and the Moon making it appear to Joshua the author so the both the moon and the sun stopped or are idle mode of NOT giving "Light". Joshua is just giving an illustration. The sun stand still is even mentioned a THIRD time in verse 13 because Joshua takes from the book of Jasher for even more emphasizes.>>>>>"Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day." Some will take this passage that the earth has lost a day, that is not really what happened. God has always used weather as punishment and judgement, just like the flood in Noah's day. God also controls the weather. Jesus is God. Mark 4: 39 "Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. God would have no need in Joshua 10 to make the earth stop spinning, when He has the weather at His disposal to darken the sky and use a Hail storm to take out the enemies and making it appear the the moon stopped and the sun standing still, not doing their normal function of giving light. Genesis 1 :16 "And God made two great lights;the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also." The sun and the moon "Rule" giving a great light and a lesser light, but in Joshua 10: 11-14, the sun stood still and the moon stopped giving "Light" or to say the sun and moon were "Idle" from giving "Light" because the"Hailstorm" was "Ruling", not the sun and moon "Ruling". Joshua succeeded Moses after Moses died. Moses wrote Genesis, so Joshua would have been very familiar with the writings of Moses, so Joshua would have known all about the creation account in Genesis. In summary Joshua gives an earthbound perspective of someone standing on the earth, it does appear that the sun and moon does not move (Sun stood still and Moon stopped) or not giving light with a cloudy, overcast and stormy sky like with this Hailstorm God sent in Joshua 10. We ourselves commonly speak of “sunrise” and “sunset”; it is the way we express ourselves or to say a figure of speech (Metaphorically speaking). Sun stood still and Moon stopped is just an expression. God answered Joshua's prayer and cry for help with a hailstorm to defeat the Amorites. Just for the record the earth is NOT Flat, like some are lead to believe. God allows man to fly in planes and has also allowed man to explore space and the solar system.
@@End_of_Days But it is not a figure of speech. He literally stopped the Sun from moving & the Moon. We all know that the moon orbits the Earth but the problem is that people are deceived that the earth moves around the Sun. No the Sun & the Moon are the same size & they both have the same job essentially which is to move clockwise around the stationary earth & provide light while being time pieces for us. Joshua 10 says "is this not spoken of in the book of Jasher?" Well I have the book of Jasher & it says this " & the Lord hearkened to the voice of Joshua & the Sun stood still in the midst of the Heavens & it stood still 6 & thirty moments ( translator note here that says he translated the Hebrew word used as moments because the Hebrew word used had never been used before in scripture that he had seen so he was unsure what division of time it was so he translated it "moments") & the Moon also stood still & hastened not to go down a whole day. & there was no day like that before it or after it that the Lord hearkened to the voice of a man,for the Lord fought for Israel. All the other planets and stars we've ever seen are round, and there's no reason to indicate that the earth should be any different. Number nine. Time zones. Day and night happen at different times at different places on earth. In fact it's always day somewhere and night somewhere else. Number eight. The Coriolis Effect means freely moving things like cannonballs or hurricane winds are deflected to the right, but only if you're north of the equator. If you're south of the equator, they're deflected left. Number seven. Triangles. If you walk 10,000 kilometers straight along the earth's surface, turn 90 degrees to your right, walk 10,000 kilometers more, turn right again and walk another 10,000 kilometers, you'll be back to where you started, having successfully made a triangle with three 90 degree angles. As any geometry student can tell you, this is impossible on a flat surface. Number six. The sun in general gets lower and lower in the sky as you travel away from the equator, and you can use this to directly measure the earth's curvature. Pick two places a few hundred miles directly north and south of each other, and at noon measure the shadows cast by a vertical meter stick at each location. You can use the shadow lengths to figure out the angle between the sticks, and once you add in how far apart they are you can calculate the earth's curvature. Number five. The stars at night change as you go north or south. For example, Orion is upside down if you're in Australia. Number four. Ferdinand Magellan and many people afterwards circumnavigated the earth. That means he left headed west, continued going west, and came back to where he started still going west. Actually Magellan was dead, but one of his ships led by Juan Sebastian Elcano finished the journey. If you head west and circumnavigate the earth yourself, you'll be able to tell because you will observe one fewer sunrise than everyone who stays at home. Number three. The horizon. Ships on the ocean or tall Chicago buildings viewed over Lake Michigan disappear bottom first, and you can see the sunset twice if you watch it lying down and then quickly stand up. The simple fact is, if the earth were flat, there wouldn't be a horizon beyond which things could disappear. Thank you for confirming to me at last that this dubious 'scientific proof' story I heard over 50 years ago that allegedly confirms the 'day missing in time' scripture is in fact a myth.
Romans 1:20 you are without excuse because of creation itself points to a creator. The scriptures is not a myth, go study biblical archeology, if you care so much about evidence, even though salvation is through faith not by evidence because you can have all the evidence in the world and not believe, your mind is set up no matter how much evidence is brought to you, so you need Faith to be saved. Believe through faith first then the evidence will come Hebrews 11:1

The laws of physics and the universe don't have to bend for it to be a miracle. Physics Is of God and everything exists within it... For the sun and moon to be where Joshua asks them to be it would have to be morning. Joshua asks in the evening so he basically is saying. Keep the sun and moon in the same place, so when morning comes they will be in the same place. And they are. Which in doing so set's in place a bad omen and they win. It's a wonderful explanation. But does that mean that the words of Christ are true except for this day, mentioned in Joshua 10:13? Could Christ have speaking on the "average" of length of time? I personally think the Keil & Delitzsch commentary has a good explanation. " For the Scriptures speak of the things of the visible world as they appear; just as we speak of the sun as rising and setting, although we have no doubt whatever about the revolution of the earth. Moreover, the omnipotence of God might produce such an optical stoppage of the sun, or rather a continuance of the visibility of the sun above the horizon, by celestial phenomena which are altogether unknown to us or to naturalists in general, without interfering with the general laws affecting the revolution of the heavenly bodies. Only we must not attempt, as some have done, to reduce the whole miracle of divine omnipotence to an unusual refraction of the light, or to the continuance of lightning throughout the whole night”

Geological evidence that the Earth reversed its spin one day? It's indisputable? When did this supposedly happen? What is your source?

In any case don't know if the reading is accurate. But if God wanted to stop earth and keep the elements stable it would be done. The problem is humans can't faithfully comprehend it.
Where does it say God set the earth in motion in the begining ?
WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR PEOPLE TO ACCEPT THAT GOD INDEED HAS THE POWER TO STOP A ROTATING EARTH? I DON'T FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE. IF IT SAYS THE SUN STOPPED, IT STOPPED, PERIOD. Stop being your own teacher. We shall ask God when we reach heaven, for now, take the word of God as it is, He indeed is A POWERFUL GOD

but why would a god who loves everyone and created everyone want men to fight and kill each other? why does he want anyone to die in a war. even if he wanted a whole city dead, isn't he the one who created them and can end their life in an instant? why does he have to make a man kill another man?
why are we eager to defend a concept that promoted child murder, genocide, stupid laws, etc? the question is why????
ONE REASON WAS BECAUSE THIS PEOPLE WERE SO EVIL HE NEEDED TO GET RID OF THEM
@@angelicarobles7517 didn't he know that before creating them
Interesting and understandable question.

Sun, stand still over Gibeon;
And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
And the moon stopped,
Till the people had revenge
Upon their enemies.
Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. 14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel."
Some believe in verses 12 and 13 that God performed a stupendous miracle with Joshua and the Israelite's that God literally stopped the earth from spinning so the sun stood still and the moon stopped.
John 10: 7 Then Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly I say to you, I am the door of the sheep"
This passage of scripture is NOT to be taken literally because Jesus is not a literal door and His followers are not literal sheep.
There were more who died from the Hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.""
The proper exogesis and comparison and is in the Context mentioned in Verse 11, the verse mentions "Hailstones" twice. Hailstones obviously come from a Hailstorm.
Looking at verses 12B and 13A
“Sun, stand still over Gibeon;
And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon.”
13 So the sun stood still,
And the moon stopped,
In these passages Sun standing still mentioned twice and the Moon mentioned twice in verses 12 and 13.
Genesis 1 :16
"And God made two great lights;the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also."
The sun and the moon "Rule" giving a great light and a lesser light, but in Joshua 10: 11-14, the sun stood still and the moon stopped giving "Light" or to say the sun and moon were "Idle" from giving "Light" because the"Hailstorm" was "Ruling", not the sun and moon "Ruling".

Number ten.
So from across Lake Michigan, you'd be able to see all of Chicago as well as the Rocky Mountains.
Number two. During a lunar eclipse, the shadow of the earth on the moon is curved.
And number one. We know the earth is round because we have photographic evidence.

It explains the location of these cities.
