I think the "So you wanna join Random Encounters" bits are one of two things.
a: hinting they're looking for people
b: (And probably the most likely of the two and honestly "a" was just a dream and this is probably the only option here) So many people ask how to join that they got to show them why their job isn't always fun and games. It's hard work!

David hit his back and I felt that pain. I've also had the misfortune of hitting my back on walls/corners of walls, and holy crap does it hurt.
First Katie almost hitting him with a cleaver while tripping over him , now hitting his back against the wall, I feel so bad for David.
