I'm getting hooked at these Dick Powell's classic tv. Every single one I have seen is perfect, the theme, actors and of course Dick Powell, what talented man he was, it all come so natural to him. I❤his wit and he is so cute.🥰👏 Thank for posting them.
The thing that blows my mind the most is that cinema was still relatively new back then, and yet they seemed to have really perfected the art of storytelling. And the wit and dialogue from these older movies/shows is unmatched. On the whole, I'm always disappointed with a lot of what is offered these days...things that are watchable but don't wow you or leave a lasting impression, or simply are flawed in certain ways. Ever since discovering these old gems on TH-cam I've been hooked. And it is extremely rare to find any bad ones.
@@zukini8763 I agree 100% Back then they were more perfectionist, they put pride in their work. Today, in comparison, with all the technology the final product is only half as good.
Love, love, love Dick Powell!❤ I have never heard of the Four Star Playhouse. I'm really enjoying it. Excellent actors and excellent storyline. Thank you.so.very much for posting. Blessings.🙏
@PizzaFlix thank you for posting this most enjoyable action-packed drama. It's amazing what good writing, good acting, and good directing can do with 24 minutes.
A little bit of trivia for the other seniors out here...Playing the role of Rita Raymond (as shown in the closing credits) was Ms Frances Bergen....She was of course the wife of famous radio/tv star Edgar Bergen ( of Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy {his impudent puppet boy}..as well as the mom of the gorgeous tv/movie star/model Ms Candace Bergen!..You can see where Candace got her beautiful looks from...
As with Powell's "Richard Diamond" detective radio series, the writing here is superb, even though Blake Edwards of Pink Panther fame wrote the radio programs. Gotta love a glib hero.
This was the fourth of seven episodes featuring Powell's "Willie Dante", written by Richard Carr and directed by William A. Seiter. Dick finally spun it off as its own series in 1960- featuring Howard Duff as "Dante". It lasted one season on NBC.
Looking at the comments I feel like I'm the baby in the room. I don't know much about any of these people. Just what I've heard through the years from my parents. But I really love these black and white movies. Used to watch them on TCM this way I can pick what I want to watch. I love it. ❤
A little more for trivia buffs? This series, as it says above, was created by Blake Edwards. Mr Edwards would also produce Peter Gunn, and Mr Lucky....apparently Edwards had a "thing" about nightclubs(?). And more trivia? Mr Lucky's sidekick was a pre-Wild, Wild, West, Ross Martin.
It sort of had been invented, but it was extremely expensive, and not at all common. A high security military base might have it, but certainly not a place like Dante's. Also, there was no cheap way to record live video then. Even the tv networks complained incessantly about the crude--and expensive--video recording technology in 1956.
@@michaelwertzy9808 , Just something I heard in my youth; I'm sure it came from looking in a horse's mouth...glad your teeth have reached a state of equilibrium😁
I recognized Hamilton Burger's voice before I recognized his face (HamBurger from Perry Mason). At least he has a smile on his face in this flick. He is ALWAYS frowning as DA Ham Burger in Perry Mason. It makes me wonder why ANYONE would try to win a case against Perry. PS, I'm looking for a Perry Mason. So far, no go.
this was a really cool series I wish they'd show some more of them I don't think it went a whole season maybe it did but I remember when I was a little seeing more than one episode start this guy was cool as heck everything he starred in too bad Kim John Wayne and most of the rest of the cast ended up dying because of nuclear testing out there when they were filming the worst movie of John Wayne's life. And we got a knucklehead going to pick a part this comment because he's evidently an English major
Did you know that the actress is Frances Bergen mother of Candice? I thought it was Candice, but she was only 10 years old in 1956, so I looked it up! Good eye I've got!
in 1411 they said they should decide there's no handgun there's no holes in the wall so how does Dante prove that it happened. Well I don't know I might be a rocket scientist would have thought like this but why not check his hand for gunpowder think that might help
Siegfried von Vegesack well moron that changes the whole story doesn't it picking apart something that you obviously were able to figure out. What a f****** moron
I beg to differ. I see a resemblance, but not a striking one, and I don’t think that I would have ever known that the two were related if I didn’t already know that they were.
Do you reckon that awful wife set it all up so she has an insurance policy on her poor drunk husband? Gambling...what a weird waste of money! I've never gotten into it at all but my Dad has blown a small fortune and left me...his daughter homeless! Holding out his hand to me for MONEY when he made $100k a year! My inheritance? I'm not holding my breath...
This channel is simply awesome

2nd movie with Powell as Dante, the card dealer. Great old movies with classic one-liners. Powell as as suave as ever.

I love Monte and Dante's relationship. I wish I had a friend like that.
Similar to the characters he played in the radio shows "Richard Diamond, Private Detective" and "Rogue's Gallery".
Clem Joke you are so right! I like him in those too.
This Chanel rocks
Monte had roles on the Superman tv series, Mr. Raymond appeared several times on The Three Stooges.
Guess a pot of coffee makes you feel, embomed lol funny
Those really were "the good old days"!

Here's a little more trivia. This was a pilot for _Dante_ starring Howard Duff as Willie Dante - a short-lived 1960 TV show.
Wonderful information. Thank bv you
Dick Powell never made a bad episode or movie!!!
Thanks!
If Dante had video security he could make a case against the woman, her "husband", his employees. But video security hadn't been invented yet.
It sort of had been invented, but it was extremely expensive, and not at all common. A high security military base might have it, but certainly not a place like Dante's. Also, there was no cheap way to record live video then. Even the tv networks complained incessantly about the crude--and expensive--video recording technology in 1956.
I like this Dante. He gives Humphrey Bogart (another one I dig) a run for his money in snappy wise-cracks and cynical comebacks.
My Miami vacations always bring extraordinary good luck! She should try my system. 😍
Love the ending 🤣🤣🤣
Awesome 25 minutes.
$1.10 for a pot of coffee. Those were the days!
Dick Powell all day long! Sprinkle in a little Maytag repair man now and then! Murder my sweet and cry danger are two of my favorites.
Powell was a little long in the tooth when he did this, but still pulled it off, old hoofer that he was...
I "turned" 64 this year but I can't see my teeth getting any longer, the ones I still have! LOL!
