Silent Hill 2 got it's first update adding DLSS and FSR 3 Frame Generation. Other highlights include performance improvements on PC and we put it all to the test in this video by comparing the previous version with the patched version. @@felixblue4525 Thank you. It can depend. FSR FG can sometimes generate more frames than DLSS FG and it can generate even more if you had an AMD GPU. Problem is you have to use FSR upscaling and that can depend on the implementation. In Silent Hill 2 FSR had quite a bit of flicker so DLSS was noticeably superior BUT they have updated to FSR 3.1.1 with this update and I will be taking a look at it on my next video. Not sure if its improved over the previous version.

It's better but there still are some stutters as you can see in the video and theres also some areas indoors that can be unusually heavy still but it is a noticeable improvement over the release version.

Glad to see they improved on it but I'm still skeptical, the footage from indoors still looks unstable and tbh I don't know how big this studio is but either way when you ask 70$ for a remake it better run smooth. My buddy finished it and after asking him he said it persists throughout the whole game and gets even worse in some areas. From the little I played I gotta give it to them though for the amazing voice acting and atmosphere/combat, it feels fresh yet retains the original horror aesthetic and improves on it . Except the acting, don't know if you played the original but the acting was pretty... well it wasn't too pretty lol. So it's good to see they changed that. I'll hold out till the next patch and see if they improve the indoors performance. Also thanks man, you put a lot of work into this one, really helped me out.
What difference does it make that it's a remake? Whether or not it's acceptable to have performance issues like this has nothing to do with the fact that it's a remake.
Frame generation is cool and does work without any noticeable latency (due to the devs automatically enabling nVidia reflex), but there's also artifacts around Jame's body when moving the camera really fast. If they can fix that it'll be worth using.
Nice patch, gave me a good 20-30 extra fps with the same settings as before on my RX6800xt. Stills stutters for me here and there, but it's way smoother overall. Also cutscenes are suddenly 60fps! Just wish the update came out before I was almost done with my first playthrough hah
I have a ghosting when I opened dlss frame generation. I'm playing on a 60 hz TV. There is no ghosting when frame gen is off. I'm playing with a 4060 Ti with Ray tracing off and DLSS balance between 50-55 fps. Frame gen increases performance a lot. It even gives 60 fps with Ray tracing but there is ghosting. I don't understand if it's ghosting or vsynch breaking.
Great to see we're getting patches to improve performance and such. Haven't bought the game yet largely due to the poor performance, but also cause I'm tight on money and waiting for a sale. So, here's my question like that's great that's it is fixed due to "skybox generation" but wouldn't a play test of this prior to release and your own QA team point this stuff out so that ya'know it doesn't get released like that? Like what's the excuse? The micro-stuttering was not something that was hard to see. There is like a huge issue of dishonesty here, even in the community and all those positive reviews that flat out would say that this problem didn't exist.

Yeah I agree. I stopped playing it shortly after I got to the other side apartment, went through the H door waiting to see what would happen with patches.
This is a solved issue, this is always a result of plug and play development and not taking the time to properly optimize the game, which includes managing when and how data is loaded. Instead of just leaving the engine to do it all with everything just left at default values. Plenty of big and small games use unreal engine without having stutter issues. Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 are some of the best pc releases ever, they use unreal engine and have no stutters, Nobody wants to die is a smaller studio using unreal engine, pushing the visuals hard and no stutter also (and there are many more).
I'll be doing a separate video with my 7900XTX looking at FSR 3.1.1 and FG but yeah performance should be better on PC since the stutters were coding related. They have added additional settings to improve AMD performance too so yeah overall this update benefits any PC hardware including the Steam Deck
Good stuff, but I feel you are going a little soft on it. I still couldn't play it like that, immersion breaking every time it hitches, which is still quite often. Good they bothered making an improvement but still horrible. Yet another game only really playable on console now the frame limiter has been fixed there. Not worth buying on PC until they fix it properly in my opinion.
Had a bunch of footage I'd captured of the problematic areas and I wanted to compare the two. Saw an improvement, clearly you can see there are still performance issues. Its an improvement not a fix. Indoor areas still have some issues but will be doing a follow up video focusing on AMD gpu and will talk more about it.
Resident Evil 4 Remake runs on 4090 at stable 120 FPS in native 4k, doesn't even need DLSS. This is an engine not these latest abominations that require DLSS and frame gen.
Well, thanks to the Unreal engine most devs don't know how to use properly is the main issue. Came up in a discussion on Digital Foundry the other day as well.
The RE engine is the goat. A shame the Fox Engine is not being utilize by Konami. If they engine have gotten updates through the years after Kojima left it would have been far better than this piece of crap.
Dlss frame generation is completely broken and causes graphical bugs. Not sure why you didn't mention that. Really bad ghosting and flickering on hair and buggy image quality on stuff like the chain linked fence at start of game blocking tunnel.
Wow what an improvement. but still sh*t at the same time lmao. capping the framerate usually masks the perf dips, but not in this game. 100 to 20s is horrendous, 100 to 50s still is, but at least capping it to 60 (then dips to 50s) is not that bad i guess.
Because the frametimes improve over time if there are no more stutters. It depends on the length of gameplay. If you go through a stutter section but than it becomes smooth the 1% will improve
next time include the CPU useage in the video u keep mentioning the Cpu useage in the video but u never incuded it so i cant see the CPU useage numbers >.> that box on the video only tells us about ur graphics card and how much ram its useing and Frame-rates
It's there lol, it's how I'm reading it. It's on the 7800X 3D row. The fourth row counting from the top. The first number is CPU usage in %. The second number is temperature and third power consumption.
its a good start- 1-2 more patches for frametimespikes and some fixes the community asks for all the time. (cube fix, cutscene unlock, vibration fix etc) and the game could actually end up in a good recommendable state. good test and comparison btw
Sorry but the imagequality of this remake is still garbage. The dark ghosting around James is still present when the camera moves. Less stuttering? yes, less - but still far away from acceptible. But it is UE5, it will never get fixed. Glad I refunded it. Rather play the enhaced edition again. Great Video though, thx!
On your computer you mean? Looks great on mine, only issue is in the menu if you cycle through the settings theres garbling but while playing the only visible flicker is the denoising in the game which is there no matter what you do. Now my footage my show a bit of ghosting because its recording at 60 FPS with FG on. While playing and getting 100+ FPS it looks really fluid.

In this game it does because there's can be quite a bit of flicker due to the denoising that DLSS helps make more stable. It was in reference to this game not every game it's implemented in. If you patch in DLSS Ray Reconstruction it takes it to another level as far as the noise.
@@vampiszon6620 Yeah, DLSS isnt better than native in all games and sometimes it can do some aspects of the image better and others not. Like reconstructing finer detail DLSS does great but can sometimes make the image softer depending on the game and implementation.

All you had to do was cap it using a 3rd party software.
@@wtfskilz i cap everything using rtss
Great, now that I just finished the game...
Optiscaler frame gen mod is much much much better than the game's official implementation smh
its decent but they still need to optimize this game more
Yes, especially some indoor areas still have stutters
This is a solved issue, this is always a result of plug and play development and not taking the time to properly optimize the game, which includes managing when and how data is loaded. Instead of just leaving the engine to do it all with everything just left at default values. Plenty of big and small games use unreal engine without having stutter issues. Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 are some of the best pc releases ever, they use unreal engine and have no stutters, Nobody wants to die is a smaller studio using unreal engine, pushing the visuals hard and no stutter also (and there are many more).
I read that the update broke the labyrinth for the ps5?
Only on PS5 or Pc too? I literally last left off at Labryinth lol.
@@RedShogun13 pc too, cube does not update after finishing rotten area, preventing access to desolate area
@@DUSKPIT Fuuuuuu. Guess I should hold off on updating then.
rip people who update already
Perf improved also on AMD gpus?
I'll be doing a separate video with my 7900XTX looking at FSR 3.1.1 and FG but yeah performance should be better on PC since the stutters were coding related.
They have added additional settings to improve AMD performance too so yeah overall this update benefits any PC hardware including the Steam Deck
Frame generation makes frame time graph look worse though. that'd bother me too much
Bro I test silent Hill 2 in rtx 4060 frame gen and in cutscene aré ghosting how can fixed ?
How do i delete this patch file? I have a bug in the rotating cube puzzle and i can't get to the desolate area.
You can't roll back to previous versions. Not officially anyway from what I know
Good stuff, but I feel you are going a little soft on it.
Instead of DLSS Frame Gen might want to try Lossless Scaling
Patch working great and too many steps forward 👏
Resident Evil 4 Remake runs on 4090 at stable 120 FPS in native 4k, doesn't even need DLSS. This is an engine not these latest abominations that require DLSS and frame gen.
I hate that a lot of unreal engine 5 games rely on those technologies, Wukong is a prime example
UE5 is not very optimized sadly
@@mnemonic8757 Tell that to Dragon's Dogma 2
Well, thanks to the Unreal engine most devs don't know how to use properly is the main issue. Came up in a discussion on Digital Foundry the other day as well.
The RE engine is the goat. A shame the Fox Engine is not being utilize by Konami. If they engine have gotten updates through the years after Kojima left it would have been far better than this piece of crap.
12:20 - still massive stuttering. Oh....
anyone else stuck after rotten labyrinth? :(
On ps5 I feel like the cutscenes got worse. They really are going for that cinematic style lol
Still runs like shit. And your video got many things wrong, guess it’s the price we pay for people putting videos out so fast to monetize on them.
Has AMD performance improved?
Yes it should have. The stuters in the game happened on both Nvidia and AMD it was a coding thing. Will be doing an AMD focused video later today
Dlss frame generation is completely broken and causes graphical bugs. Not sure why you didn't mention that. Really bad ghosting and flickering on hair and buggy image quality on stuff like the chain linked fence at start of game blocking tunnel.
Still no support for cloud saves? Bummer
No but you can transfer your saves to another machine. Its what Ive been doing.
Wow what an improvement. but still sh*t at the same time lmao. capping the framerate usually masks the perf dips, but not in this game. 100 to 20s is horrendous, 100 to 50s still is, but at least capping it to 60 (then dips to 50s) is not that bad i guess.
It does fix it. You can't cap with the built in settings. Got to use 3rd party like Riva Tuner.
@@wtfskilzyeah that's ridiculous that in game cap does not work...
why does your 1 % low increase?
Because the frametimes improve over time if there are no more stutters. It depends on the length of gameplay. If you go through a stutter section but than it becomes smooth the 1% will improve
@@TerraWare but it shouldnt. it has to save the lowest fps and lock there.
Second update. Get it right
I still get almost same stuttering...
I don't need more frames. Cap it to 60 anyways. I need the stuttering to be solved with epic and RT on. My rig can handle that but the game won't.
And by the way also got it on PS5 and there I had a much better experience on it than PC.
next time include the CPU useage in the video u keep mentioning the Cpu useage in the video but u never incuded it so i cant see the CPU useage numbers >.> that box on the video only tells us about ur graphics card and how much ram its useing and Frame-rates
It's there lol, it's how I'm reading it. It's on the 7800X 3D row. The fourth row counting from the top. The first number is CPU usage in %. The second number is temperature and third power consumption.
I'm on ps5 and stutters
I'm sure the 5090 will "fix" the stutters.
its a good start- 1-2 more patches for frametimespikes and some fixes the community asks for all the time. (cube fix, cutscene unlock, vibration fix etc) and the game could actually end up in a good recommendable state. good test and comparison btw
Runs smooth but the cutscenes are bad.
Did ps5 get a patch too
@@Major07able it got one but I don't see any improvement
I hope they patch the camera flickering
Sorry but the imagequality of this remake is still garbage. The dark ghosting around James is still present when the camera moves. Less stuttering? yes, less - but still far away from acceptible. But it is UE5, it will never get fixed. Glad I refunded it. Rather play the enhaced edition again.
Great Video though, thx!
There’s still stuttering on ps5
There's still stuttering on PC too indoors especially. Things have improved but not where they should be.
Nvidia FG has flickers everywhere
On your computer you mean? Looks great on mine, only issue is in the menu if you cycle through the settings theres garbling but while playing the only visible flicker is the denoising in the game which is there no matter what you do.
Now my footage my show a bit of ghosting because its recording at 60 FPS with FG on. While playing and getting 100+ FPS it looks really fluid.
@@TerraWare I see in all your videos with FG nvidia active Flickering noticeable, if you don't see it bro... there is something wrong with your view, and about the artifacts when going through the menus it still happens and the same thing appears when you move with FG active in-game, that never happens with FG Off
@@JairoPL29 literally no flickering, stop trolling.
@@ppevader-u2t these blind people... there are many people complaining on steam about this and you say that I'm a troll... they had to be blind... On the other hand, the stuttering was not completely fixed, you are going to tell me that the game is still fine and it never had stutter either... You'd better play on your cell phone because there you almost never see a difference.
Its Bloober Team. It will stutter for the rest of your life. They are not able to make a stutter free game. All their games are stuttering and they never fixed anything.
Yeah apparently this has broken the game towards the end. Maybe wait before doing video's 😂
they never fix this engine
They better if all these studios are going to be using it.
Another Bloober W
This guy says DLSS improves over native image quality. What a joke. Anyone can be a TH-camr these days. No qualification or knowledge required.
DLSS does improve image over native without AA in many cases.
In this game it does because there's can be quite a bit of flicker due to the denoising that DLSS helps make more stable. It was in reference to this game not every game it's implemented in. If you patch in DLSS Ray Reconstruction it takes it to another level as far as the noise.
But it's true in some games that has poor aa implementation. Even DF says so.
@@vampiszon6620 Yeah, DLSS isnt better than native in all games and sometimes it can do some aspects of the image better and others not. Like reconstructing finer detail DLSS does great but can sometimes make the image softer depending on the game and implementation.
Your comment is a whole joke lol
I have said it so many times pc hardware is not the problem its the engine, this UE5 is a mess i can't remember 1 UE5 game that was launched on pc without stutters maybe robocop rogue city? But man UE5 was supposed to be the savior and they botched it, i am scared for stalker on pc because it is again UE5 game
Why the hell people don't say anything against many 69 dollars games with stutters ?!!
@@webolabs people don't realise that console and pc hardware is completely different, "if it runs well on console then why its not running well on pcs?
